Denbrock's contributions in 2014 probably deserve more discussion around here. I'm with Lax in thinking that we've definitely missed his presence in California as a recruiter, but our offense last season was the most productive of the Kelly era. We know Kelly is still calling plays, so how much did Denbrock have to do with that?

If Denbrock had a lot to do with our offensive success last year, then I agree that adding Quinn could be problematic (because he'll be gone soon if he doesn't make OC very quickly). But if Denbrock didn't have much to do with it, then maybe it's time for him to move onto a HC job of his own.

In general I'd really like to see our OC and DC be more active in recruiting. It really seems that other schools have those guys out in front of kids much more than we do.

It was also the first year Kelly had an experienced QB that fit his style of play.

When Denbrock got promoted to OC I thought Kelly's common positive about it was they would be on the same page. Some efficiency maybe developed through that similar philosphy in play calling but I would have to think Golson under center as a non freshman was more influential to the increased offensive fire power than it was Denbrock being OC.

But Golson was responsible for our season falling apart!

Man... have to imagine that there is no way he comes to ND for a QB coach job giving up his gig at ESPN... but that would be an AWESOME hire. Best suggestion yet.

Add on to that list that he also runs Elite 11... talk about an awesome recruiting connection.

I agree that he would be a great hire, but am I the only one who can't stand him on those Elite 11 shows? I get that it's essentially a reality tv show, but Dilfer acts like these kids lives are at stake.

I am assuming Ken Norton is the favorite for the job but hypothetically, where does ND look for new DC? Three schemes in three years is the OPPOSITE of what kelly used to preach, "consistency in approach."

Ugh. Like others, I'm not 100% sold on BVG, but he's doing a lot of good things and I think a little consistency would be good for business. Also, just me, or is DC of the Raiders not necessarily a real step up from here?

I'm with you. Its tough because BVG had some flashes of brilliance early. Granted, we got decimated with injury's, but I don't really feel that the wheels should of completely fallen off like they did.

Apparently he is looking, which means if its not this year, he is going to be gone next year. I say move on, lets get a new guy.

Is Hoke a legitimate DC option? I don't even mean just for us, but generally speaking, has he been a DC in past??

I will say it again, BVG (and BK echoed it) stated when he first came aboard that after looking at things the defense would be a bit of a one-trick pony. Why does it affect the coaching ability of a new DC that hasn't even had a chance to instill his system. After all he has been at ND less than 14 months! No one criticized BK after an 8-5 first season, nor did BK have the position specific depth issues BVG had to deal with.

Huh? what just happened? I'm not going around waiving a huge banner screaming for BVG's head on a stick, i'm just saying, that i'm not all that impressed, if he leaves, cool. If he doesn't, okie dokie.

Not sure if you read my post as some BVG bash or what, but that's not the case, id just like to see someone new if it doesn't appear he is going to stick around anyway.

And my post was certainly not intended to be a Hammer bash, apologies; but, my comment was more directed at what I see as general malaise at BVG as a defensive coordinator, following his early status as an anointed deity.

Hoke can sell trash to a garbage collector. Just look at what he did with Michigan's recruiting. At ND, he would actually have something worth selling. Think of the possibilities.

Not to mention he has 20+ years coaching DL and LBers.

How is this different from his last job?
