I personally think we should take KJ now if he's ready to commit. Quit playing the QB shuffle and take a kid with some skill, even if he's not high on our board. It's not a huge need and if the kid wants to be here, then grab him and move those efforts to other position needs.

This has been a pretty annoying recruiting cycle.
A 2016 QB is definitely a need if we don't take one this year.

If he was a 2015 QB he would probably be committed already.

At this point a 2016 QB might be one of the biggest program needs in general. That is, like you stated, if we don't take one this year.

I haven't seen any indication that this would be the case.

I'm retarded, fellas. Work ended early today and i'm in full buzz mode. Forgot KJ was a '16, not a '15. Dumbass comment by me.

I don't think you pass on Costello because yo want someone more. Henry might be the perfect fit like Kyler Murray would have been.... but a local USC guy compared Costello to Troy Aikman. By 2017 or 18, I'll be ready for a traditional pocket passer again.

Besides... Bellichek will have retired by then and BK will be on his way back to Boston for his next challenge.

USC offered.

I'd expect him to be a Trojan unless maybe Stanford offers.

Admitted that it seems to change everyday but if he had to name a top 5 right now it would be Bama, USC, Michigan, FSU, and Stanford. Call Stanford an early favorite. Mom is a USC alum.

I heard uSC is out after Darnold committed. He'd be coming in right behind to top 10 QBs. Plus what's already there...

I hear it's gonna be Stanford with ND the only other option. FSU and Bama are window dressing to make the list look good. Michigan... I have no idea about their chances but why would he go there and not play in Cali every year like the Irish.... I mean, the skunks can't even get to Pasadena for a bowl game...

Well somebody should let KJ know because he said differently and that it didn't matter.

USC is not out at all. He comes from a huge USC family and they are strong, strong contenders for him. Just looked....here's just one glowing quote from him:

"I've been watching USC games since I was little, and I've always dreamed of this. I never knew it t close to home and going to USC, but she's been really respectable throughout this process."

Though Costello's mother is a USC alumna, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound prospect said he feels no added pressure at home.

"My mom, I don't think she's ever been happier," Costello said. "But she understands the pressure that has been put on me and she won't add any extra pressure to that. Ultimately she wants me to make a decision that will be best for me. She wouldn't mind me staying close to home and going to USC, but she's been really respectable throughout this process."

Not sure where you got your info and I'm not meaning to come down on you at all...just saying, everything I've ever heard from this kid since I've followed his recruitment has been that USC would be near impossible to beat. That stance may have softened, but no way are they out of it. Still clearly in the driver's seat IMO.

Sorry Lucky.... I didn't press send to my follow up. Lol

I saw your comment in the other thread and was like.... Huh?

I see a guy who's a Trinity League official at BWW. He seems to know a lot about what's going on here in OC. In regards to Costello, he says he is Troy Aikman physically... Darnold he says is the best physically... Compared him to Jay Cutler. He said that the backlog at USC will push him elsewhere from what he's heard. He's a USC grad too BTW. May be true or not true. It he also told me that ESB is a lock for the Irish.. So we shall see.

Didn't see anything regarding this here on IE so I wanted it in writing for all to enjoy:

Last weekend, Santa Margarita Catholic played Corona Santiago and beat them 56-27.

Costello was 25-34 for 411 yds, 4 TD's & 1 Int

Barnett's line 17-37 for 158 yds, 1 TD & 2 Int's

Costello and SMC travel to Vegas to play Bishop Gorman and Nicco Fertitta this Friday. Probably a national game on ESPN.

In the defense of Barnetts statline - thats like Rice playing Notre Dame. No matter what Barnett did they were going to lose. Severe difference in talent and coaching staffs.

Santa Margarita, Servite, St. John Boscoe, Mater Dei shouldnt be playing teams like Santiago to be frank.

Don't feel sorry for Corona Santiago, they have 4,000+ students. Conference mate Corona Centennial is always a top program in the state so there is plenty of football being played in Corona. Centennial beat Trinity member Orange Lutheran and only lost to Bishop Gorman by one.

