He's a stud and at worst a Top 5 RB in 2016. Most seem to think he's the 2nd or 3rd best in the class.

Named as one of Loy's top 5 "to watch" for 2016 Irish RB recruits along with Adams, Rasul, Washington, and Holyfield. Loy wrote an article focusing on him Friday. The money shot:
I’m honestly not sure I can get into Notre Dame. They require a language or two years of it or something like that and I haven’t taken spanish or anything yet. I don’t know if I can get in there. I’m still looking into it.
Elite Back Keeping An Eye On Notre Dame

Sooooo... he'll be "keeping an eye on Notre Dame" as they recruit others. Cross this one off your list, folks.

That damn foreign language requirement. I just don't get how so many high schools don't require any credits for it.

Can we all agree that it's a positive that at least those kids know this 2 years before they sign now?

The problem in this case appears to be that he needs two years of foreign language but he's half way through his junior year. Not sure how he's gonna get his two years.

Is the foreign language requirement for ND a full 2 years or is it 2 semesters? I know all of our High Schools require a couple of semesters to graduate.

I think all High Schools in Michigan require 2 semesters of spanish to graduate now, along with most major university's strongly suggesting the same. That said if ND is that much more difficult i would assume 2 years of Spanish is the requirement?

Classic Loy. The kid straight out says he won't be able to get into ND unless he drastically changes (which he admits himself isn't likely), but he's going to be "one to watch" LOL. Yeah, he's going to be one to watch go to another school. We've seen this movie before...

I wouldn't call taking two foreign language classes over the next three semesters a "drastic change".

Maybe he has other academic issues too, but the article only alludes to the language requirement. Which he could certainly fix if he wanted to get into ND.

but what if the kid "loves those ND academics". never let reality get in the way of a great scoop!

Notre Dame admissions requires two years of foreign language, not two semesters so I have no clue how this kid could meet the requirement now that he is half way through his junior year.

The Standifer kid from Illinois a few years back potentially wanted in and he only had one year but was checking to see if online class would be acceptable. Evidently it wasn't.

Anthony Standifer, a highly recruited cornerback for Notre Dame, seems to be backing away from attending Notre Dame. He couldn’t meet the academic standards Notre Dame has.

In order for Standifer to attend Notre Dame, he would have had to take an online Spanish class to meet admissions requirements. He decided against taking the class and announced it on his Twitter page. He said that it just didn’t workout and then ended the tweet with a frown face.

Anthony Standifer not going to chosse Notre Dame - Slap the Sign - A Notre Dame Fighting Irish Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Sunday, though, Standifer tweeted that "Spanish with ND did not workout," which he followed with a frowny face. He also said he didn't really want to talk about it and said that he was visiting Pitt on Feb. 10. Standifer, who at one time had been committed to Michigan, visited Boise State this weekend.

I have seen it the way you say as well...its one of those who on what to believe

im sure it also matters who offers the course...just like not all credits transfer etc

I went to a very small, very *lenient* Catholic high school that had just okay academics, and even they required two full years of foreign language because of how many colleges have that requirement.

I'm still amazed at how often this issue comes up in recruiting.

I was under the impression that it's two years, not two semesters. If so, that was what I meant by 'drastic'. I could be wrong though.

When I was in high school it was either 3 years of one or 2 years of one and 2 years of another. I never would have thought my high school was on top of getting us into colleges somewhat better than any other high school in the world.

When I was in high school in NJ, in order to graduate (2004), we had to take at least 3 years of a language.

Years and semesters can be interchangable with modern block scheduling. My high school required 2 years and I took it in 2 semesters. The structure was and hour and a half every day for 4 classes. Change each semester. It can be done

I was typing the same thing about block scheduling, 1 semester equals 1 traditional year. It would be great if this kid wanted to play for ND as much as most of us would love to, but IMO there are too many easier positions out there for him it seems.
