Who would you rather have as your LT? Martin or Stanley?

The scary thing is that it seems like we should have another NFL caliber player to replace Stanley when he leaves

That'd be crazy. Who's the last ND #1 overall draft pick?

I re-watched that game looking specifically at Stanley, I'm fairly certain Mario Edwards didn't make a single play in that game. Complete non-factor.

When Stanley goes in the 1st round that will be testament to Harry Hiestand's ability to develop players. Have a look at Stanley's original rankings from the first page of this thread:

RANKINGS
Rivals: , #19 OT, Rating 5.8, National #170
Scout: , #14 OT,
ESPN: , #39 OT, Grade 79
247: , #14 OT, National #121

Stanley wasn't even considered a top-ten tackle in his class. His highest rating was #14 on Scout and 247. ESPN had him at the #39 tackle in the class. Now, he is widely regarded as the best or one of the best tackles in the country going into the 2015 season.

Hiestand had the message, and Stanley bought into it. Is it any wonder top offensive linemen want to come to Notre Dame? Top-level football + superior education + Harry Hiestand's coaching = NFL Lineman

From the moment I first watched Stanley's tape I knew he would be a first round pick. He was severely underrated coming out of high school. Not sure if that's because he came from a non football state or what.

I was a believer when he became the backup tackle as a true freshman on a team with some decent, experienced O-lineman.

Seems like it's going to be between him and Tunsil for the first tackle off the board, both should be top 10 picks. Tunsil is a freak of nature and a 5 star recruit, but give me Stanley over Tunsil every day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

I thought McGlinchey would be the sure-fire 1st rounder in recruiting, and I still think he has that kind of ceiling. That said, Stanley is a crem de la crem talent, and I hope he goes top 8.

If ND has the type of year we think they will and Big McG plays as well as he's capable of, ND could have a Joeckel / Matthews - A&M situation next year in South Bend. You can't teach McG's size.

Polynesian Football Hall of Fame

Honolulu, HI (July 28, 2015) – The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced today the 2015 Watch List for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award. This award is presented annually to the most outstanding Polynesian college football player that epitomizes great ability and integrity. Former University of Oregon, and current Tennessee Titans Quarterback, Marcus Mariota was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Award in 2014.

The winner of the 2015 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year will be announced on December 8, 2015. Five finalists will be unveiled on November 19. The formal presentation will be held at the Celebration Dinner during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend on January 29, 2016.

“There are nearly 300 players of Polynesian Ancestry in Division I college football today,” said Jesse Sapolu, Chairman and Co-Founder. “This award showcases their incredible talents and gives us a platform to celebrate their success as student-athletes.”

The Watch List candidates have been selected based on past performance and future potential. Additions to the list may be made as the 2015 season progresses. The finalists and the winner will be chosen by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which includes Coaches Dick Tomey (Chairman), LaVell Edwards, Ron McBride, and Dick Vermeil, past NFLPA President and Inaugural Inductee Kevin Mawae, ESPN Sportscaster Neil Everett, NFL player personnel legend Gil Brandt and Honolulu Sportscaster Robert Kekaula.

Ronnie made the 2015 watchlist, I had no idea he was Polynesian..

Rumor I heard is Ronnie was voted as a captain but turned it down due to an undisclosed reason and apologized to the team. Anyone else hear of this and have more detail? Very shocked he isn't a captain?

That would be weird, but Ronnie just now coming into his own as a great player. I understand that he was a strong voice in the bowl game last year, but perhaps he just didn't want the pressure of being a captain for this his last year. Besides, two captains on the O line is a bit much.

I actually came to this thread to see if there was any info on why he wasn't voted captain. VERY surprised about this. Would love to know why he wasn't named and if there's any truth to the above.

Can't argue with the choices really. Too many leaders to name them all captain is what Kelly was saying. I have no doubt Ronnie will still be a leader for this team.

Todd McShay and Scout Inc. rated Stanley as the 2nd best OL draft prospect, behind Tunsil of course. I'm bias and think Stanley is the better player of course.
