Not everyone is wired like Jimmy Clausen and able to ride into South Bend like Jim McMahon did in Chicago back in the 80's. It takes REAL brass to do it. That's why I like Zaire so much, he knew what ND was all about and he wants the pressure of being the man. He desires it, he expects it. It isn't talk with him.
Nothing would make me happier than 5 years of Malik under center in South Bend.
I remember Brady Quinn being relaly likable and a great leader, but occassionally throwing balls in the dirt on screen plays. A lot of drives stalled simply because he had a lapse.
Clausen was such a contrast. He had a rough start (remember how he would literally run facing the other endzone because he never played behind such a porous line), but by year 2 I remember thinking, "We are not going to see this level of consistent competence for a LONG TIME." He put the ball exactly where it needed to be time and time and time again. I got sick of the fade like everyone else, but he made throws like that look easy (which they are not)! He was not the best QB in the world, but his skill level was excellent.
