He coached at Gorman played in LA coached at Oregon and is Polynesian. He played HS in Detroit but we have enough Midwest recruiters.

This is a upgrade for on the field aspect of the game...and if you did not already know he has connections with Bishop Gorman football which tells you that pipeline is definitely real now as he coached there.

FWIW, Wiltfong thinks he's a midwest recruiter.

I do have the feeling that because he isn't a lifelong coach guy, they won't make him recruit far from home and he'll end up in the midwest, but I'd like to see him recruit Cali like Alford hits Florida.

:)

I thought maybe he picked up some recruits quickly at Vandy.

I haven't followed him, so when I saw that he was leaving Vandy for ND, I assumed he was the one that had developed some good corners at what James Franklin in his epic douchery claimed, "DB U".

Will be nice to have another recruiter that can go into a kid's home and tell them about his SEC experience. "I know what it's like in the SEC. I coached there for 5 minutes", lol.

from one foot down but no prior unless he assisted as a GA at oregon
In terms of recruiting this looks to be a home run hire for Notre Dame. Lyght brings instant credibility to living rooms all over the country and could be especially effective in the Los Angeles area where he lived for many years. He'll be 46 in just a couple days so he's not super young but hopefully the energy to become a valued recruiter is waiting to break out as soon as possible.

Hey! You watch your tone! I recently turned 46 too.

Remember how well Weis recruited off his super bowl ring alone? This guy has that and more in accomplishments plus he has cali roots plus he's Polynesian plus he still looks like a football player...

Wut?

Which is just as long as you would go to class on the SEC!

Rivals quotes from HS coach who had Lyght recruiting one of his kids:

"I think he's a great guy. He represented himself and Vanderbilt really well," "I sat down with Coach Lyght and Quenton Meeks in my office, and I think he did an excellent job of representing Vanderbilt in a positive light. Dum dum, tisk!

"To be honest, it was a little bit of a circus the past five months here with Quenton's recruitment. We saw representation from all these different schools. But I felt like throughout the whole process, Coach Lyght was at the top of the list to when it came to how he handled himself."

"I played college football and I was recruited heavily in high school, and I can tell you that he wasn't a salesmen. He spoke well, he talked about academics, the recruiting process and explained that you're going to make a decision that's best for you," Giaime said. "That made me feel like he was one of the better recruiters out there on the trail."

"He's very in-depth guy who knew what he was looking for. You could tell that when you looked into his eyes," Sanchez said. "He has the enthusiasm to recruit and he's better than most. Some guys come in here — usually the young guys in the profession — and don't connect with guys. He did that."

I think it is a great idea for him to get his start at one of the nation's top college programs. Adds more diversity to his resume. This way, when he goes to coach at ND, he has learned from multiple top notch coaches at all levels of football.

Truth my boy Neutered speaks.

As an aside, when my nephew (who's now 26) was about 5 or 6, he went as Todd Lyght for Halloween.

I'm very excited to see what he can do with Shaun. I already thought he was gonna be a great player, but with a ND great coaching him, we could have something very special.

Curious how he will do in recruiting. Everyone in the article just kept saying the same things, he was quiet, reserved, shy, etc. Not usually words that would go well with recruiting. Of course people can change, and people now may not use those same words to describe him.

Lou Holtz applauds Todd Lyght's apparent return to ND - Notre Dame Insider: Notre Dame Football

Hansen article with quotes from Holtz that I found interesting (considering what happened with Jennings this year), and Wiltfong on whether he'll be a good recruiter.

I also saw the following in the article: competitive, confident, dedicated, leader, focused, determined.

Hopefully, his understanding of ND and competitive nature propel some recruiting success.
