Here we go again.

Berkeley is two miles N. W. of Ferguson, Mo in St Louis Co. The St Louis Dispatch did not release any names nor the teen's and cop's race 7 hours ago when they filed their story but the Huffington Post and Reuters have noted the teen was black and. They also claim the teens name was released by his mother.

Berkeley's a small suburb and their PD has turned the investigation over to St Louis Co Dept of Crimes Against Persons unit.

Oh, and true to script the nearby QuikTrip was vandalized after the shooting.

Berkeley officer fatally shoots teenager : News

Updated at 3:15 a.m. with new details.

BERKELEY • A Berkeley police officer fatally shot a suspect who pointed a gun at him late Tuesday, St. Louis County police said early today.

Police did not identify the person killed but Toni Martin, who was at the scene, said he was her 18-year-old son, Antonio Martin.

Several protesters also arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting. Many stayed overnight.

St. Louis County police said the incident started about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday as the Berkeley officer "was conducting a routine business check" at the Mobil gas station at 6800 North Hanley Road.

The officer saw two people outside the station, got out of his vehicle and approached them. One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired at the officer.

"Fearing for his life, the Berkeley Officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him," the release from the county police said. "The second subject fled the scene."

Berkeley police requested that the county department's Crimes Against Persons Unit handle the investigation of the shooting. Detectives "recovered the deceased subject's handgun at the scene," the release from county police said.

For at least two hours, the body remained on the parking lot just in front of the gas station as police investigated the shooting. Berkeley police cars were on either side. A Berkeley police car was later towed away.

The station appeared to have security cameras that are trained on the parking lot.

Toni Martin said her son was with his girlfriend at the time of the shooting. The girlfriend remained at the scene but declined to talk to a reporter.

Just after the shooting, several dozen people gathered outside the gas station, which was ringed by crime scene tape.

The crowd at the station included ministers and some of the people who have been active in the protests related to the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18, by a Ferguson police officer in August.

At one point, as some of the protesters grew rowdy, explosive flashes were set off. It was unclear by who.

Also, a QuikTrip store near the Mobil station was damaged by vandals before police officers closed access to it.

Mike Smith, 30, was among those who came to the shooting scene. He lives in the Canfield Green apartments in Ferguson, where Brown was killed Aug. 9. He works at a warehouse and said he came to Berkeley after seeing social media reports about the shooting.

"This is ridiculous, man," Smith said of Martin's shooting. "After the first one this sh-- should have stopped. My only question is: what exactly did he do to be killed?"

Also among the crowd were several legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild.

There were also several protesters who had wrapped police tape around themselves.

What did he do to be killed? If the reports are correct, could he have pointed a firearm at the police and fired it? On a well check?

Those protesting this one should be put in jail. Dude shoots at an officer (if reports are true) and people are protesting what the officer did???

C'mon man.

Agreed.

If they're protesting it's not like they have jobs to go to.

I mean if they're missing work to protest they could just as easy miss work behind bars.

People have a right to demonstrate and have an opinion. But then there's this.

"What did he do to be killed?" He pointed a gun at a cop!!!

End of story.

When a mob shows up in the middle of the night, you know they are wanting to start more problems. Why aren't they in bed?

What's an 18 year old do carrying a gun, let alone pointing it at a police officer? The people showing up don't care about that. I guess they think its Dodge City or Tombstone all over again.

Couple of things:

1. Cop has every right to protect himself.

2. My bigger issue is that the kid is actually carrying a weapon in that atmosphere. With all of the shit that has been happening around that are, he was taking a major risk just by having the gun. To actually use it to go on the offensive is insane against a cop.

3. Local leaders and protesters should be working with the local community to prevent these types of things from happening. LEAD your community, not just protests. Run a gun (Turn-in) Drive, Have community discussions about being an intelligent person and an outstanding citizen, disarm yourselves or take the steps need to carry legally, etc.

