Its pretty rare to get a top 5 positional player because, why work on school if u don't have to. NFL is in their future regardless. Maybe the catholic school background plus parents can help. if not, forget about it.

Based on no info at all, I'd say he's going to Bama.

From Loy:

Just caught up with five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary.

The elite junior prospect said he was "really excited" when he got his offer from Notre Dame. He said he talks to 2015 quarterback Brandon Wimbush often and has a lot of interest in the Irish.

Will have a full update later today.

And what does he fall back on when he gets injured?

When was the point in which ND was no longer the runaway leader for Catholic School recruits? I'm sure they were pulling practically every single catholic school football giant across the country back in the dizzay. It seems like these schools would be our cup of tea, but we seem to pull about the same or less than other schools. On the serious. I'm not expecting them to land every single elite catholic talent, but we should be the front runner for at least a couple in a cycle, and land a few.

And it really doesn't make sense, because if they're from a Catholic School background and want a fast track to the NFL, they can have the best of both worlds. ND graduates more football players than pretty much anybody, and they put players in the NFL as good or better than the SEC schools. Weather? Well considering this is Joisey we're talking about, weather can't be that much of a factor.

Will he get into ND, to me that is always question 1.

Do they really just take any Joe Schmo that can play ball at Paramus Catholic? You'd think there would be some form of academic standard that would keep schools like ND within reach.

NJ kids generally do not go to SEC schools with the exception of Florida. Also more likely to go to Penn St vs Ohio St; but you never know.

Seems that now that Harbaugh has been hired you feel a bit more confident with posting. hah

I've been thinking this since Tom started posting again. He went on a 4 month vacation from IE and I can't figure out why ;)

Someone should rep Beau...I have to spread it around. Thanks in advance.

some cities have voucher programs that allow some "Under priviledged" individuals go to these catholic schools for free

That makes sense, but you'd think they'd require a certain GPA requirement to be upheld. Since they aren't paying tuition, I'd say making sure their low grades don't slander their illustrious reputation would be important.

1. Did you really just say "dizzay"?

2. This isn't the 70's anymore. Most Catholic schools with big-time football programs in talent-rich areas (esp in the inner-cities) do NOT run the way you think they do. Not even close.

Take Los Angeles for example. USC has two massive feeder programs, and they are both Catholic School programs - J Serra (Farmer, Woods, Lee, etc etc) and St. John Bosco (Mama and Falah, to name a couple). These schools recruit BIG-TIME, and they don't recruit Catholic kids, they recruit athletes. Several years ago, Bosco got tired of getting killed by Mater Dei and Servite, so they fired all their coaches in football and basketball and brought in coaches that could bring in players. And now they are LOADED in both sports. The school has taken a hit academically, but they don't care. There are some bad seeds in that school now, but again, they don't care. They are winning and that drives up enrollment, and that's all that matters to them. Same thing happened with Serra about 8 years ago, and now all they do is win state titles and churn out D1 athletes.

Welcome to the new world. It's going on in Florida, New Jersey, Texas, everywhere. Not at every Catholic school, but it's happening. Get used to it. And these kids are going there for free.

3) Seriously, did you really say "dizzay" in that post?

I am not sure how serious his interest is but watching some of the games in the last week we need some big bodies on that dline to stuff the run up the middle and just make sure our athletes on the outside can tackle. Bama to me missed a lot of tackles.

NDinLA is correct. You should learn more about what goes on. Catholic schools in Indy have recruited for a long long time. Now the other religious schools do it all the time for basketball.

I had a nephew who played HS football on Oklahoma (He earned D1 offers). After his sophomore year they moved back to Indy. My sister tells me that Roncalli was knocking on their door only a couple of days after they had moved back. They didn't have the money for him to go there, but Roncalli said they could take care of his tuition for him. I asked if her daughter was going to Roncalli as well and she tells me they didn't offer anything. She had to go to the local public school. That's the reason the IHSAA changed their rules in football. If a parochial school wins state two years in a row, they get bumped up a class.

My roommate went to high school with Rashan and played football with him for two years (at Scotch Plains not Paramus). He knows him personally and describes him as a "Notre Dame type of kid" because of his personality and the type of person he is. However, he did tell me at the beginning of football season that he was hearing that he wanted to stay closer to home (he mentioned Rutgers and Penn State), but after winter break he says he heard that Rashan is more open to leaving the North East. In his opinion, he thinks Rashan goes to Alabama or Michigan. It's still a long way to go before signing day, so if we can get him on campus I think we have a small shot.