Now, I know that SMC was favored to win. It was Barnett's stat line that I wanted to showcase more than the score or Costello's stat line for that matter.

Correct I get that, but you cant take much away from that statline bc Barnett has zero D1 talent on his team, while Costellos team is quite a bit more talented. Barnetts going to struggle if his guys cant get open or block the opposition. I was actually surprised his numbers were that good.

I see where you are going. Just because you have 4000 students doesn't mean you have 22 football players but SMC shouldn't be looked down upon for scheduling a large school, especially one with a top 5 QB on it. The Trinity League doesn't have many members, so they have to play a lot of non conference games. SMC doesn't play other large public schools nearby that they draw from like, Mission Viejo, El Toro, Tessoro and Trabuco Hills, where they play home games.

I was surprised that he was unable to create anything with his feet. There wasn't anything he did last Friday that would have made you think he was one of the top QB's in the country. I'm going to go to the Centennial game in a few weeks to see if he fairs any better.

...and btw, I could see Santiago's RB playing DI. He had 3 TD's. Not saying he is going to a Power 5 but someone told me he went for over 100 the week before and that he's only a Jr, maybe even a soph. Besides that, nothing stood out.

One interesting thing about that game and talking to SMC fans... they PROMISED that Ryan Kilander is going to contribute to ND before he leaves. With Joe Schmidt starring as a walk on from the Trinity League, who can argue.

No I get your point too. I was more Public vs Private angle haha. There was a siginificant talent gap between the two teams. I didnt expect Blake to be able to get any time to throw much less run. His Oline has gotten torn up against good teams.

Mason Hale is his RB but is like 5'6 165 pounds. Hes fast, but hes not a D1 or D2 talent.

He can't be 5-6. I looked him up and they are calling him 5-10 which means he's closer to 5-8 with time to grow. By my eye I would have called him 5-9, 175. Yes, he is fast. If he's D3 talent then there is no talent on SMC's D and then we start the argument about who SMC should be playing all over again.

Are you out here in CA or just watching tapes? The schedule every Friday here in OC is absolutely ridiculous.

This weekend it's Ricky Town and Daelin Hayes in town to play another Top 10, Trinity League team: JSerra. Then home to watch SMC and BG on DVR.

Nope in Ohio where the big boys play. ;) haha.

But no, I think you have the Public vs Private debate in most football rich states minus Florida/Texas. But in Cali/Ohio its a hot debate on either end.

As for Hale, I have a solid guy on the ground affiliated with Santiago that speaks highly of him, but not high college level talent.

I don't think there is much debate in Cali. It's De la Salle, Alemany, Bosco or Mater Dei up top with Poly and Westlake joining 5 more Catholic schools for the next tier.

Ohio's has had Edward's, Ignatius, Elder, Moeller and Xavier since my days in Oxford back in the 80's. Don't know who the public powers are now a days, back in my day they were Massilon, Canton McKinley, Mansfield. 3/4 of our team at Miami were from those 7 schools. I should add... Ginn Sr. has had Glenville going recently.

Florida has a bunch of talented private schools too. Aquinas turns out D1's like a Trinity League team.

Texas? Yep, Pretty much the only Catholic school I can think of is Bishop Dunne.

Not to be a cotton headed ninny muggins, but so what? He is probably a Stanford lock, with no ND offer.

The game I had circled on my calendar for this HS season I have to miss because I have to drive back to Phoenix tonight to see the Irish tomorrow.

KJ Costello vs Josh Rosen. OC football is sick.

I just posted this in Malik Henry's thread but it belongs here too:

Henry going to FSU might have started something else in motion. (???)

I was out boozing with the local high school experts in Orange Co last night and was directed to look up something on line.

About the same time the Henry - ND love affair started to cool, a BETTER QB from the class of '16 started following Chris Brown, Everett Golson, Malik Zaire, Tori Hunter Jr and Jaylon Smith on Twitter.

Wouldn't it be ironic if after 3 LA/IE/OC QB's who were ND leans went elsewhere in the past year that one who never was went Irish? Especially after he had Touchdown Jesus as his Twitter header for the longest time.

KJ Costello, if you are reading this... YES, ND would love to have you!