4. This year has boiled down to one word for me and that is EDUCATION. All people educating themselves on the issues of race, justice, great citizenship, communication skills, and unfortunately it is still needed on both sides as we move into 2015.

Is it education on all those topics or is it common sense and respect that's missing?

If the reports are true of the teen pointing a gun at the officer, then this shouldn't even be an issue.

But of course it somehow will be.

If it happened at a convenience store there should be some video showing what happened.

That's my question here. Obviously we're dealing with a big issue here, and never before have incidents like this received such national attention on a weekly basis from the media. While many of these stories would often be localized in their respective regions, we're now seeing these blow up on a national level.

The officers haven't been flawless in their work in each circumstance, but in a majority of these cases I'm not seeing police brutality being the problem. I'm seeing officers following through with their training and acting mostly appropriately given a lack of common sense by a number of these individuals that lose their lives and an overwhelming disrespect for law enforcement.

If the reports are true that this teen brandished a gun on cops and fired it, I have no sympathy. Loss of life is a horrible thing, but shooting at law enforcement is absolutely asking for suicide by cop. A story like this shouldn't be receiving national attention under normal situations, but given the powder keg we're now faced with, and the proximity to Ferguson, I can see why the media is jumping on it.

I'm looking at my Facebook feed right now, looking at a live feed of comments on this situation with #AntonioMartin. A majority of the posts are siding with the teen.

I have read a few reports some say he shot at the cop and the other one said he pulled the gun out on the cop. Regardless of either situation it isn't going to end well if you are white, black purple, green, yellow or any other color. If you pull a gun on a cop you will be shot it shouldn't be that hard of a concept to realize. But when believe in a bad message just like the terrorist I guess nothing can reverse that type of brain wash.

Wow... That is some of the dumbest stuff I have ever read. Those are some seriously messed up folks.

I agree and do not believe our founding fathers had this drivel in mind when the first amendment awarded our citizens freedom of speech. Unfortunately, social media and outlets like facebook have made every ignorant, uninformed, uneducated and agenda driven moron on the planet feel like it is not only their right, but their duty to speak out on topics such as this no matter how foolish and irresponsible their commentary is. The 1st amendment gave everybody the right to use their voice, but just because you have the right to do something doesnt mean it is always a good idea. Now we're at a point where most of these instigators and loose lipped jackasses can't even decide if it's a race issue anymore, or a "f*ck the police" issue.

I was talking about it with my wife the other night, and if I were walking down the street and a cop pulls his patrol over and wants to talk with me, whether I have done anything wrong or not, I would get nervous as hell and be all 'yes sir", "no sir" out of respect and to some extent "fear" (for lack of a better word) of the law. People are out of control and I don't blame the cops one bit for possibly being more aggressive in the environment they are operating in where very few "respect" the law anymore.

Even in the Eric Garner video, the office that puts him in a chokehold...long before that happened, Mr. Garner is raising his voice and arguing with the officers...it wasn't until they attempted to turn him around and put handcuffs on him and he began resisting that he was put in the chokehold. The chokehold may have been excessive, but bottom line if the man hadn't resisted arrest, he is still alive today. If he was innocent as he claims, what is the harm in letting them put handcuffs on you, take you down to the station, tell your story and the facts will either prove you guilty or exonerate you. Either way, no benefit was going to come from arguing with the officers and resisting arrest.

The police are not the issue here, but it is much easier during times of hostility to point a finger at another than to take a long hard look in the mirror.

May I ask who is the "They" in this statement?

Education and lack there of is the problem imo.

Respect can go along way and I think you can be taught how to respect others...Hence Education.

Hopefully some digital reimaging can clear it up, but there at least appears to be a pointing of something at the end. Doesn't prove anything, but at least the conversation can start with something.

