I think he runs and cuts like no TE we've had before. He's a special talent. He's a Devin Funchess type IMO.

Yes. Very much so. Not the same player as Eifert, but similar molds. A WR in a TE's body.

Agree. I think he could be an elite blocker on the second and third level of the defense too. He's got all the tools - big frame, long limbs, great feet, runs well and a fluid athlete. If he works at it, he's going to be an absolute nightmare for safeties and linebackers in the open field (as a receiver or a blocker). And if he adds a bit of weight he'll be better than average at the point of attack.

Hope we land him.

He is better than Funches.

He's rated higher at the same age. You didn't mean he's better right now, right? They are a lot alike regardless.

Something I just realized, Boykin is bigger (weight) than Jones.

He also knows that its very important that he learns how in in-line block. Very important for kids to understand the importance of the "not fun" part of the game.

Those that do get it excel. There's a ton of kids who can catch the ball, but don't know how to block properly.

Ideal "flexed out" TE prospect.

I'd have to go with Miles Boykin as the "flexed out" TE/WR prospect, I've seen him a few times this year at ND and dude is huge.

Boykin and Jones would be a nice complement to each other.

Robinson, Boykin, Koyack/Smythe, & Alize for next year's goalline-shotgun package! Yell "500" and throw it up high.

I'll be the first of at least 3 people to tell you Koyac won't be here next year :).

I figured and to be honest, I am not heartbroken. I have been excited to see some of the younger TE's step up. Really wish Luatua would become a permanent fixture in tight in goalline situations or as a lead FB. We have a good mixture of rugged blocking TE's and rangy WR types.

He's no doubt a special talent and quite different then the TE's have had of late. Though he can play as a traditional TE or as a FLEX-TE in the mold of Tyler Eifert who bounces around from being inline to all the other WR positions.

I get the Funchess comparison and I somewhat agree but IMO Miles Boykin is the player who best compares to the Michigan WR/TE hybrid.

Aliz'e Jones is just different and can't think of just one player that he directly compares to. I think he's got a bit of Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis to him and Eric Ebron isn't a bad comparison but none just fit quite right though.

Our recent departure from using our TE isn't helping to reel this guy in. Nor is our inability to finish this season strong. However, 2015 playing time should be attractive to him.

Hmmm....

Whatever his reason, it didn't last. I followed him for a few days last week and he tweets like every 5 minutes so I unfollowed.

Everett had such a good connection with Tyler Eifert...and I thought the same for Koyack this year.

Connection was pretty good, but 2011 Eifert with Rees was more productive than 2012 Eifert with Golson.

Even though Eifert did have a much better season statistically than Koyack has had this year, it's probably due to the fact that Eifert lined up as a WR quite often, where as Koyack has been strictly in-line or in the slot a few times.

EG can't throw over the middle of the field, too short, TE's going over the middle will be Koyack'd. He, btw, will be a steal in the late rounds for an NFL team.

Eifert played out wide, a lot...had the skill set. Just like Jones. Tyler wasn't a blocker either, until later. Just like Jones.

I really hope we get this kid, what a hell of a receiver!!! Don't think we do though.

I mean if they can't sell getting a 1st and 2nd round TE drafted plus another in the second 4 years ago, then shame on the staff.

According to II Nico says Jones is 50-50 between UCLA and ND. They apparently are very close friends who spend a lot of time together. Will be flying together on the Fertitta jet for the banquet. Didn't realize that Bishop Gorman's principal is an ND alum.

Would really love to maintain a pipeline here. Stanley, almost the molly kid, and Alize would be phenom. If you can't see the value in taking Nicco for both pipeline and Alize sake, I dunno what to tell you.

Unrelated to these two guys, but did anyone see the rumor that the BG coach may take the UNLV job? I asked the person that sent out the tweet if it would effect any of his current players and they didn't know. Apparently Mr. Fertitta is behind the hire.

I hadn't heard that but he's been getting a lot of good publicity so it wouldn't surprise me. With that said, I don't think it'd have an impact on this class but it could on future classes and BG is stacked in the coming years. FWIW, there is a fairly large pull at BG for ND.

Maybe Pops wants Lorenzo Jr to be able to transfer back home from 'Nova?
