Bells Mars. It's a double IPA that's strong (10.1abv) but smooth. Good beer.
I'm gonna have to give away my half full bottle of Talisker 18, simply because I can't bring myself to drain pour a $150 bottle of Scotch. Keep coming back to it hoping that I'll have some sort of epiphany, but I couldn't even finish my most recent dram. Oily, salty ash... blech.
I've been on a big "bourbon with extra finishing" kick recently. Maker's 46 is superb; really emphasizes my favorite bourbon notes--barrel-derived caramels and vanillas. Drinking one neat as I type this.
Had Angel's Envy recently too, which I really liked. I'm a big fan of the Old Fashioned, and the port-barrel-finishing on AE imparts enough fruity sweetness that it's almost like an Old Fashioned in a bottle.
Speaking of bottled mixed drinks, a couple buddies and I ordered a 5L charred white oak barrel. Filled it with the following on Saturday during half-time:
Gonna give it a month in the fresh barrel. Should be ready for bottling during the Syracuse game.
Tried Old Chub Nitro last night, and loved it. It's amazing how much smoothness and body nitrogenation adds.
How does the Maximus contrast with the standard IPA by Lagunitas?
Are you having it as your first pour of the night? last pour? always having it after the same whisky?
Usually first dram of the night. Figure one should come to such an expensive bottle with a clean palette.
I'll readily admit that the problem likely lies with me. I have absolutely no taste for smoke. Even a hint of peat is enough to turn me off. I've enjoyed some of soft and unpeated Scotches (like Glenlivet Nadurra, etc.), but I just couldn't bring myself to appreciate Talisker 18.

Sailor and blueberry lemonade...
Try Peat Monster and mix a vermouth heavy manhattan with it. This is how I got into Peat flavor. Tastes like a campfire in a good way.

Did you ever try the Lagunitas Little Sumpin Extra?
This thread hasn't been popping up on the Front Page for me recently when something new gets posted. Anyone else having a similar issue?
Lounge threads don't show up on the front page anymore. You have to go to "New Posts" to see it. Pham did this because you can cuss in the Lounge and he didn't want the threads to pop up on the front page.
Speaking of campfire. I really want to try the High West Campfire (a mix of peated scotch, bourbon and rye).
Though I will say that the way I got into peat was by drinking a bottle of HP 12 and then some Lagavulin 16. HP 12 has a nice heather/peat/honey combo that is a nice introduction then I had my mind blown by the Lagavulin.
Found a 12 pack of Ranger IPA in the garage fridge from last Saturday. Dunno who brought it, but I'm having it now. Saving the good stuff for tomorrow.
