For me Read Dead is maybe top five ever period for me.. maybe my top all time story based game... loved that game, there was SO MUCH to do that seemed worth the effort and time...

I'll def take Elder Scrolls over Fallout, by a lot... everyone's different.

Right now my main focus in life is getting my B25's built up to be the bane of my opponent's existence... (G-Father flew as a crew member on Mitchell's during the war so yeah)....

I've played a lot of fantasy genres growing up. While Elder Scrolls games are some of the best in that genre, it's a genre that has a lot of games in it. Fallout is fairly unique, or at least it was at the time. There's not many post nuclear RPGs, and certainly not many like Fallout. There were a number of features in the original Fallout games that influenced later Elder Scrolls games I think, one being the complex dialogue trees and being able to see NPC facial reactions to answers.

Sure, but could you get a hooker, use her services to health your HP, pay for said services, then as soon as she exits your vehicle, run her over with your car and take the money back????

Well, you CAN sleep with a hooker, spend the night in the "hotel" which would restore your HP, pay for said services in bottle caps, and then take the money back by reducing her to fine red chunks with a sub machine gun or melt her into a puddle of goo with a Plasma Rifle. You could also plant a live grenade on her body and watch the pieces fly. How's that?

I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoyed the Assassin's Creed series and/or the world of Lord of the Rings. It's the best of both. Plus, the way the game unfolds and the bosses pop up is way more versatile than anything I've ever seen, due to the Nemesis System. Very cool. Whenever you kill a high-ranking baddie, another, unique baddie takes his place and becomes more difficult to deal with.

The repetitive nature of the first AC was definitely a turnoff, especially after playing the later installments. That's not an issue with Shadow of Mordor so far. The mechanics and some of the gameplay ideas are similar, such as climbing a tower and "striking a forge" to unlock areas of the map, or finding items and dealing with "memories," but the stealth system is better IMO and there is a lot more versatility in combat as well, due to your character's "special powers."

To put it best, it seemed like much of the point of the earlier AC games was simply to climb and look at the awesome graphics and take in the view, and the stories were simply a part of that. So far in SoM, it's the other way around: the story and combat is cool, and the awesome mechanics (stealth, climbing) and settings are just a bonus.

AC Unity is about to come out. Its the first next gen AC game and the stealth mechanics are completely overhauled. Im sooooo fukin pumped for this game.

I am probably going to pick up this Shadow of Mordor game. It looks pretty awesome and I love LOTR. I'll probably wait until this winter tho.

I never got all that into the Fallout games.. another game that everyone seems to love that I'm just 'eh' on thus far is Last of Us... though I'm not that far into it just yet.

for a story based role playing game like Fallout... my fav. ever was Read Dead Redemption.
I'm not much of a gamer, usually picking up titles like Skyrim, Grand Theft Auto, and Assassin's Creed a year or two after they come out for cheap. A sequel to Red Dead would be one of a very few games that could get me onto a next gen console, along with Knights of the Old Republic 3 if they ever get around to it.

I missed out on the initial Knights of the Old Republic games. I would have loved to play them. The "past" of Star Wars always intrigued me.

I spent five hours on Wookiepedia reading about the beginnings of the Sith one day at work.

Maybe you should give it another chance. Fallout really is much like Skyrim, just with a post nuclear setting, a retro futuristic feeling, and a bit more humor. Oh, and you can listen to old timey tunes on a radio attached to your wrist. Like Skryim, it's best experienced on the PC where you can mod the hell out of it to add to the game once you've played through on vanilla once.

Love Wookiepedia. When I used to play SWG I'd spend a number of hours researching lesser known characters of the Star Wars universe as well as the histories of some of the starships. Used to love the TIE Advance/Avenger, the 2nd generation TIE modeled after Vader's ship in Episode IV:

Randomly picked up Assasin's Creed for $7 on the ps3 this weekend. Don't know anything about it, but I know it was a popular game.

After a while, it will feel a bit repetitive, but it's a very unique game so that's not a big deal, especially in how interesting the story is and how well they tie it in with actual history.

If you play through it and then pick up the second one, it will blow your mind hole. Maybe my favorite game ever. Some of the same repetitive stuff, but a way cooler map, more interesting story/missions, even more awesome history.

I strongly encourage you to finish the first one so you can get to the second one.

Should've gone with the second one. The first one is a bad game IMO and the overarching story of the series doesn't really matter or make any damn sense.

