FSU is the CB favorite but Josh Newberg says Gaines is not being actively recruited by FSU. FSU also won't take a commitment from anymore until they believe Malik Henry is off the board.

I would assume if Gaines commits to Auburn it helps us with Pass.

Gaines was not a take for Auburn as of a week ago but he just camped there so maybe he got the green light? We'll see.

Certainly don't expect Gaines to be Irish. He said he will announce in later this week.

I was thinking with UGA UA getting their QB's it should certainly help. I am very anxious to see who our QB in 16' is going to be. Gotta get a good one.

I haven't watched any of the tape yet but it sounds like he's growing as a passer over the camp circuit. Was rated by rivals as the 7th best QB performance of their RCS camp circuit. If he's developing as a passer, he could be a deadly weapon because he sure is a good athlete.

Interesting since Hunter Johnson said he was told we were passing on QB this year (or at least an article said he was told that). I was kind of worried when I read that so it would be awesome if we were in play with this guy.

Irish have recently gained some traction with his recruitment. -

"Florida and Notre Dame are probably the only schools that I'm looking at right now," Gaines said. "I have been talking to [Irish assistant coach] Autry Denson. We talk almost everyday, he messages me on Twitter … He's the only coach that's like that."

"I'm trying to find a home — soon — before the season starts, I'm trying to commit, so I'm really trying to see what fits me best and how the campus is, the coaching staff and the schemes and all that," Gaines. "I just want to get committed before the season starts so I can build a relationship with the coaching staff wherever I go."

With Zaire, Kizer and Wimbush in the fold and a more traditional, 5-star top target QB in 2017, why not go after Gaines in this class? Could have major upside, and I don't see a downside given his athleticism and size. Also, I would hope someone as highly rated as Hunter Johnson would feel confident enough to come in and compete anyway.
