There are just always the "little" things with BK. Throwing the game away against Tulsa, the 2-pt conversion and horrid clock management against Northwestern, having to call one play on D the whole Navy game because Schmidt got hurt, 5 years of no punt returns, clearly not putting enough of an emphasis on Special Teams which led to your Holder and backup Holder blowing games for you.....just small things that pop up with BK that you don't see with Saban/Meyer.

To me, the bolded is the most mind-bottling thing to me in BK's time at ND, at least in terms of the return game. His special teams units, but particularly the return teams, were spectacular at UC.

Perhaps he simply had players at UC that better understood how to make things happen in the return game, but there has been no shortage of athletes at ND, so I don't think that's it.

Maybe Bryant's near-TD against Louisville will be a spark that carries over to next season.

I hope so. He seems to play it safe every on Special Teams whenever he gets burned. He gave up the Fake FG to MSU and we haven't tried to block a FG since. We are always in Safe. We made the effort to boost the Punt Return game this past season, but went back to Punt Safe after the Syracuse fake punt.

I'm forgetting what led to Goodman/Davonte years of fair catches....did we muff some in 2010 and early 2011?

It's just annoying that he seems content to play it very safe on special teams and we usuallly end up losing the special teams battle every week.

I honestly have no idea why the punt return unit went to "safe" right away in 2010. It may have been due to depth issues, and lack of bodies to go all-out on special teams for 12 games.

In 2011, I know Theo muffed a few early on, and maybe even lost one or two, and that lead to another year of the "safe" unit.

In 2012, I think BK wanted Davonte to get the experience of fielding the punt, while simultaneously keeping him from making the freshman mistake by staying in "safe" mostly. Late in the year, particularly against Pitt, BK started to open it up again. I remember in the 4th against Pitt, after tying the game up, the D forced a pretty quick punt. Davonte had green grass for days right up the middle of the field, but didn't field it cleanly, and killed his only real shot at a huge return on the year (would have been a game-changer, it still pains me to think about),

Just a quick story. One of my friends who I watch Notre Dame games with his brother has two young sons who are big Everett Golson fans. He teaches and is a campus minister at Alter High school in Ohio. There is a freshman campus minister from that area that let Everett Golson know that they are huge fans and he asked to face time them. They did and the boys thought it was the coolest thing in the world. He was ex cited and interested the entire time.
This is an example of one of the reasons why he is one of my favorite players on the Notre Dame team. He is a class act. Also I feel like this is something that would only happen at ND.

Well, I can't complain. He was never the same in games as he was in practice.

But D Kizer is going to have to play this year with the way Malik Z runs

I'd vote South Carolina.

Probably less concerned than I should be.

Regardless, good luck to him.

I think this should be on everyone's mind.

I don't think anyone believes MZ isn't capable. But now you have a less than ideal QB situation. The only silver lining is that DK has all summer and fall camp to take #2 reps. And who knows, maybe Wimbush pushes for that spot.

Best guess on whether this was strictly a football decision or if ND dumped him for inability to qualify for a graduate program?

Just heard. For some reason I actually thought he'd stay. I guess it's nice to go into the season without a QB controversy.
