I have no doubt that BK will hire the right guy. He seems to have a track record of that so far here at ND. I do hope that he's a badass recruiter though. Some coaches just aren't your living room friendly type guys.

Cooks turned down promotions to stay at ND when Diaco had one foot out the door and Cooks was the most obvious in-house replacement. ND passed him over to hire Van Gorder from outside. That tells Cooks he's hit his ceiling in South Bend.

I'm quite skeptical this has anything to do with money.

COOKS COACHING CAREER

2003 Kansas State Graduate Assistant
2004 Western Illinois Defensive Backs/Assistant Special Teams
2005 Minnesota Defensive Backs
2006-09 Wisconsin Defensive Backs/Assistant Special Teams
2010 Notre Dame Outside Linebackers
2011 Notre Dame Cornerbacks
2012-13 Notre Dame Co-Defensive Coordinator/Cornerbacks
2014 Notre Dame Secondary

Yup. Cooks' departure (and IE's reaction to it) reminds me a lot of Warriner's. Lots of hand-wringing, until Hiestand comes in and dominates OL recruiting. Have a little faith, people.

Ernest Jones, Unemployed, former Connecticut running backs coach
Notre Dame ties: Served as Notre Dame's Director of Player Development and Engagement prior to accepting a position on Bob Diaco's staff at Connecticut. He resigned last February due to a religious conflict.

Would love to hear more about that. What sort of "religious conflict" would force a member of ND's coaching staff to resign?

Wiltfong is hearing this morning that he expects Cooks to be the next DC at OK. Doesn't specify when that would be.

Makes sense, when he got passed over (after being co-DC under Diaco) for BVG I figured he'd make a move to a DC job somewhere else... that's what was surprising about this move as first reported. Wouldn't really make much sense for him to make a later move if there was a carrot involved somewhere.

He made a public comment that "Jesus belongs in the huddle" or something to that effect. UConn came out to criticize his statement and distance itself from the sentiment (which is predictable as it's a public institution). He resigned a few weeks later.

EDIT: Or just read Lax's link.

Oh man you missed that story? It was at UCONN, not ND. Bit of an interesting political discussion.

UConn Football Coach Who Said Jesus Should Be ‘In the Center of Our Huddle’ Resigns | Video | TheBlaze.com

Reading comprehension fail on my part. Thought it was implying that he resigned from ND due to a religious conflict.

I know Minter's wife. Let me see if I can find anything out. I know his goal is to coach at ND.

Did rivals really throw the Jeff Quinn has over 8K in posts and $1 Trillion at Irish Envy or did ND NYC add that in on his own?

so, let me get this straight, is wiltfong saying for right now its a lateral move i.e. secondary coach etc with a "promise ring" to become their DC a couple years from now (date uncertain)?

and he fell for this?

blood is thicker than water....

BK will make a great hire regardless. not worried here.

Jeff Quinn, Unemployed, former Buffalo head coach
Current salary: N/A
Notre Dame ties: His tie to Notre Dame is Kelly and the experience the two have coaching together.
Why it makes sense: Kelly's offenses were at their best when Quinn was directing them. He was rumored to be a candidate for the offensive coordinator position last offseason, but Buffalo still employed him as a head coach then.
Why it wouldn't make sense: Quinn might be reluctant to take the job if he is not the offensive coordinator and playcaller. With Mike Denbrock's promotion to coordinator last offseason, Notre Dame might be reluctant to ask him to relinquish that role.
Recruiting notes: Quinn recruited Michigan, Ohio and Illinois when he was the the offensive coordinator at Cincinnati. He signed back-to-back last place classes in the MAC at Buffalo in 2012 and 2013. Has over 8,000 posts on Irish Envy, and a trillion vbucks.

Looks like at least 3 of us read his bio info from the article.

whats the deal with kyle mccarthy? is he still battling cancer?

Going into the sports agent business. One name to consider as DB coach is Willie Martinez current DB coach at Tennessee. Worked with Kelly at Central Michigan and with BVG at Georgia and Auburn. Has recruited well for years in SEC country.

The article says he is making $355,000. Not sure we would be willing to pay more let alone match that

imho every coach was essentially auditioning for a job after the usc game. My guess is there will be more changes to come

Spoke to Minter's wife and she said Jessie hasn't been contacted and this is the first she heard Jessie's name being mentioned. She knows her football and the coaching circles. She said with minority requirements look for Cooks replacement to be a minority if his leaving puts ND under the number.

GA and Secondary ???

I'm not familiar with being able to hold both those jobs simultaneously. He's either a GA OR a Postion Coach. GAs can not recruit that's restricted to position coaches.

Does Crum have any actual position coaching experience?
