I have a seven year old son, so it should be no surprise that I've been playing Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U constantly for the past two months.

It's a fun game, though. As someone who grew up during the Super Mario peak of the early to mid 90's, all the video games I ever really enjoy are the Super Mario Bros games. My Super Nintendo still works and I still have it hooked up and play it to this day. I'll be pretty heartbroken when it finally breaks down some day...

Yeah, I'm in this exact same boat.

I only play MK8 and Super Nintendo.

I am buying mine tomorrow. Going to grab Madden with it and then the new Assassins Creed and Dragon Age when they come out. Hope my wife doesn't shoot me.

I like the look of the Destiny package PS4. The white looks nice.

Waiting to get the Master Chief Collection and LOTR The Shadow of Mordor in November for my XBox One. I'll be in nerd heaven for at least two months.

I have a PS4 and I am loving it:
Watch Dogs, Killzone, and Infamous were great.
About to get Destiny.
The seamless online integration for Watch Dogs is new and definitely changes things up. I believe for the better. It does not annoy you, but it changes things up quickly and makes you think differently since you are playing another human and not an AI.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Picked it up yesterday and to be honest, after the first 15 mins, I didn't think I would be able to get into it, which was a huge bummer. I love the LotR lore, the history, the world itself. Huge nerd stuff. Tolkien's "Silmarillion" is my favorite book, which would basically be the Bible to the characters of LotR. I love the creation myths, hearing about the bad guys that were way worse than Sauron, etc.

I struggled with the mechanics and felt overwhelmed at all of the tutorials they throw at you right off the bat. Without spoilers, after a few "intro" missions to get the basic combat and stealth controls down, they throw you into the middle of Mordor and turn you loose. I got flustered because I'm OCD, and here I am, just dropped literally into the middle of the Dark Lord's realm with no idea where to start, really.

I put it on pause for a minute to let the dog out, and came back thinking I would find a place to save my progress and give it another try today.

Well, I started to figure the mechanics out, and then started to figure out how to navigate the world without starting a 10-on-1 fight every 50 yards, and before I knew it, I had played for three hours without realizing it.

It's like Assassin's Creed, but set in one of the most secretive, mythical places in my favorite fictional world. Reading the books, I was always intrigue by the "secrets" of Mordor and the horrors within that you never actually got to hear much about... and now I get to run around that very place, using stealth or going in guns blazing, offing Uruks as I see fit.

Awesome game.

TL;DR At first I was worried I wouldn't like it, then it was the tits and I played for three hours without realizing it.

Awesome game.

That's exactly what I saw when the first trailer was released. So you'd recommend it? Is it only new gen consoles?

I was interested in checking that Shadow of Mordor out. I really liked the first Assassin's Creed at first, but I felt it got a bit repetitive. Felt like I spent half the game just climbing and climbing. I did like the stealth component though, reminded me of the old Thief game or playing a rogue like in Elder Scrolls.

Wasteland 2 came out recently, I'm really thinking about getting it if I've got some extra cash here after an expensive August. Anyone that's played the original Fallout games would probably enjoy Wasteland 2. Those first Fallout games were based on Wasteland and Wasteland 2 is made by some of the same people that worked on those games.

I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoyed the Assassin's Creed series and/or the world of Lord of the Rings. It's the best of both. Plus, the way the game unfolds and the bosses pop up is way more versatile than anything I've ever seen, due to the Nemesis System. Very cool. Whenever you kill a high-ranking baddie, another, unique baddie takes his place and becomes more difficult to deal with.

The repetitive nature of the first AC was definitely a turnoff, especially after playing the later installments. That's not an issue with Shadow of Mordor so far. The mechanics and some of the gameplay ideas are similar, such as climbing a tower and "striking a forge" to unlock areas of the map, or finding items and dealing with "memories," but the stealth system is better IMO and there is a lot more versatility in combat as well, due to your character's "special powers."

To put it best, it seemed like much of the point of the earlier AC games was simply to climb and look at the awesome graphics and take in the view, and the stories were simply a part of that. So far in SoM, it's the other way around: the story and combat is cool, and the awesome mechanics (stealth, climbing) and settings are just a bonus.

I had played Watch Dogs, the first open world game I've completed at pretty much 100%. Loved it, but it could get repetitive. Like someone said before, I did really enjoy the seamless transition to online if you got hacked or traced. It was very well integrated. Would love to see another Watch Dogs in another city with some more variety built in. (It's possible since the Blume Company did expand cTOS into other major cities)

I just purchased FIFA 15, and am enjoying it. Always love FIFA.

I never got all that into the Fallout games.. another game that everyone seems to love that I'm just 'eh' on thus far is Last of Us... though I'm not that far into it just yet.

for a story based role playing game like Fallout... my fav. ever was Read Dead Redemption.

The older Fallout games were a bit better than the newer ones imo. The newer ones lacked a certain humor and style that gave the old ones their charm. All good games though, I play them more than Bethesda's Elder Scrolls games.

Red Dead Redemption was excellent, better than Grand Theft Auto. There's something about catching a wild horse and taming it as your own, very cool. Better than spending fake cash on a knockoff Porsche or stealing a vehicle in GTA. I like how the music was very much inspired by the spaghetti westerns of Ennio Morricone. Just a great game, has to be in my Top 5 for the PS3.
