His school / coach doesn't allow in-season recruiting visits. Same thing with Terrence Alexander last year. This isn't surprising.

yeah well its his HC who doesn't permit it cos he is a total hardass. I think Bo was trying to petition him to allow him to make the visit but it looks like this was denied.

this was true, he had posted a couple of weeks ago about trying to official and said it was up to his coach...

How does his coach have any say in what this kid does on a Saturday?

He can ruin a kid by kicking off the team of benching him for breaking team rules. Although in theory you are totally correct. Personally, I'd be petitioning the school admin about how you cannot possibly make an informed decision with the rules that are currently in place. The coach may be good, but he could be hurting the players' future.

The coach, J.T. Curtis, is also the headmaster of the school, and the school, John Curtis Christian High School, was created by his father in the early 60's and has basically been the family business for the past 50+ years with at least 13 Curtis' working at the school today. The point is, they ARE the school admin and Wallace's petition was denied.

And J.T. Curtis is one of the good guys in HS recruiting. His rules are in place mostly to manage the circus that has become HS football recruiting. Does his "no visit in-season" rule seem like a hardo move to some outsiders? Maybe, but I don't think he's hurting anyone's future by not letting them travel around the country during the season. There's plenty of time before and/or after the season to gather the info needed to make an informed college decision.

I would have to assume a simple lawyer phone call would stop any bs from coach. By the time anything would be settled, hed be graduated and it wouldn't matter. Stopping rcting at school I can see, stopping kids from doing non illegal things on own time. No way that can have legal ground right?

Saturdays are film day. Now maybe most schools would make an exception for a kid to go visit, but some of these schools play for NATIONAL championships. The players are practically playing in college.

alot of schools play on saturdays too instead of friday nights and then other more academically minded schools will even practice on sundays to give student athletes a practice free day on monday to catch up on schoolwork/study.

My school had mandatory running, lifting and film sessions on Saturday mornings that often went into the early afternoon.

Getting out of films between 12-1pm wouldn't have allowed me much travel time to make a college visit. If I was a college recruit, I would be upset if I couldn't swing it because my coach wouldn't make an exception... but I also can't fault the coach for wanting his players accounted for on film day.

they play 1 saturday game, the rest are friday's except for 1 thursday night game...but yes you are correct in a lot of the teams that play national schedules

I don't see anything illegal happening here. If you don't like their rules (ie don't miss Saturday's practice), then don't go to school there.

Doesn't Don Bosco have a similar rule?

I wonder how much LSU encourages his coach to have this rule. It makes visits out-of-state MUCH more difficult.

one of the way they get away w/ this is that it is a private high school...same as bosco...they can create their own rules

Not just that, but especially for a Southern kid, a visit to Indiana in mid-September is much more appealing than a visit in January.

I believe that the in state schools are included in this as well. I could be wrong, but I don't think the coach allows ANY recruiting visits during their season.

yup!

Malachi Dupre’s journey began with an official visit to LSU on Jan. 17.

Expanded ‘dead period’ puts rush on recruiting | LSU | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, Louisiana

its funny as heck though Curtis is bagging on the process saying its madness for kids to have to travel all over the country in a few weeks with their parents making official visits, this is because you ban them from going on visits during the season you douche!

My QB in HS (now RB for green bay) was being recruited by Pitt and we only had one Saturday game for the season. He wanted to visit because Pitt told him it would be the best time and the rest of the weekends were "full" until December. My coach obviously didn't want his starting QB to miss a game. But he decided to visit anyways at the last minute and stuck us in a difficult predicament. Whose fault is it? The school for throwing red carpets and enticing him to come that very weekend or the kid who is obviously going to play football for free and needed to explore several colleges? Thankfully we won that week despite missing our starting QB

Rules are in place for good reasons, otherwise you're letting universities potentially have all the power and naive high school kids falling for every pitch

J.T. doesn't let his players visit schools during season and get distracted by recruiting during the season. They also are an amazing team every single season.

Those two things are probably related to one another.
