I think we lost Mack do to the fact of the depth Chart. I honestly think Mack could come in and play right away at OSU, ND not so much. He will have a tough time seeing time his freshman year even his sophmore year. Roberston I think we lost on due to the fact A. Gilmore was't here long and didn't get a change to establish a long relationship with him and B. schools scared him with the school work he would have to do at ND>
1. Mack would have played ND as a freshman and would be fighting to start his sophomore year more than likely. I don't think people understand how advanced he is as a WR. I know it was one-on-one, but he absolutely shreaded Roderick Campbell and Damar Hamlin in Columbus. You had some great WR prospects in Columbus and Mack stood head and shoulders above them all. Then you realize Mack hasn't done anything competitively since his season ended and that was his first time doing anything that level in 7 months.
2. Gilmore was at ND for almost 4 months. Plenty of time. Elston was his recruiter and from what I have heard from those around Robertson, he didn't exactly give him a ton to think about when it came to MSU/ND. The whole academic thing is overrated. Robertson knows that he could succeed at Notre Dame, or he wouldn't have taken so many damn visits there.
Like I have stated before, these commits come down to relationships. Mack had better relationships with the OSU players and Robertson had better relationships with the MSU players. Same goes for Kraemer and Eichenberg at ND.
Kids want to get a good degree, want to win games and titles, but they aren't going to go to a place they don't have good relationships with the players and that isn't going to change. Why do you think it's so hard for Midwest schools to consistently get top kids from the South? They want to play with their friends and kids like themselves.
I am not saying the depth chart and relationships with the different staffs didnt hurt ND, but that is not the primary reason ND lost those two.
