Not to say you guys are over-blowing his ability but how does a guy who's 6 foot 5 inches with more athleticism than Christian French have a 3 star at best rating?

Not a lot of football in Canada. As you can see here, Canada only gets excited for the annual Roughriders vs. Roughriders game.

I think this kid is the real deal. Sign him up, figure out where he plays later.

Isn't this kind of flexibility what you want in some of your players when you are bringing in a small class?

Apt comparison. Also reminds me of Christian French quite a bit. He seems a more natural athlete on the field though than French was.

Good pull, always wanted that kid at ND. He fancied himself a TE but I also thought his best position was OLB/DE.

He's Canadian, eh.

This. Wasn't even rated at all until he got offers from Oregon, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

He's not as straight line fast as French, either. But he's a more fluid athlete... and he doesn't have stone hands. Took French a couple position switches and 3 full years of development to start making any impact at Oregon. Now heading into his 5th year he looks like he'll be an elite player at OLB. Moral of the story with Barr, French, etc. is that if you've got a guy who is 6'4"+ 240+ and very athletic you need to stick them at OLB and teach them how to rush the passer.

Yeah, which is how Oregon landed him... then after a year of playing scout team TE they moved him to defense. Him and Barr have so many parallels about wanting to play offense but being much better fits for D.

Now, obviously, I have no idea what level of competition that is. But the way he cuts on film is absurd for someone who is 6'4"+. Imagine him adding 20-30 pounds and playing DE or OLB with that kind of lateral quickness.

His WR film ain't shabby either... and he already earned an Opening invite, where I'm guessing he'll blow up into a national recruit. The proximity of both Washington and Oregon scares me a little bit and I'm praying we land him because I think he's a difference maker.

Just an FYI there is a lot of football in Canada, its an untapped resource because I believe coaches don't want to make it up here and the kids can't afford to hit camps down south. In my city alone we play football spring/summer and fall with house leagues and travel teams.

Question... do you know if they play Canadian rules football? Or American? I just realized that the highlights appear to be 10v10.

You guys may jump me for this but I truly believe this is a Jaylon Smith level of prospect at OLB. Now, Jaylon gets the edge because of his level of understanding of playing the position and reps he'd taken there before. I'm speaking more to what this could become.

We play Canadian rules, but with 4 downs. 12 a side, kicks through the end zone are 1 point etc etc.

I played football up here in Canada

We played with Canadian rules... but that really doesnt make as much of a diference as you would think.

Loy's hearing there is a strong possibility that he's Irish by the end of the weekend. I'm not going to get my hopes up yet but if that happens I will freak out.

His speed, forward and lateral is insane.

And he can bring it, can't he?

Kind of the reason I want him on D. That type of agility or mobility for his size is freaky.

Now if the coaching staff has their stuff together, they will give him a try at the position he wants most, first. Then they will tell him both ways is not off the table. Then after he attends, they will council him to the quickest way to see the field.*

* Based upon needs and skills as they see it.

I know what you mean but at the same time I don't want to move someone who's a natural pass catcher to defense either.

IMO that's the difference between him and the likes of French and Barr who were more athletes than pass catcher's or natural RBs.

As of now I'm not sure I think he's a natural WR. I'm fact, I would side against that. He's very raw in his route running and concepts as a WR. It does appear that he has good ball skills but I haven't seen enough to coninve me that he needs to stay there. The deciding factor for me would be his desire to play there. If he doesn't have a desire to hit and tackle then find the best offensive position for him. However, Bars thought he wanted to score TD's as well, until he realized he could make millions tackling.

Per Loy he didn't commit but it sounds like it was close. We are the leaders with confidence. He wants to think it over with family but ND is really looking good with him and his family. Apparently mom is a huge ND fan, education is a big deal to the family.

Nice. Really like his potential on defense.
