Alize Jones would be a great pickup, so it doesn't matter. We always have openings at the end of the year and this won't be any different. We've lost Kinlaw, Springman, Mahone and possibly players in the investigation (although it looks like the older players would've graduated anyway) since the spring.

We are talking about the #1 TE in the country, we like to point to a long line of successful TEs here and with good reason, but the consensus #1 player at a position is always an amazing pickup. When was the last time we took a consensus #1 player at any position? Clausen? Te'o?

I think Jaylon was #2 or 3. I don't mean to be nitpicking but it's been exceedingly difficult for us to pull top 5 talent to South Bend so if Alize considered ND and made a switch, we'd be extremely fortunate to have him.

And if Nico had a hand in it, then we should be really grateful for a player who cares about recruiting the best talent to ND.

Exactly, thanks for the correction. He was a consensus top 5 player, as was Te'o, as was Clausen. With Clausen and Jaylon possibly being the only consensus #1 player we've grabbed.

All three were amazing talents and players we will continuously talk about (if Jaylon considers his ascension).

Alize would be an amazing pickup for this team. We don't know what we have with the rest of our young guys, we hope Smythe is legit. We hope Luatua can mandhanle people but Alize is a premier talent.

I really like him but Smythe is the next big thing at TE and he'll be an every down player for at least a couple years. The. Luatua seems to have locked down the Hback role. So I think he'll have a chance for snaps but I don't think it will be at a rate of Day, Smith, Lynch, etc.

I didn't see this when I posed above. I give 0% chance that Alize would be able to beat out Smythe for the #1 TE spot if he were to come to ND. Could it be a Niklas/Koyack situation maybe but Smythe is the every down player. Kelly and staff love Smythe.

Don't sleep on Weishar either. He's probably the best TE from a pure-receiving standpoint that we've brought in since Eifert.

Yea, there are many hurdles for incoming TE's. Love building depth but I'm not sure this is a position where an incoming freshman will get a lot of run time

I think we will see more 21 sets with a TE and H-back but still that's Luatua, Smythe, Weishar and Huerman. I think out of all of those Huerman will end up buried if Alize joins. Still I dot see him pushing out the other three as a freshman for the majority of snaps.
