I think Notre Dame is going to smoke them. ND's defense steps up in big games and I don't think ASU will be able to slow down Golson. It's gonna take a 4+ TO game for us to lose IMO.
As we’ve seen with this young defense, VanGorder has understood how to get the best out of young players. A converted wide receiver has emerged as a viable part of the starting lineup. Freshmen, mixed and matched along the defensive line. All easier tasks than finding a way to cover up the rough edges of a middle linebacker.
But expect VanGorder to do it anyway. With Smith next to him capable of serving as an eraser, Morgan can be the blunt instrument sent screaming into action. Where as Schmidt served as a technician, Morgan will be the opposite. Expect to see No. 5 crashing through the offensive line, sent after quarterback Taylor Kelly, not matched up in coverage with running back D.J. Foster.
From Keith Arnold's recent article on Morgan's ascent:
I'll be interested to see what our base personnel looks like against ASU; particularly who's starting at SLB/NB. Farley is very disruptive at the LoS, but struggles in coverage. Butler's probably the opposite. Tranquill is somewhere in the middle.
Then again, I expected Farley to see a lot of reps against Navy, and he wasn't included in BvG's ill-fated 4-4 front.
Exactly what I said on sunday. Expect Morgan to be sent on a ton of blitzes. Low risk, high reward. Damn I'm good.
That's pretty similar to how Schmidt was used anyway. BvG had him playing down-hill and blitzing a lot of compensate for some his athletic deficiencies. He can do the same thing with Morgan, except that Morgan will be getting to the QB much faster. The only question then is who QBs the front-7 in Schmidt's absence. Hopefully Jaylon is ready.
Wonder if we see much of Butler? I'd imagine we'll be in our 4-2-5 Nickel for our base D. This seems like the type of game where JO just wont play. I know Farley has played well this season, but I still don't trust him in coverage still unless it's covering a RB out of the backfield.
That's going to be a major concern, since Foster catches a lot of passes for them. ASU doesn't have the depth at WR we do. The vast majority of their offense has been run through Strong and Foster this year. If we shut those guys down and pressure Kelly, ASU will be in for a very long day at the office. I could see Farley's skill-set being used to great effect against the Sun Devils.
My buddies and I will be wandering around looking for anyone wearing green. Sounds like lot 8 is a good option. May be too hot for my Leprechaun outfit but we'll see on that. We are all flying in from different cities this morning. Where's a good place to party Thursday and Friday night?
IDK who Foster is, but they have a lot of 2 RB sets where immediately prior to the snap, they sprint out in motion to the flats. We haven't seen that this year.

How can someone comment on this game in any way without knowing who DJ Foster is? He is going to be a nightmare.

Sorry for not knowing who the #54 rusher in the country is.
I will not post in this thread since I am apparently unworthy to comment on it, lol.

We may forgive you if you post the #53 rusher in the next 3 minutes...
In all fairness, Foster has run for 701 yds and 6 TDs this year, however 510 of those yards and 5 of the TDs came in the first 3 games against Colorado, Weber, and New Mexico.
His receiving skills pose a challenge, but against the 5 "real" teams on their schedule he has run for 191 yds on 66 carries - 2.9 ypc.
Tomorrow night you DEFINITELY want to go to Rockbar on Craftsman CT in Old Town Scottsdale. ND is officially sponsoring a block party there . Once that winds down, you can walk to 50 other clubs in the area. Dos Gringo's is just a few doors south and that is world class talent on a nightly basis. Hell, who am I kidding.... a Friday night in Old Town is like Vegas without the ugly people. Bring your A game and remember:
They skrong, so be skronger!
Terry Hannratty?
LOL. Thanks man. My "A-Game" is long gone. I'm more suited to hang on the outskirts of the herd and spot the wounded Wildebeest and then attempt to separate her from the herd. Ha.

I wonder what that says about Folston (#96) and your boy Bryant (#337).
How would you feel about an Arizona St. fan predicting anything about this game without knowing who Will Fuller is?
I'd have no problem with it if they know their team as well as I know ND's.
Sorry I haven't watched ASU much this year and don't know the players names. I know about their QB, their stud WR, their struggling OL, and aggressive defense.
Don't see what the big deal is.

It's not really a big deal. And I'm not picking on you. I just question our fan base's ability to make intelligent arguments about the quality of teams other than ND when they don't know who the: (a) #19 All Purpose yards player; (b) on a top ten team; (c) that we are literally playing this week, is.
I see people screaming that MSU is not as good as us but those same people can't name their running back. Just bothers me.
