From the 2015 Master List Thread

ND is evaluating WR Lawrence Cager per Wiltfong.

Cager is the hot prospect across the country. Tore up camps all spring and summer. Camped at Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee and was offered by all of them. Canping at OSU next and they would be the favorite if offered. ND would be a player if we moved on him.

Just to add Wiltfong calling him borderline elite after his spring and summer. Thats some pretty high praise.

Interesting, I didn't realize he was blowing up on the camp circuit. He was mentioned by ISD a couple times in June.

ISD Intel Link
ISD Intel 6/6/14 said:
“It’s going to come down to really Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma State,” he said. “I’ll just have to choose which one I like the most from there.”

Also an article behind their paywall from the same week:

2015 WR Cager Wants ND Offer

Sounds like the staff has kept up communication with him for a while, and his interest in receiving an offer is genuine. I just don't know how he would possibly fit in the class right now, especially with Boykin onboard and the positive trend with ESB.

There was talk that he was going to try and make it to campus this summer. Anyone know if that happened?

This thread will turn into the conversation of WR or Flex TE

I hope not. If we land Cager, ESB and Boykin, just let them run round and catch balls over people. Let the opposing DCs worry about TE or WR.

I am glad we agree but if we land ESB we don't need another 6'5 WR

This.

Between Boykin and ESB (who I prefer to Cager) we'd be all set on 6'5 receivers.

Add in Guyton and Sanders and this WR is just nasty. Best under BK IMO.

Towson, you say? I'm intrigued.

He has great body control and adjusts very well to the ball in the air. I still prefer ESB but this kid looks really good on tape and the reports are glowing. This is a guy I will keep an eye on.

Yea I think ESB is special. Best case scenario would have been ESB and Ofodile IMO. I'm not trying to sell Boykin short by any means, I just think Ofodile is more polished.

I know a lot of guys were crazy about Newsome, but I think Sanders is unreal in the slot. Just electric lateral quickness.

This WR class is scary if accompanied by ESB.

I agree man.

My ideal 4 WR class would have been

ESB, Boykin, Ofodile and Sanders

I personally don't think you can have enough athletic 6'5" WRs...

Somebody pointed out Sark likes smaller WR's. So maybe that's why ESB is really leaning towards ND. Which is perfectly fine with me

Damore'ea Stringfellow was 6'3..just throwing a counter out

TJ on Cager.

Staff is keeping a close eye on him as a potential "big WR" with some range and playmaking ability.

That list has ESB atop it right now, perhaps with a couple others who might be in, or come into, play this fall.

Cager is an intriguing prospect with interest. For some reason, though, I personally can't get Texas Western/UTEP out of my mind here.

he was a high 4 star...usc wanted him as well and udubb plucked him right out of usc territory

I was commenting more on his preference for shorter receivers. At UW if a 4* kid wants to come you don't say no, preference be damned.

Mizzou had 3 WRs last season of 6'4" or better. That worked out quite well for them. I would be totally okay with 3 big bodied WRs on the field at once provided they can run a good route tree/are semi-athletic.

His tape doesn't do it for me, but camping at Alabama and getting an offer does it for me. Oh yeah!

I disagree. I dont want a 5 WR class with limited spots left. Especially when 3 of them bring virtually the same skill set and build. A WR class of 5 with all the young talent we already have on the roster is a mistake. Its either or IMO and right now its ESB.

Btw, if we were going ideal 5 WR/ATH:

Kirk
Merritt
Ofodile
ESB
Sanders

I dont include the kid from Florida that decommitted from Michigan because there was never a hint of interest.

A couple kids I'd rather have right now, but a few of them are long shots. He should be a take if he likes ND.

No if we land ESB why give a scholarship to another WR? The staff is probably just keeping in contact if the 130 WRs ahead of him don't work out for us.

Because a big target like that is extremely valuable. He can be something serious if developed.
