ND decision to not offer him was prior to his Junior season. According to Costello and some close to him, he really took bigger steps forward in those areas in his junior year.
However, Notre Dame is dialed in on other prospects right now and waiting to see if others emerge. I think Costello could be a kid that they re evaluate, but it will probably be after his expected decision. 2016 has a lot of good quarterbacks that fit what Notre Dame wants to do more than Costello.
In my opinion, he is a perfect fit for what Stanford currently does and will give them the ability to expand their passing game to where they need to go to get to the playoff level.
Any program that asks their QB to drop back, pass and doesn't expect him to run it wants / needs KJ Costello. 2015 was the Year of the Quarterback in the LA/OC/IE area and the majority of people you talk to here think Costello was better than all of them.
That being said, I think what you said in bold is true. The mold for the ND QB looks like Zaire and Wimbush. Dual threat athleticism with plus arms. I've been a Costello fan since I saw him outperform other QB's like Barnett and Rosen but if you ask me today, he'd be the second QB I'd take from his
hometown. Devon Modster is another of these 6-2 athletes with a plus arm. I talked with his coach, former Irish TE Oscar McBride about this during the North Carolina game. I'm sold on Devon Modster (or someone like him) Tom Loy is high on him too and he's trying to get down to Tessoro to see him and Oscar this week..
The other thing that is sad about the Costello situation aside from being a better fit for other programs is apparently his Dad is a big ND fan which would explain the pic of the Dome on his twitter account for along time. That is a story Loy also remarked upon Also, Costello's former teammate and current PWO Ryan Killander is an Irish legacy so they obviously shared that while playing together. I saw Ryan's Dad in some NDClub of OC media pieces. That doesn't always work as we saw with Eason but it never hurts.
If you know the profile you are looking for, it doesn't make sense to deviate.
