As bad as Kevin Ware's injury from a couple years ago. I doubt he ever starts another game in the NBA. Good news is that he signed a huge extension for about 90 million dollars so this won't kill him financially.

Not at Louisville...Idk I guess "never starts" was a bit strong but I doubt he ever plays at the same level again.

What the hell happened, did they cut him? I searched him and didn't find anything of recent.

Ware is at Georgia State now, per wiki. He played at a juco the year after Louisville, and rehabbed all last year in hopes of a full recovery apparently.

Yeah I don't see how they make the playoffs after losing their two best players.

Hill
Stuckey
??
West/Scola
Hibbert

No bench

Probably one of the worst rosters in the league. And they don't have a first rounder next year.

Yep. Also a healthy D-Rose and Lebron in Cleveland means they have the 2 best teams in their division too.

From what I heard...it is a clean break of the tibia and fibula...8-9 months, but will probably take the derrick rose approach and miss the entire season

Don't know where he is.

I mean, technically, he's still the guy that broke his leg. He's just at Georgia State now...still that guy.....who broke his leg.

As A Pacer fan this is a major blow. I hope he takes as much time to recover and doesn't try to rush back.

I don't see how this really changes much. I know international soccer is a much bigger and completely different animal than international basketball, but those clubs risk their players too, and have been for years. Injuries are part of the game.

Because the international games in the nba aren't as big of a deal. The FIBA world cup will draw almost no ratings and by the time they finish, the nba teams want to start practicing.

It's dumb to say that players shouldn't compete in international play because of one freak injury. Could just as easily have happened in any pre-season practice or summer league game.

Did you see pro teams saying stars shouldn't compete in World Cup because Neymar got injured?

I agree, but to the owners, GMs, coaches etc, the FIBA World Cup is nothing more than a way for their players to get injured. Even the Olympics can sometimes be frowned upon (see: Luol Deng playing on an injured wrist in 2012). Pop last year limited Tony Parker's minutes during the beginning of the season because he played in the EuroBasket competition (it's later than the World Cup, but coaches do still react to additional playing time).

The FIBA World Cup will last until September 14 (according to wikipedia). That's less than one month before the first preseason NBA game (October 8).

I personally don't see a problem with players wanting to gain additional experience in the offseason with these tournaments, but the Front Office guys are looking at the bottom line. If they think that it's too big of a risk, they have a right to request that their players don't participate. On the flip side, these tournaments do help to develop players (KD and D Rose both ascended to superstar status following the 2010 World Cup). Let's wait for owners and GMs to actually say something, if they ever do.

World cup =\= FIBA

I think they just changed the name recently, so in the 2010 it was actually the FIBA World Championship, so in the immortal words of Manute Bol: my bad. It's still the 2014 World Cup though, from what I've read.

They actually do. Because of the Cleveland Cavaliers' ineptitude in the 1980s (such a historically bad franchise), the NBA instituted a rule where a team cannot trade first rounders in consecutive years. I just checked it too: NBA Future Drafts Detailed - RealGM Hope that makes ya feel a bit better.

It's cool. Yet again, the Cavs ineptitude plays a part in an NBA discussion.