Still watching the Facebook feed, more social media craziness:

Devon Pacman: The revolt will begin soon, cops r supposed to protect not kill. U use lethal force to disarm and subdue not to kill. Idc what anyone say this is a racially motivated agenda and one way or another it's gonna stop soon. If u scared for your life and ain't willing to die then don't become a cop. It's that fucking simple. Too many people just want the title, the power,.and a gun so no one looks at the tiny dick. Insecure ass Bitch ass fuck boi pussy ass cops. Nyrah Springer: ` This world we live in is so fucked up, I dont trust nobody & I guess thats why we say "Fuck the Police?" ` ‪#‎antoniomartin‬
Freye Duffy: THIS SHIT IS HEARTBREAKING..............IT A DAMN WAR ON US DO YOU SEE IT NOW
John Minor Jr.: they need to just bomb the precinct out there in the whole organization trigger happy
Wendell Changeddagame Lomax: They still killing us
Tree Dolla: Man dey still on dat bull in Missouri smh... R.I.P. ANTONIO MARTIN
Nikita Allen: "Two miles from Ferguson and an hour into christmas eve eighteen year old Antonio Martin was shot and killed. It is very clear that racism does not take a holiday. Please pray/ keep him and his family in your thoughts today and tomorrow as well as the other victims of police violence that this past year has carried. do not let their names be forgotten." ‪#‎blacklivesmatter‬ ‪#‎policebrutalityhastostop‬ ‪#‎antoniomartin‬
Robert Chisolm‎"I'm Just Saying"........!!!: This will continue to go on,BACK & FORTH between the police and the public,no one will be safe until the police departments nationwide willingly or by force,WEED OUT RACIST/CORRUPT POLICE OFFICERS! The communities KNOW who the bad cops are,and so do their fellow officers and police higher ups! The serve as police officers at the behest of those like and above them, who also harbor great racial hatred towards blacks and other people of color! We have another DOUBLE STANDARD in play. The law prohibits that anyone who hides/protects anyone who has committed a crime, also a criminal and that they too will be subject to prosecution/punishment! Why are'nt racist/corrupt police subject to that same rule of law, when they help free a guilty officer from prosecution?
Dan Carroll: COPS PLANT GUN !!!!
Sharon Williams: THIS IS NOT OVER!
Carl von Oberlender: I guess we are to the point that we need RoboCops or something... We need cops that aren't always so "scared for their life." Maybe then less people would be shot and killed.... I always thought it was brave individuals that went into the police force... I guess not so much anymore. Is it really a good idea to arm a group of individuals that are so easily scared for their life?
Jackie Dworatzek: As of today another young black kid was shot and killed by a white police officer not far out of ferguson for fitting the incredibly detailed suspect profile of a black male 18-24 years old. He was immediately shot, not arrested or detained or anything else. Antonio Martin walked out of a convenience store and was shot. I am absolutely disgusted and angry. More here: http://lavrelcastillo.tumblr.com/…/socialjusticekoolaid-tee…
and the hashtag ‪#‎antoniomartin‬ on twitter
David McCalmon: They asked a stop to the protest in their "time of mourning" the to dead cops...odd though....in their time of mourning the murder of Black men goes on unchecked
Chanel West: Yes, because we should all believe that a Black teenager pulled a gun and pointed it at police. YUP VERY LIKELY. Another day and another hashtag. ‪#‎AntonioMartin‬ did not have to die. I do not care ONE BIT if he was armed. How many stories of armed white men who've ATTACKED police and lived to be arrested have we read? I don't care if Antonio pulled out a gun. He didn't have to die. One Black mother without her son at the hands of a thug in blue.
And they call for peace. Again, I ask WHY? The police have declared war on Black people. It's plain and simple.

This one, however, makes sense. The media is stirring the pot here:
Kay Sharpe: headlines about ‪#‎AntonioMartin‬ say things like "Another black teenager shot by police" when the kid is on video raising a gun? The headlines should read "Hero cop stops criminal in his tracks" from the sounds.
