I think the reason for the success of the year this year is that Brey is finally giving solid PT to about 8-9 guys instead of the usual 6 from years past. Probably one of the critical reasons that ND has a tough time advancing in March. The legs are more fresh and the speed and athleticism is finally showing. This is the most athletic ND team we have had probably in my lifetime.

Great run with the 5 guards. Amazing what hitting a few shots can do for a team.

Massive win. We're going to be Top 10 on Monday.

Brey out-coached Larranaga today.

Huge win.

Guys, don't be surprised if Brey starts running more 5 guard lineups.

He's essentially telling the other teams, we'll do our best defensively against your big men, but if you want to stop our offense, you're gonna have to play small ball.

Brey is/will force teams to change the way they match up against us. And forcing teams to play differently is always a good thing!

Big win. Auguste barely played too. Get him back in the rotation and we could be dangerous. Beachem might be one of the best 6th men in the country.

Curious as to everyone's thoughts on a five guard lineup. Personally, I hate it. Somehow Miami wasn't able to exploit it, but good teams will be able to put a big guy on Connaughton and Beachem and I don't think we'll be able to stop it. Not to mention, Grant and Connaughton are already playing too many minutes to be kept fresh imo.

I think it can be used in spurts at times very effectively. Auguste is still a huge part of the team, he was just sloppy today with 0 practice time.

Some teams will be able to exploit a 5-guard lineup, but I think we could still use it here and there against the middle/lower ACC teams.

I prefer to have a big guy in there, but it worked pretty well today. Guess we'll just have to see where it goes. Big win today! Go Irish!

So, with Louisville (#6), Utah (#8) and Kansas (#9) all losing today (Louisville and Utah both lost by double digits), I would expect that the Irish will be in the top 10 when the next polls come out. Got to take care of business vs Va Tech and NC St on the road this week, setting up a potential monster game at home vs Duke on the 28th.

Got to take care of business vs Va Tech and NC St on the road this week, setting up a potential monster game at home vs Duke on the 28th.

1/22: at Virginia Tech 8-8 (0-3)
1/25: at North Carolina State 13-6 (3-1)
1/28: vs #4 Duke 15-2 (3-2)
1/31: at Pittsburgh 13-5 (3-2)

I would be very happy to see them finish January going 3-1. The games at North Carolina State and at Pittsburgh are going to be huge hurdles regardless of Duke.

From there it lightens up, at least for being the ACC. Would finishing ACC play with three losses (hypothetically of course) be enough to tie for the ACC regular season championship?

2/04: vs Boston College 8-8 (0-4)
2/07: at #4 Duke 15-2 (3-2)
2/10: at Clemson 10-7 (2-3)
2/17: vs Wake Forest 9-9 (1-4)
2/21: at Boston College 8-8 (0-3)
2/24: vs Syracuse 13-5 (4-1)
3/04: at #6 Louisville 15-3 (3-2)
3/07: vs Clemson 10-7 (2-3)

Can't really see Virginia losing 3 games. They do have a 3 game stretch of Duke, Carolina, and Louisville in a row but other than that shouldn't have too many problems. Just get to the acc tourney with a double bye and take your best shot.

Went to the game yesterday and had a blast. Some rough stretches but gutted out a conference win. The 5 guard lineup really sparked us and I think can be effective in small doses when we need to jumpstart the offense. This is the best start to an ND bball season in over 30 years.

This is the best team I have seen since Digger's final 4 squad. Scoring balance is unbelievable. If someone is cold, there are plenty of other guys to pick up the slack. The only negative is the shortcomings in rebounding. That, however, is offset by being more athletic on the defensive side.

honestly surprised they moved up that much. I thought 1 spot max. I know some teams in front of them lost, but they lost to other teams in front of ND. Regardless pretty sweet they are top 10.

Watching Duke tonight for the first time this season, they look unbelievable. Can't wait for those matchups.