I would have boughted the 2nd one, but the gamestop guy told me that I needed to follow the story and begin with 1. IYO (starting this now - in your opinion) should I return this and start with #2?

I'd trade in for the second one. My opinion is that the individual game "in the past" stories are fine but the overarching "in the future" story is a mess, makes no sense, and is essentially a roadblock on fun. Play through the present day/future stuff as fast as you can just to get back to renessaince Italy. I think my opinion is the large majority. No one cares about the Templar/Assasin storyline but Ubisoft keeps shoehorning it in. The gems of the series are 2, Brotherhood, and Black Flag. Stay the hell away from 3. Terrible game.

You might as well be speaking Hebrew to me. IDK anything about the game, just happened to look around Gamestop, saw that a popular game was only $7 and bought it.

So I should return it for #2? I don't game a ton so I'm not going to go 1-6 or however many there are.

Tl;dr: Trade in and play number 2. If you like that, play Assassins Creed: Black Flag

I did, I was a sucker for any Star Wars flight sim games years ago. I still fire up TIE Fighter on my PC through DOSBox...so awesome.

Currently playing a new Alpha release game called Life is Feudal. It's a survival sandbox type game similar to Minecraft or Rust, but it's in a medieval backdrop with no magic or anything, more realistic. Weapons include bows, swords, polearms, unarmed, spears, etc. You can terraform the land, mine, experiment with herb combinations ala Elder Scrolls. You can build all kinds of walls for a settlement, as well as all kinds of houses, city buildings, keeps, etc.

It's rather hard to achieve anything in the game by yourself, unlike some other survival type MMOs. It takes a large amount of resources to make some of the larger structures, so teamwork is very helpful. In some respects the game is much more slow paced as well. When you terraform the ground, you don't remove a whole square block of dirt at a time ala Minecraft, you only remove a few inches off the top instead. You can only carry so much on you at a time too, so after digging up so much dirt or other materials you have to find a location to dump it off.

It's been a pretty fun game so far. I tried running solo for awhile, but it really was difficult to get anything done. I joined a server with some old gaming buddies though, and we've got a nice little settlement going. There's a faction of "bandit" players on our server that have tried attacking us a few times, but lately we've gotten good enough that we've been able to turn them away. Adds an element of excitement and strategy, keeps you on edge waiting for an attack to occur, and it forces you to find ways to hide your goods.

The game is very much driven by player created items, there are no pre-existing towns or NPCs to buy anything off of. You start with nothing essentially and create everything you own. Characters are given a pool of skill points to use however they wish, but most servers give each player a fixed number of skill points, so it forces you to specialize in just a few areas to help your settlement: blacksmithing, bowcraft, mining, leatherworking, herbalism, healing, hunting, farming, masonry, carpentry, construction, siege engines (coming soon), horse breeder (coming soon), etc. It gives each player a designated role in the town with responsibilities and ways to contribute.

Can confirm brotherhood is solid but 2 and Black Flag are the cream of the crop IMO.

AC2 was incredible. I was hooked after the first "Assassin's Tomb" mission in the Duomo.

Also, the Hieroglyphs were pretty sweet. The right balance between "busy work" and "unlocking a cool mystery."

I haven't played III or Black Flag yet.

AC3 was a bit over ambitious. I enjoyed the maps but the story had some holes in it, which really, really bothered me.

AC4 BF was a great turnaround from AC3.

And this next game, AC UNITY is going to break the bank i think. It look soooo amazing. I'm not going to be doing anything for a long time when that game comes out.

Last night I went to gamestop and returned Assasin's Creed for AC2. When I picked AC2 off of the shelf, I didn't look at the price tag like a boss, so when I got to the register I asked the guy "so I just pay the difference?".

And he goes "actually, I owe you. The first one is more expensive because most people want to learn the whole story".

I immediately felt like I lost my gaming card. SMH at me.

Don't. Watch a 60 second YouTube video explaining the story. There you go. You just got a much better game for free.

Black flag is just fun because you get to sail around and be a pirate. See a convoy that has a lot of rum and sugar? Time to board that bitch. Plus the ship combat is amazing. The worst parts of the game are the normal "assassins-creedy" parts like tediously being "stealthy" to listen to conversations you really don't care about.

If Ubisoft made a next generation pure pirate game where it was just you pillaging and no assassins creed stuff, I'd be all over it.
