Farrar and his mother left early this morning to beat bad weather. They probably left before Kelly headed out to Arizona.

And yes, I would assume Kelly was on campus for the rest of Farrar's vist.
Then this is a non-issue. Thank you.

I know it's the wrong place for this question, but is Cooks really going to OU? If so could that potentially mess with our committed defensive backs?

... this kid should be getting red carpet treatment considering the situation at the position and it's hard to do that without the HC...

Fvck that! Then we wonder why these kids seem to have this insane sense of entitlement... Be happy to have him, tell him how important he is to your overall strategy, but "red carpet" only reinforces these kids' false belief that they are somehow better than everyone else.

^this. I'm not ready to crucify BK until the facts come out. By all accounts, this kid is being deliberate & thoughtful throughout the recruiting process. Just b/c he's not reporting that he was "blown away" doesn't mean it was a colossal f-up. let's see how this plays out.

Pretty sure the name of the game is to land kids who ARE better than everyone else lol. You must enjoy mediocre football.

I think the idea is to land kids that are better at football than everyone else yet at the same time realize this does not in fact make them better than everyone else.

At Notre Dame's invitation this young man travelled from Georgia to Indiana in the middle of the winter with a major snowstorm forecast for the midwest. Unless BK has an excellent excuse, he should have been at the university to greet Farrar and his parents. If Kelly couldn't be there the visit should have been scheduled for the previous weekend or sometime during the week.

Being the head football coach at Notre Dame does not excuse one from common courtesy. This is not the first recruit that wondered why our head coach was absent for his official visit. Contrast this with the red carpet treatment given by Urban Meyer and one has to wonder if Kelly has tired of college football and the rigors of recruiting. Our head coach should be our best recruiting tool. Is Notre Dame getting this kind of commitment from its current head coach?

You're confused if you think I want kids who think they're better human beings than everyone else. I want elite athletes who think and play like they're elite athletes. Who the fuck doesn't?

it seems the norm nowadays for big time programs to have assistants move to other jobs after signing day. which is probably good for keeping classes intact but kinda shady for the recruits when a position coach is telling them for 2 years + they are gonna be developing them during their college career

Doesn't it make sense that bk left Sunday for the Super Bowl after ad left to go home pretty sure bk would have time to get to the Super Bowl. Everyone flips out without knowing any facts It's quite funny all the doomsday people around here. Kelly is a professional righty?

TJ's response regarding Farrar not being "blown away"...

In general, and not speaking to or about Farrar specifically here, kids who make less emotional, business-like decisions -- not normally categorized in the recruiting lingo "blown away" -- tend to make the better students and happier, more invested and more dedicated student-athletes at ND. Success at ND in all aspects of life usually follows those, as they buy in, and the more emotionally fleeting "blown away" types often are the ones we come to discuss later on on these sites in less than flattering terms. Just the nature of the beast, especially at ND.

It doesn't matter whether Farrar is "blown away" by a visit. It matters that he views and has evaluated ND as the best option for him over the next four, if not forty, years. We'll find out soon on the latter, regardless of whatever the former may or may not mean.

Actually sounds like a normal post. He's actually a stable writer that doesn't get unbalanced emotionally

Does anyone really know if BK left before Farrar arrived? Possibly met him, told him he had an obligation so he couldn't be there for the entire visit?

Just speculating here, but perhaps the reason for Cooks' departure was Kelly's displeasure at how safety-recruiting was going. Again, just a possibility.

People expect us to win a recruiting battle with no position coach? And no pre-existing relationship?

While Farrar was at a position of dire needs, there was also a lot to hate in his film as was already discussed in this thread. It's sad that we were in the position to need him as a contingency plan to begin with... that's the real crime.

This is pretty much where I am at too.

I don't mean to give Kelly a pass if he in fact was never on campus during the official. But maybe we should probably wait to hear some confirmation on that before we start marching towards the Kelly residence with torches.

Yup; he got so upset, he went to the super bowl when a safety finally showed up!

Honestly if White can play safety its not the end of the world we whiffed.

Yup. Or Butler. As long as you're moving at lest one guy you're probably fine. And Farrar has no ability to be a "rangy" type of FS which is what's the depth hole on the roster.

It's just sad because Edwards was a versatile and talented prospect we really should've landed. Cooks not getting it done makes a lot more sense now though.

Against Wisconsin, yes. There's also the fact that he does have a pre-existing relationship dating back to his sophomore season when he camped with ND. He also caught a game on campus back in October of 2012 as an unofficial visitor.

As far as hating his film goes, I just don't get it. He never really seems to be tested - although I agree he's definitely not the fastest kid on the field I think they could improve some of those traits with a soid diet/training regimen. As it stands we're screwed - the staff went from no contingency plans to having a few options before deciding not to scramble at the end.

Not really concerned...
1.Williams is a stud 15 safety
2.We got very good depth at DB and can move a guy. Moving a CB that is physically ready and has been on campus is far better option than Ferrar or Reid IMHO. (Butler)
3.Cory Holmes.........
4.I feel James O is a best 11 guy and could still move back to safety if our young LB's prove to be ready

I have to believe we move White to safety. There is just too much of a need for someone with his skill set at the back end. Not to mention he likely wouldn't see the field for 2-3 years at corner.
