That's not this year sir. And it's apples to oranges, as at one time he wanted to come to ND badly, but we wanted him at DB instead of RB. We got two great RBs that year, one rated much higher, so I don't have much to complain about. You can retrospectively say you wish we had EE over Greg Bryant, but coming in Bryant was the higher rated and more hyped prospect.

Stull in just one year, hilliard, cornell, and baker is a shit load of talent to lose out on in the midwest.

And I get that cornell is overrated. But I'd gladly have him in this class over someone like brandon tiassum.

Turned out fine with the LB haul we got. I absolutely love Barajas, and Bilal and Coney are legit 4:s: prospects in my eyes. Our young LB depth looks very good. The losses aren't too costly in my eyes.

You could argue us getting Crawford and Taylor meant more to us than losing out on those 3.

Keep in mind that OSU was always going to get some of those kids. Its OSU, they didn't just start being good this year. Some of these kids grew up OSU fans and thats there dream school, it doesn't matter how games we win or they lose. Just like ND gets kids like Trumbetti who was a HS stud that always wanted to play at ND even though we won only 8 games.

Exactly. I mean ND is going to have locks every year like every school. Take for instance Ashton White. He had an offer from Ohio State, but came out on his own dime to ND to earn an offer.

Osu, Mich, and ND are always going to get kids. I mean look at 2007, ND went 3-9 and had the 2nd best class in the nation.

Winning definitely helps, but I just dont see the panic that some of you guys have. ND isn't where the Penn St program is and Notre Dame is always a sexy name in recruiting because of its history.

Its just a matter of finding the kids that really understand Notre Dame. Liam Eichenberg understands the value of coming to Notre Dame.

Bringing this over from another thread....

Bringing this over from another thread....

There was a discussion about the different OT prospects this class, and I just wanted to go over why I drool over Eichenberg's tape for a left tackle (in my well educated but amature opinion). The specific block that proves he's an elite LT prospect is at 1:37 on his hudl sophomore tape:

Sophomore 2013 highlights - William Eichenberg highlights

The drop kick he shows there is textbook drop kick step that I'm looking for in a top 10 overall draft pick. In all the tape I've watched that's extraordinarily rare even at the D1 level. Compare that to Steve Elmer's HS tape, who's footwork neutralizing the edge rush looks more like an awkward side shuffle (and IMO just looks plain bad), which is why I never bought into him being a left tackle in college.

I'd love to hear other member's thoughts on the subject.

I don't want him if he's drop kicking other players. That's 15 yards every time. No thanks.

Per ISD, Liam will be visiting Friday, April 10. He will observe practice and possibly stay over night. He will be attending the OSU spring game on April 18, however, and will not attend ND's March junior day.

So is this good news that he will have more one on one time with the coaches or is it bad that he won't be here for all the hoopla and is attending OSU's spring game?

At this point Liam has visited both campuses multiple times. I cannot see a junior day or spring game having much of an effect on his recruitment. Relationships with the staff and players will, though. So let's hope he spends the night during his trip and can bond with his potential teammates.

If I recall correctly, that was a big part of Hilliard's decision. In the end he had spent so much time bonding with OSU players that he was one of the guys before his Senior year. For that reason, I wish he was visiting at the same time as the other elite linemen that we're courting.

Per his conversation with Anna Hickey:

"If Ohio State hadn't of won the national championship, I would have been committed to Notre Dame already. That helped them a lot."

Sounds really positive in our favor. I think his trip coming up puts him over the edge and he commits to us. He knows we will have a good OL class along with Harry H.. Plus if we start off hot it will help in our favor as well. Thinks look good.

I think this is a tad optimistic. Hope you are right but when his home state University wins the Natty it will be hard to overcome. Still a lot of time left.

Put together a really strong season this year and maybe he will see ND as a school where he has a great chance to win a championship. Sounds like that is only thing that would be holding him back based on the tweet.

I'll be sure to choose my words carefully.

A lot of what happens with Eichenberg hinges on us having a good season. We don't need to be better than O$U, but being competitive and showing that we're moving in the right direction is key. I'd say get to double digit wins and we....could...possibly...be thinking about....sorta....maybe...getting him to...look at...acquiring...a...position on our....group of players.

I think it just means OSU kept the door cracked open some. A solid season this year can reconfirm that everything is headed in the right direction.

I think Liam will be deciding well before this season starts so don't really see our season or theirs next season as that big of a factor assuming one of us don't completely suck.... I think he wanted ND however after seeing OSU dominate in the playoffs his mind has changed and them winning it gave them the edge.... Hope I'm wrong on this one but I'm guessing OSU right now

Yep, he'll be deciding before we play any games and by most accounts he'll be sticking to his commitment.

Liam's cost benefit analysis. ND & OSU

See's the field sooner - OSU

Plays at least 3 seasons at OSU, probably 2 seasons at ND. For the ego, that's an OSU win. For safe guarding against a career ending or limiting injury it's a win for ND.

OL coaching - ND

Becoming part of a pipeline - ND
(there are potentially seven 1st - 3rd round OLinemen currently enrolled at ND. That matters, ask the last 6 TE's.

Degree - ND Just in case a knee gives out or to better handle his HOF career earnings.

I'm sorry, if you are an All American lineman right now there is NO other place to go to maximize the rest of your life than ND. You're gonna sit for a while but that just gives you more time to eat, lift, train and avoid injury until it's your turn to shine starting your junior year.

Thoughts?

.

I think it's the opposite. Seems like the way Liam worded it, OSU winning it all is the ONLY reason they're in contention. I doubt he commits to them this early on that alone. I'd say ND is the favorite in this one...WHOOPS, did I say that?
