Did he end up going to the BBQ after all? If so, this isn't all that surprising. That event is ridiculously well executed.

I don't think he went, haven't seen anything reported that he has. I think Steve just reached out to his people and heard Michigan was trending......

Fred Flinstone probably gave him an order to go with a side of his special sauce when he finished his visit.

i looked over michigan blogs/forums and didn't see anything that he ended up attending...not even a possible secret visit or even rumor

Some people implying by virtue of the fact that none of our recruits are recruiting him (whereas they very much are on other targets HARD) and some other factors that the "change" is that he's actually down on our board, whereas he's a top priority for Michigan. Not sure how much I believe this, no reputable sources are saying this.

Hopefully Bilal takes it out to OVs.

I have a hard time thinking this would be the case considering I think he's the best LB we have on the board (realistically). However, is there a chance that the staff might be looking at the current roster starting camp and they think we should use the spots at other positions? Pure speculation here. This is the only thing I can come up with, if this scenario is true. Thoughts?

This is what I would guess, but like you I'm skeptical. It could be true and the result of us moving into good position with other premium prospects... but LB seems like a serious need. I think we definitely need at least one more player.

That is a different angle to look at it. Sometimes you don't know what you got until you get it. I still would have a hard time believing that we would turn away a kid like Bilal, but you never know I guess. Every year around this time I get a little bummed out as recruiting winds down. I think in general the season and whether or not we are successful will answer all of our recruiting blues one way or the other. Really, the best cure for this would be to go out and kick Michigan's ass 6 weeks from Saturday. If that happens I think the positive push will be in our favor.

I wonder if this has to do with us feeling much more confident about Bo Wallace now.

In my opinion he is much more of a pass rusher but I guess they could be on the same board.

I think our commits don't talk to Bilal because that's the way staff has evaluated his personality and view is best

If I were Asmar and somebody asked me what my name is, I'd say... "Ass Man Above All. It's not just a name. It's a way of life."

Kick Michigan's ass from the first play to the last! That will certainly help with a few of these guys who will be there that weekend. The place needs to be electric...nobody over the age of 50 allowed in this game. :)

Can you provide some insight on this? I constantly hear people talk about how great Friday Night Lights and The BBQ are, yet I never hear what makes them so special when compared to what other schools do (ie. ND's Irish Invasion). I don't doubt that they're an amazing recruiting tool. Just curious what those schools are doing that others aren't.

Watch it punk. I'm not just a pretty face. I can stand all game long and yell as loud as the pimply faced kid next to me and I do it all the time. lol

I agree. The staff is in regular communication with him.

Below is from a poster on II.

ND staff just got outworked on this one. This per his HC(Kirshner) and OC(Faires). He's going to Michigan...just a matter of time...doubt there's a switch...not that kind of kid.

Here's TJ's response

"Outworked"? Or outsold?

There's a distinct difference. I'll leave it at that.

If true, add this to the growing list of face palms recently.

So TJ pretty much admitted he's gonna be a skunkbear? That's extremely dissapointing.

Yea and the justification is what gets me. His HC is saying they worked harder and convinced him that he was a need to them but we just feel like we got out sold. That is some smug crap if you ask me. Really not happy with this turn of events, if it plays out.

I hope the staff stays in contact with any um commits they're interested in in case Hoke gets fired.

This all goes in line with what some have said on other boards, Michigan made him feel like more of a priority than we did. I honestly can't believe we are about to lose this kid to Michigan, I agree with the other poster it appears we were outsold and outworked in my opinion.

That's a shame. Really smart kid too... kind of guy you want at ND. Hoke/Mattison are truly ace recruiters.

Seems like our only chance then is that the timeline drags out to OVs.

They are ace recruiters but lets face it based on what is out there, the ND staff got outworked here in making Bilal feel like a priority.

Yup. There is no line in my book between "out sold" and "out worked".

If you feel like you are being outsold, just work harder. Totally agree. I do believe this staff operates with a level of smugness that irritates me in situations like this. Sometimes it works out and others it doesn't but they continue to do it.

man, I agree with this so much.

I don't know rat shit from rice krispies about the daily inner workings of ND recruiting (and for sure some of this is confirmation bias), but it just seems that we often hear how a recruit is ND's to lose, or he's all Irish, then out of nowhere, gone.

I know, win some, lose some, but omg is it annoying to witness.

Hoke's on the hot seat this season, and I expect them to lose at least 3-4 games. Hopefully we'll get a 2nd bite at this apple when he gets canned.

Getting tired of this shit. No reason ND should be getting "outsold" by UM at this point. They literally have nothing to offer that ND doesn't do better ATM. Except maybe playing time? Can anyone in the know compare/contrast depth charts?

100x agree. I feel the staff can be smug about being neg recruited and being above working really hard to sell to certain recruits. For some reason a Mad Men quote came to mind:

No idea if that makes sense to anyone else in this context but it's what comes to my mind.

This is getting old. It seems recruiting is heading down instead of up. I thought the new additions to the staff would provide a boost.

There is no such thing as a perfect recruiter. But I do think this staff doesn't hustle as hard as when they first got to South Bend, but I also think that's by design in many respects.
