Stack or bunch the WRs and run three verts directly at Darby. I don't care where he's lined up, just do it every play. After 20 yd dead sprint Daniels cuts to an out Brown goes deep over the middle and Robinson is left with a jump ball situation .... let them pick their poison and have EG make Darby look foolish

Note I don't care if this isn't logistical or even good strategy. I just want to see it happen

D

bring the pain and mix it up with our DEs or even NTs dropping into coverage to cover the underneath routes. JJ may be 6'6 and hard to miss but he's invisible if you don't expect him to be there lol ;)

On offense, I think you ground and pound -- 3 plays to get a first down all day long -- beat on the defense with our big boys up front. Hold onto the ball and keep Winston off the field. Make them so worried about stopping the run that they let their guard down and go over the top on them. Take advantage of the opportunities we get, but mostly methodically ram the ball down their throats as much as possible.

On defense, throw the kitchen sink at Winston to keep him out of sorts. Put him on the ground and make him think about where the next hit is coming. From what I've heard about Van Gorder's defense, this strategy plays well as far as bringing heat from all over the field. Let our DB's put their skills on display. Take a few chances to get turnovers and hope the ball rolls our way. Winston will make some plays, but if we let him get into a groove, it might be all over early. Make him think ... I'm assuming from hearing him talk that that thinking is not his strong suit. Focus on sealing the edge. Finally, get in his head. Call him a crableg stealing rapist as often as possible.

So, act like Miami players, then? ;)

This is pretty interesting: You can buy a six-game season ticket to Florida State (every game except Florida) for only $300 ($240 plus a $60 donation to the University). Notre Dame season tickets are face value ($515 this year, excluding Shamrock Series) PLUS $1,375 for endzone seats, $1,650 for corner seats, or $2,200 for sideline seats. I can't fathom how a school with 30,000 undergraduates can have walk-up availability for $300 season tickets while a school with 8,000 undergraduates requires a waiting list of people who want the opportunity to spend $2 grand, especially considering that the FSU alumni base is probably much more centrally located to Tallahassee than the Notre Dame base is to South Bend.

This came up in the ASU thread. Buy the ASU home game tickets then resell the non-ND games. Play it right and you can actually turn a profit.

For some reason, Winston doesn't scare me near as much as their D. Does he have the ability to pick us apart the way oddsmakers et al expect?

Freeman and Wilder are gone IIRC.

They are but but they have Mario Pender, Karlos Williams, Ryan Green and Dalvin Cook, which is scary talent at RB. Then add O'Leary, Rashad Greene, for Winston to throw too while being protected by an oline of all seniors.....Their ENTIRE team scares the shit out of me.

Oh no doubt. I just don't see enough in Winston to think he's going to slice us up on his own. I took us with the points on this one though.

I don't think he can do it on his own either but he has a TON of talent around him with great backs, and awesome o-line and solid receivers.

I hope ND comes out has the talent and game plan to handle FSU (esp cause I will be there) but I will honestly be very pleasantly surprised if ND can keep the game within 2 TDs.

That might be the easiest opponent preview ever to write:

"They won the natty last year, have the reigning Heisman winner, and they're gonna be really freaking good again this year. The end."

We can all agree that FSU will be ND's toughest opponent this season, but looking at the 'Noles' schedule, the Irish are arguably their toughest game as well. I can't decide if that helps or hurts the Irish any. Maybe it doesn't make a difference at all.

It could be a pro for ND if the Irish are undefeated but aren't destroying opponents and FSU doesn't give them due credit and let their guard down. It could be a con if the 'Noles prep for and play the Irish like they are their toughest match up all year.
