Per Josh Hemboldt at Rivals, his mother is still considering visiting this weekend even though Auston will be at a 7 on 7 tourney.

yeah I think so too. I think Malik's was a bit more extreme in that his parents wanted him to get as far away from the state of Michigan as possible.

I really don't see any comparisons to Malik McDowell's other than MSU and ND recruited both. McDowell never had ND on his radar and Robertson does.

i think the comparison is more to do with the the fact that both mcdowell and robertson's parents/moms seemed to have differing opinions on where he should go to school compared to their sons

I don't think Robertson's mom differs at all. She has just never been to Notre Dame. Everytime he has been up to Notre Dame has been with AWP or Mack. Mack and Robertson drove up Friday for Junior Day to spend time with Jaylon and then Mack's mother drove up by herself on Saturday.

I think if Robertson's mom makes a trip by herself, it will solely be to see what Notre Dame has to offer so they can make an educated decision. I think its a good sign that a parent is more than willing to do that to make sure her son is making the right choice and having all the facts.

In McDowell's case, the family had the facts and probably too many facts about MSU and it hurt the Spartans in that sense.

Especially when she has already been up by herself. I'm surprised we didn't hear more from that visit and how it went. Not every day that the mother of a blue chip recruit goes out of her way to drive up by herself to check us out.

I think regardless of who he chooses this is good news. We have left enough of an impression that he wants to come with mom. I know it sucks to be the runner up over and over again but to be thinking about us again is awesome.

We're also hearing that Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers four-star wideout Austin Mack, who announces his decision in two weeks with Robertson, is considering a visit to Notre Dame next week, as well.

This is coming from his mother but Steve Lorenz at the UM site is saying that he's visiting them on Saturday. Obviously you all know my feeling of him but it is worth keeping an eye on whether this visit actually occurs or not. I personally think this is really semantics at this point and Auston will not be choosing ND as of now. Maybe we can get some traction later on in the cycle but at this time, I'm not sure it matters.

Don't want to get too far off topic but its fairly well known that Lorenz is crootin for UM while on the job. It was extremely evident last year with Shaun Crawford, almost to an embarrassing level of harassment towards the kid and his family.

I'm in the camp that doesn't believe we've handled Midwest recruiting the best so far this cycle but I'm not sure it would have mattered with some of these kids Auston, Austin, and King being a few examples. Maybe the staff realized that early and thats the reason for more emphasis on national focus but this just hasn't seemed like a fit for quite awhile.

The worst part about this is Auston is getting a lot better as he progresses. You can tell from Spring camp footage thats he's been working on his craft and its paying off. While we've continued to slide down his list, he's continued to move up mine.

Those two programs are winning big and placing more of a balanced approach on football/academics. I'm afraid this trend may continue.
