It actually was. The night of the Invasion before this decision was made BGI talked about this. The staff believes they can get DE's by the end of this. He was already a UNC lean but this isn't ND's side making this up, this was said before the decision.

How does that suggest ND told him no thanks? Could it be that he held off a commitment to UNC until he gave ND a shot, gave ND that shot and it wasn't for him and also finalizing his decision?

If ND is telling him "not right now" could the UNC commitment be to hold a spot? We see recruits do it all the time for USC, Alabama, FSU, etc...why can't a recruit do the same for us? Commit to UNC so he has a spot and then, if we reach out to him later in the year with room he decommits and switched to ND.
