ESPN highlights of the Michigan Utah game showed a play of the Utah QB getting sacked and the UM defender then doing a victory dance and drawing a flag. The camera then cut to Hoke getting into Mattison's face about his player's flag. Mattison appeared to give as good as he got. Hoke continued to jaw as he walked away.
Holtz commented that defense isn't the problem at UM. "I know Mattison, he's a fine defensive coach. Holtz then noted that Hoke was a 5 win a year coach at Ball St until he got a franchise QB and had one 12 win season which got him the San Diego job. Two years at SDS averaging 6 wins got him the UM gig.
May rebuffed the BS and SDS experience and stressed that Hoke's record at UM is all that matters. "Hoke won 11 games with Rodriguez's players the first year, then 8, then 7. This year he'll probably be 6-6."

I'm hoping for Hoke to find some of that silver lining and beat PSU, MSU and OSU while losing 2 or 3 times to the rest. Enough to build our edge in the Winningest Percentage Battle while retaining his job and continued 0.540 performance.

ND had 14 years of Davie, Willingham, and Weis going 91-68, .572 over the 14 years from '97-'09.
UM is only in their 7th year of RRod and Hoke, going 43-37, 0.538.
We need 7 more years of Hoke or someone like him.

Even Nuss can't fix their mess of an offense. What was he thinking signing on with that sinking ship?

I'm not sure, but if he's trying to rebuild that offense he may not get enough time to do it. At the rate Hoke is going he'll be canned before the end of the year and Mattison will be interim coach to finish the season until they find a new candidate.

Agree... Hoke may be a great recruiter but his talent development is horrendous. Is it too late for Peppers to switch to my Tide? LOL
Hope Nuss makes it through. While not a great OC, he still is a good one. Hate seeing him have to go through that mess.

Big Al has the build. The chemistry would be off the charts but the food bill would be as well.
Al might have some trouble adjusting to the weather but who knows maybe he'd fall in love with ice fishing.

I wonder how much of a hands on coach Hoke is? After BK's first season, he became more hands on. A team needs to see and hear their leader if he wants them to buy into his program. Maybe that's why he gets recruits, but the program has languished.

What are we rooting for? Thinking that end of season would make their search more desperate, but mid season is a good way to show they're not afraid to embarrass a coach, which should interest potential hires.
