I think Notre Dame is going to smoke them. ND's defense steps up in big games and I don't think ASU will be able to slow down Golson. It's gonna take a 4+ TO game for us to lose IMO.

Yes. I think ND is due for a statement game and this is it. ND wins impressively Saturday.

From Keith Arnold's recent article on Morgan's ascent:

As we’ve seen with this young defense, VanGorder has understood how to get the best out of young players. A converted wide receiver has emerged as a viable part of the starting lineup. Freshmen, mixed and matched along the defensive line. All easier tasks than finding a way to cover up the rough edges of a middle linebacker.

But expect VanGorder to do it anyway. With Smith next to him capable of serving as an eraser, Morgan can be the blunt instrument sent screaming into action. Where as Schmidt served as a technician, Morgan will be the opposite. Expect to see No. 5 crashing through the offensive line, sent after quarterback Taylor Kelly, not matched up in coverage with running back D.J. Foster.

I'll be interested to see what our base personnel looks like against ASU; particularly who's starting at SLB/NB. Farley is very disruptive at the LoS, but struggles in coverage. Butler's probably the opposite. Tranquill is somewhere in the middle.

Then again, I expected Farley to see a lot of reps against Navy, and he wasn't included in BvG's ill-fated 4-4 front.

Exactly what I said on sunday. Expect Morgan to be sent on a ton of blitzes. Low risk, high reward. Damn I'm good.

That's pretty similar to how Schmidt was used anyway. BvG had him playing down-hill and blitzing a lot of compensate for some his athletic deficiencies. He can do the same thing with Morgan, except that Morgan will be getting to the QB much faster. The only question then is who QBs the front-7 in Schmidt's absence. Hopefully Jaylon is ready.

I thought Joe was in coverage a fair amount. I don't expect Morgan to be much at all, unless it's a 1-1 situation. No sense in letting him figure out zone IMO.

But yeah, I'm excited to see them send him. He plays real quick. Real F'n quick.

Wonder if we see much of Butler? I'd imagine we'll be in our 4-2-5 Nickel for our base D. This seems like the type of game where JO just wont play. I know Farley has played well this season, but I still don't trust him in coverage still unless it's covering a RB out of the backfield.

That's going to be a major concern, since Foster catches a lot of passes for them. ASU doesn't have the depth at WR we do. The vast majority of their offense has been run through Strong and Foster this year. If we shut those guys down and pressure Kelly, ASU will be in for a very long day at the office. I could see Farley's skill-set being used to great effect against the Sun Devils.

IDK who Foster is, but they have a lot of 2 RB sets where immediately prior to the snap, they sprint out in motion to the flats. We haven't seen that this year.

My buddies and I will be wandering around looking for anyone wearing green. Sounds like lot 8 is a good option. May be too hot for my Leprechaun outfit but we'll see on that. We are all flying in from different cities this morning. Where's a good place to party Thursday and Friday night?

Tomorrow night you DEFINITELY want to go to Rockbar on Craftsman CT in Old Town Scottsdale. ND is officially sponsoring a block party there . Once that winds down, you can walk to 50 other clubs in the area. Dos Gringo's is just a few doors south and that is world class talent on a nightly basis. Hell, who am I kidding.... a Friday night in Old Town is like Vegas without the ugly people. Bring your A game and remember:

They skrong, so be skronger!

He's one of, if not THE best dual purpose back in college. Think Matt Forte or Thurmon Thomas type. He had 60 TD for my local high school his senior year.

When Devonte Neal signed with ND, my first response was we got the second best player available from Scottsdale... was I ever right.

How can someone comment on this game in any way without knowing who DJ Foster is? He is going to be a nightmare.

Sorry for not knowing who the #54 rusher in the country is.

I will not post in this thread since I am apparently unworthy to comment on it, lol.

Time to dogpile on Koon? Was that the signal? Should this be in italics? I'm confused!

In all fairness, Foster has run for 701 yds and 6 TDs this year, however 510 of those yards and 5 of the TDs came in the first 3 games against Colorado, Weber, and New Mexico.

His receiving skills pose a challenge, but against the 5 "real" teams on their schedule he has run for 191 yds on 66 carries - 2.9 ypc.

That's ok Koon... Typical midwest / eastcoast bias at play.

We are all guilty of it from time to time.

Wow. I was wondering why the guys on the radio were bagging on the staff about using DJ more. Every time I see ASU highlights, he's doing something, must all be through the air lately. He's a hell of a football player. If you put him in an ND jersey, he's an even better Theo Riddick.

LOL. Thanks man. My "A-Game" is long gone. I'm more suited to hang on the outskirts of the herd and spot the wounded Wildebeest and then attempt to separate her from the herd. Ha.

And don't worry... if Miss Right doesn't pop un the radar just wait till last call and go into Wildebeest-mode.

Have fun!

I wonder what that says about Folston (#96) and your boy Bryant (#337).

How would you feel about an Arizona St. fan predicting anything about this game without knowing who Will Fuller is?

I'd have no problem with it if they know their team as well as I know ND's.

Sorry I haven't watched ASU much this year and don't know the players names. I know about their QB, their stud WR, their struggling OL, and aggressive defense.

Don't see what the big deal is.

I didn't know who DJ Foster is. The name is recognizable but I wasn't aware he is that great. Hopefully he won't get much production against a good ND defense.

Named a preseason candidate for Walker Award (nation’s most outstanding running back), Maxwell Award (America's College Player of the Year), and the Hornung Award (nation's most versatile player) Watch Lists.

One of the team's top receivers.

Has ideal size, is well put together and looks to the naked eye to be more of a compact, agile athlete than he does a power back.

An all-around player who doesn't necessarily excel in one specific aspect of his game but does many things at a high level and is capable of playing within a variety of schemes.

Quick off the ball and a natural runner between the tackles.
Prefers to kick it outside and gain an edge on the defense to utilize his speed, but he can be productive inside and is a heavy runner who is tough to bring down.

Patient and has smooth footwork to be able to throttle down his speed and wait on blockers and plays to develop.
Junior (2014):

Had a three- touchdown performance against Weber State (8/28), where he compiled a then career-high 147 yards on the ground
Had the best came of his career against UNM (9/6), becoming the first Sun Devil to rush for over 200 yards since 2001 as he put up a career high 216 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with 54 receiving yards.
Accounted for over 200 yards of total offense against Colorado (9/13), finishing with 147 rushing yards and 59 receiving yards with a score via both methods
Limited in the running game against USC (10/4) but still finished with 73 receiving yards and a touchdown on five receptions
Led team Led team with seven receptions for 92 yards against Stanford (10/18) while adding 59 yards and a touchdown on the ground
Had 88 all-purpose yards against Washington (10/25), leading the team with four receptions for 52 yards
Had 53 rushing yards and 28 recieving yards against Utah (11/1)

It's not really a big deal. And I'm not picking on you. I just question our fan base's ability to make intelligent arguments about the quality of teams other than ND when they don't know who the: (a) #19 All Purpose yards player; (b) on a top ten team; (c) that we are literally playing this week, is.

I see people screaming that MSU is not as good as us but those same people can't name their running back. Just bothers me.

Well I'll rarely remember other team's player's names unless its a household and/or catchy name. I remember numbers more than names. I know #9 is another good back and I know #21's last name is Strong and he's a monster. I know their whole defense blitzes a lot and looks fast and I've seen them play, but I couldn't name a player on their team besides Taylor Kelly or Strong (21).

That doesn't exclude me from speaking intelligently about the matchup. Not trying to be a jerk, just saying.
