I get it... You can't teach what he's doing right now. That's natural instinct. He's going to be fine. Lower the pad level and drive through.

Love it. Although instead of kickoff or third down I think it would be awesome to do it between the 3rd and 4th quarters similar to how Wisconsin does Jump Around. I think it would pump the players up for the final run.

I think either before the team takes the field or during kickoff, they need to play Rusty Cage by Soundgarden. That has the perfect beginning of a song for the beginning of something. It's like a rooster crowing in the morning and then the rooster explodes!

Schmidt missed a few tackles from what a saw. He slowed the runner up and the troops cleaned up, but he did not put the ball carrier on the ground.

He had a string of those, but also showed times where he almost knocked the runners head off. I also like that the other defenders are so quick to the ball. Unlike most years before, we have a very athletic and active defense. A lot of swarmers.

Also, did Councell play on Saturday? Or did they keep him out due to his previous concussion.

you could say the same about any MLB though, if you ever watched Ray Lewis the season before the Ravens drafted Haloti Ngata you would see he was getting rag dolled around the place by Olinemen it was embarrassing for him.

By the way, the other thing I liked and appreciated more after rewatching the Rice game was the announcers. I take it that others concur, because I saw no Hammond comments. Mayock was much more bearable, and as insightful as ever. Had much better chemistry with Hicks, let alone his outstanding chemistry with Doug Flutie.

Flutie is great for the broadcast, because he is self-effacing. Which is a positive, and complementary to ND fans. He says he was expecting to end up at UNH, and that BC was a last minute, luck out on his part. Thereby he doesn't have to explain cross-loyalties. His understanding of EG is a centerpiece for the broadcast team this year, and makes for good conversation.

And the sideline replacement for Alex, is a hard worker, does her job well, and obviously has already established a rapport with Kelly and the ND staff.

He played a lights-out game. What looked like panic from my seats in the northeast corner turned out to be composed maneuvering as witnessed in 1080i resolution.

I've come before you this Tuesday morning to eat my due crow. I finally got to watch the game on TV after having been in the stadium on Saturday, and I was completely wrong about Golson. He played a lights-out game. What looked like panic from my seats in the northeast corner turned out to be composed maneuvering as witnessed in 1080i resolution.

You know, I talked to several NFL scouts and they're really high on this kid. She wasn't highly recruited out of high school and really came in with a chip on her shoulder. At 5'8", 135 lbs, she doesn't have the raw power of some of the other reporters on the field, but she makes up for it with hustle and a really fantastic football IQ.

Were you in the stadium? There was a VERY anti-Golson vibe in my section and the sections around me. I'm not the only one who wasn't immediately impressed. There were "put in Malik" and "you suck, Golson" shouts* pretty much from the first quarter through halftime. One of the benefits of being in the stadium versus watching on TV is your view of the entire field versus just where the camera focuses. There were a number of times watching live where there were open receivers down the field that he just didn't see. The stadium can see "HOLY SH*T, AMIR IS WIDE OPEN," but it's hard to watch open receivers and the situation in the pocket at the same time.

I don't see what's inconsistent there. I, like others in the stadium, was not that impressed by Golson when I watched him live. After seeing the game from another angle, I revised my opinion.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out how you weren't impressed while watching live. You shouldn't need a television to see that Golson was buying himself time and dropping dimes. Even if he was missing open receivers... he was still hitting other, just-as-open receivers.

There may have been a bit of grumbling initially ... I am sure we were all a little disappointed and nervous after starting the game with a couple three-and-outs. But after that it was pretty smooth sailing. Must have been a bunch of Malik fans near wizards.3

I don't know, maybe it's Tommy hangover. I just recall a number of times where that internal clock you have when watching football games starts screaming "get rid of the damn ball!" Maybe I just need to get used to a more improvisational type of football. When I think "quarterback," I think Tom Brady, Tommy Rees, Brady Quinn, and Jimmy Clausen. Intellectually, I know that EG is nothing like any of those guys and I shouldn't expect him to be. It's a head-versus-heart thing. My head knows that EG is a very gifted quarterback but my stomach still lurches when I see him scampering around palming the football for 20 seconds before heaving it 50 yards downfield.

No, I have seen this Golson hate. It is equal parts "I hate the starting ND quarterback," "I hate the ND quarterback because I hate the coach," "I hate the ND quarterback because of ____," I hate the ND quarterback because he isn't like me, (white, privileged, not from South Carolina, etc.," and the "I hate the ND quarterback because I want to see the program fail for a compendium of other reasons, from the fact that I am an asshat elitist, to I am a shriveled up old bag of bones that is going to try to make everyone else as miserable as I am, by saying, 'Isn't like it was in the old days,' implying that everything was magically better then."

I have it on good authority that the True Malik Fans were rooting for Everett to have a great day and get out early!

Edit : Oh yeah and their were also some "I hate the ND quarterback, because by showing my contempt, makes me look smarter, more powerful, or more knowledgeable than I really am." Bog's hates asshats and douche rockets!

I understand that perspective, and hopefully, in time, Golson gets to that point where he doesn't need to scamper so often. He is only in his second year on the field, really, so he's got plenty of growing to do.

It will be nice when Golson is at a point where he can go to the line and change things to get favorable matchups at the level Tommy could, but can then follow that with the proper arm-strength to make the change worthwhile. And if the change doesn't work? THEN he can start scrambling around and making you sweat.

My wife, too. She's a pro at the basics of football (rules and whatnot), but she's a novice when it comes to technique, strategy, and those types of things. She can't stand watching EG because, for whatever reason, he refuses to tuck the football. High and tight, son.

I've grown accustomed to the way Golson holds the football...it's certainly not text book. However, his hands are massive (ET fingers) and he is more mobile when he holds the ball out like that as opposed to tucking it in. I guess we got to take the good with the bad.
