Don't see PHAROAH pulling it off, but it would be good for the sport. It's the longest of the three races and the most demanding. Makes what Secretariat did so amazing. Not only won the Triple Crown, but ran way from the field while setting records in all three races.

Frankly, I don't either. I agree that it would be great for the sport, but we've seen this story before: e.g. Silver Charm, Real Quiet, Charismatic, War Emblem, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Big Brown, I'll Have Another, California Chrome... I was at last year's Belmont, and the deflation at the track when California Chrome failed to pull it off was palpable.

Heard a racing expert on the radio today. He mentioned that the biggest reason horses fail to win the Triple Crown after winning the first two races is stamina. Thoroughbred's aren't built to race three races that close together. They need longer recovery times. That's one reason you see horse's run in the Derby, skip the Preakness and run at Belmont. They've had enough time to recover while the winner of the first two legs hasn't. There are two or three from the Derby in the Belmont.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse to death (no pun intended, or was it?), but that makes Secretariat's accomplishment so amazing.

The Field is kind of weak so American P likely has the best shot any horse has had recently.

Secretariats 2.24 for a mile and half was not just a stakes record, not just a track record , but a world record for a mile and a half that may never be matched ! He was the King!

Confused as to why I can't bet on this thing. :(

Nevermind, didn't think it was 6:30 yet. Dang it.

Go to Youtube and watch Secretariat's runs in the 3 races. That horse was a freak, a beast, an absolute force of nature. Just no quit in him and he keeps accelerating even after victory is locked up. I'm not even much of a horse racing fan, but Secretariat just awes me.

UNBELIEVABLE. Congratulations to American Pharaoh.

Wasn't sure I'd ever see one in my lifetime. If I didn't just move to Cincinnati I would have been there :/

Secretariat, the only horse to run faster than American Pharoah at Belmont.

Was that really the 2nd fastest Belmont time? AP looked like he was out for a stroll and it was an easy race for him. I didn't realize it was that fast.

What makes it even cooler is that Bob Baffert is a really nice man.

I was wrong, and happy to be so. Only wish it could have happened last year when I was in attendance.

Wow. I was going by what the announcer said when they showed the lady that owned Secretariat. Looks like he mis-spoke...or I mis-heard. Thanks for putting it right.

I just read on ESPN that it was the 6th fastest Belmont time ever and the 2nd fastest by a Triple Crown winner (behind only Secretariat's record time). Easy for anyone to have misspoken or misheard that.

Late to the party, but happy that I was wrong. It's good for the sport, but shows you just how difficult it is to win the TC. AP looked like he wasn't even pressing the entire race.
