He also can't escape like he did in college. Just doesn't look that fast compared to NFL guys. Interesting to watch.

It's not on TV where I am, but I can only imagine. He's got to be hands down the most overrated QB of the past decade... Quinn disappointed, but at least he didn't actively hurt his team.

Yeah, JFF's first start went exactly as expected. Quite frankly, I don't think he'll ever become a good quarterback. In college he relied on his wheels too much to make plays and for his receivers to bail him out. He won't have that luxury in the NFL. If he wants to be successful he'll have to become an entirely different QB, I don't see it happening. Browns should have never touched him.

As a Browns fan but not a believer in Manziel, I was very curious to watch today. While he was far from being alone he looked absolutely horrible. Part of the problem was the defense got gashed early on and put them in a 17 point hole almost immediately. Browns were putrid in all phases of the game. I was in full favor of playing him to see over the last three games if he is worth a crap. Browns have 2 first round picks next year. I would keep drafting QBs until they get it right. I was hoping Mnaziel would look different than he did in college but he quickly reverted to his old bad habits almost immediately.

Oh for fucks sake. It was his first game as a rookie, with zero pass blocking, no run game, and one week to completely instal a new offensive system. This might be the dumbest comment i have seen on IE in a long time. Hoyer has been actively hurting the Browns for weeks. I understand your JFF hate boner is about to burst right now but think before you post.

I agree with most of this ^ The entire team looked terrible today. It's a combination of not being prepared to play (somehow??) and injuries adding up. The right side of the oline is worthless, the loss of Mack can't be underestimated. We ran 38 offensive plays today, 38! Thats incredibly low the NFL average is around 70. If the defense is getting shredded by he run game and the time of possession is against you 4 to 1 it's gonna be hard for any offense to look good.

Manziel looked bad, but so did 85% of the roster today.

You could draft Jameis Winston.

That's what happens when your offense alternates between 3 and outs and interceptions.

I will grant you that the Browns as an organization are a graveyard for QBs, but Manziel is not and will never be a quality NFL quarterback regardless of team. What made him great in college was his ability to escape pressure, extend plays, and give his receivers a chance to make a play on the ball. His first instinct is to turn his back to pressure, and he will not set his feet and throw. In college, that worked great. In the NFL...not so much. It's not even worth calling those things flaws, though, because they're what made him special. If you fix them, all your left with is...not much. A dude with less talent then Clausen, a mediocre mind for the game, and a propensity for getting into trouble. Hall of fame, here we come.

Watch that first pick, any real NFL QB gets the ball there with enough sauce to avoid the pick. His receiver had a good 3 yards of separation and his line gave him plenty of time. It doesn't get easier than that.

In the words of Merril Hoge "whoever drafted him in Cleaveland, they need to be fired. It's unfair to the kid, he has sixth round talent, but first round hype."

To be fair, he's on a bad team and was making his first start ever. I don't think he's going to be a regular starter in the league. But his first game isn't enough to determine that.

Certainly some of what made him "JFF" was mitigated by NFL defensive speed. I don't think he was ready for that.

He was ready for SEC speed, which is pretty much the same thing.

No, it isn't. College is just a totally different ballgame. The worst NFL teams would kick the crap out of any SEC team.

No way man, do you even watch SEC football and nothing else? If Johnny can handle Bama, he can handle the NFL. Just gotta give him time to adjust to the slowness of his teammates who were drafted from other conferences and he'll be fine.

There are many elite players in the SEC. But the NFL has the best players in the world. There are plenty of SEC defensive stars who can't make a roster (e.g., SEC defensive player of the year, Michael Sam). Man for man, it's not even close. Manziel was getting run down by NFL defensive ends today.

Now, again, he might adjust and be pretty good. I wouldn't personally put money on that.
