Damar Hamlin had his eye on a Notre Dame offer, so he went straight to the source to retrieve it.
"A few weeks ago, I DM'ed (direct message via Twitter) Coach (Brian) Kelly and sent him film of my junior season so far," Hamlin said. "That was the first time we had any contact, though I had been getting some mail. I guess that he looked at it and liked what he saw because he responded back that I should be expecting big news soon."
Last Friday, the 6-foot-1 1/2, 175-pound cornerback received that news in the form of an official offer.
"Getting the offer and actually having it from Notre Dame makes everything more surreal," Hamlin said. "It's such a great football program, and they have a lot of my tradition like my high school does now. A degree from Notre Dame would be amazing."
The Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic product says he doesn't have any favorite programs at this time. So far in the recruiting process he has taken visits to Ohio State, Penn State, Temple, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
"I don't have any scheduled right now, but I would like to get to Ohio State again," Hamlin said. "I'd also like to get to Michigan State and Notre Dame."
"I watched Notre Dame play Arizona State," Hamlin added. "I know they lost and were down by a lot, but you could still see they are just a really good team."
Hamlin is in no rush to make a decision.
"I'll take official visits most likely," he said. "Basically I'm (looking for) education and just what's best for me. I want to go to a school that can set me up for life after football."
On the season, Hamlin has tallied four interceptions, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks and five touchdowns.
"I'm really aggressive for my position," Hamlin said. "I come up and tackle and make plays whenever they are there. We blitz a little bit, but not a lot. I love getting in the backfield and trying to make plays behind the line. That's part of my game."

The Irish coaching staff is looking for size and length at the cornerback spot this cycle and Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic four-star Damar Hamlin fits the mold.

The 6-1, 175-pounder has informed Irish247 that he will visit South Bend for the March 21 junior day event at Notre Dame. Hamlin first picked up an offer from Notre Dame back on Nov. 11, 2014.

Ohio State and Penn State are two major contenders to the Irish for Hamlin's services. He has already taken multiple trips to Columbus and State College. This will be Hamlin's first trip to South Bend.

Per Irish247 we're very much in the mix here going into the visit. Interesting connection, he's friends with 17' ATH Paris Ford who is the brother of Darrin Walls. Paris has shared good things with Damar and ND will be a player in his recruitment. He's also a very good high school prospect.

Glad to see he has such high interest. He is a very important prospect for us. Russell will be gone, and if Luke has another big year, he could go pro as well. If that does happen, Watkins, Crawford, and Hamlin would be a nice reshuffle.

While I think we are in good position, I'm not sure I'd say we're the leaders quite yet. He's visited PSU (7 times), OSU (3 times), and Pitt (3 times). Those 3 are the competition and its going to be tough.

Very surprising turn of events since II with many recruits, Damar being one. Wiltfong and BGI(Andrew Ivins & Coach D) have been fairly open about the amount of ground we've lost with the midwest's best since then. Coach D had some great points on their recent recruiting podcast. With that said a long way to go.
