Or the guys that can't get into ND, even with football on their side, are that bad at academics. ND does draw the line at some point.

What exactly do some of you think Swarbrick should be doing? This is directed at those that aren't happy with him.

Going on Mike and Mike and blaming Barack Obama for failing to anticipate this and that it's a sure sign that radical Islam is taking over college football.

No...NO...thats crazy talk.

He should be interviewing Hillary staffers to determine what level of commendation they should receive for helping congress manage their workload when they thoughtfully held back insignificant documents related to Benghazi...

In fact that sentiment seems pervasive among all the appointees of Mr Obama, and Jack likes to recognize such selflessness...ya know...what would you fight for and all...

Yeah...I think you're kind of off base here with your logic. If he's serious about the future of all Golden Domers past and present he should evoke the spirit of Glasnost and use a relay to a glonass satellite to ask Putin to weigh in on this. That way we have a coalition. Then he should get the Pentagon to authorize a coalition backed Shamrock Series drone to launch a tactical nuke at Brady Hoke's fat ass so as to free up more food stuffs for millions of starving Africans.

Can someone please forward this to tootdady and ask him to weigh in on this train of thought via twitter?

Maybe ND is breaking new grounds with an extra year of eligibility based on internal incompetence? Lol.

That would be a fun argument to make to the NCAA...haha. We would like a redshirt on the grounds of our stupidity. Priceless.

Actually not new ground at all. Duke did exactly this after the lacrosse rape fiasco years ago where they summarily fired everyone and cancelled the season even though NO ONE DID ANYTHING WRONG.

Then they petitioned the NCAA all like "so we fucked up... can we get an extra year for every player?" And it actually worked. They got an extra year of eligibility for all their players and played the next 4 seasons with an extra class of players in school and its 85% of the reason they've won championships. They just very recently returned to "normal" roster levels.

Is there an anti-thread of the year award? Because I hate this thread. I hate how long it has existed.

I actually love this thread. It is everything. It contains multitudes. May it live far beyond the end of this investigation.
Just can we please not make it about politics?

Swarbrick is doing what he should be doing, keeping quiet and let the academic part of the school do their job... very slowly.

They're not, and many/most wouldn't be able to get in "without football" (let alone warrant a full-ride scholarship on academic merit).
Minor point of clarification. Notre Dame doesn't give ANY scholarships based on academic merit. Their financial aid packages are 100% need based. A poor football player would likely get a full ride if admitted, while someone like Corey Robinson would not.

Agree..........We have know idea what Swarbrick is doing when it comes to this investigation, but I would be willing to bet that he's just not sitting around waiting. Besides Koons, does anyone think he should be giving the fan base updates? Given his legal background, I would guess he has a very clear understanding of the process, who's involved and is being kept in the loop. It would not surprise me if he has not shared much with BK which is understandable.

I never said nor do I think he should be giving fans updates. But he fights for the athletic department, so he has a significant stake in this and I hope he's in the admin's ear every morning.

Just because it's an academic issue and theres to handle, doesn't mean Jack can't or won't be persistent about getting it resolved ASAP.

Don't agree at all. Swarbrick should be acting as a liaison between both parties trying to at the very least provide a hard update for the student and their parents. He has done nothing but rub elbows with Jenkins in Indianapolis while he should have been pressing him for answers.

I'm sure you were right there at every dinner, car ride, and elevator conversation between the two of them to report back so eloquently on the details of what they did or did not discuss.

I just read an old 2008 post. Was wondering what the actual academic requirements are for ND football players. I was wondering how tough it really is for Notre Dame to recruit top athletes/students. If true, pretty dismal stats posted, example ACT scores 18-22. These guys mentioned except one would have essentially zero chance of getting into ND without football. To go around preaching we cant recruit so and so compared to other schools seems like BS. If the scores listed are true it is a joke on the part of Notre Dame to preach how they take great students. No wonder some in academics and admissions probably are not connected with the football program.

The problem is not in getting athletes in to Notre Dame. The problem is in convincing a top athlete to spend the next four(or more) years working as hard in the classroom as he does on the field. Especially when other programs are telling him all about their "sports majors", which are so ridiculously easy that the player will have all the time in the world to focus on achieving their dream of playing in the NFL. THAT is where the commitment to academics really puts ND at a disadvantage. There are obviously some kids who are not bothered by it, but I would submit that those kids are in a very small minority.

Don't forget like A&M does. "You know we offer all the classes online. That's what Johnny did, did you know they don't even know who's behind the keyboard?" <wink wink>

You think if there was anything productive coming from those conversations, this would still be dragging on? If there was a true working relationship between them, this would have been resolved.

I agree with Wizard. We have no idea how involved Swarbrick is in this matter, but I bet he is intimately involved. He's an attorney, he's not going to speak until the end. Besides, nobody is going to be doing anything about this on a Saturday night, so he might as well rub elbows with Jenkins at LOS.

Honesty Committee hearings have a defined procedure that has absolutely nothing to do with the Athletic Director or University President. I agree that it's taking too long at this point but the people you should be complaining about are the course professor, the college dean, and the chair of the committee.

In fairness, I have been...ha. At the same time, those professors, deans, and committee members are all under the umbrella of the Provost who reports to the President. There is one call that can be made which goes, "when is the hearing going to take place?" Get the answer then provide it to Swarbrick who can provide it to Daniels, et al. That should be the least that the relationship between Jenkins and Swarbrick should be doing right now.

Or I am missing something here?

Not to sound like a dick because I am not trying to but I think you are.

I think if Jack could find out then he would, same for BK. I just don't think ANYBODY knows.

Whatever happens, since they're so persistent in following the code procedures, they should change the part where they do nothing for the first 3 weeks after the investigation is complete.
