I think maybe what he's getting at is "market" and "buyer" are not necessarily the same thing. One buyer spending X amount on a single item doesn't necessarily mean the market (constituting multiple buyers here) has valued that single item for the entire market.

Granted, if somebody is willing to pay Chris Bosh the max (or Eric Bledsoe, as is being reported), then we can obviously say his value is that of a max player. But there is such a limited amount of teams and players available, I think it's tough to call that a genuine "market." It is a specialized market.

I'd probably pay Chris Bosh 25k a year (but with high incentives) to come work for me.

As in life, timing is everything. What the market place is willing to fork over today for Player X isn't necessarily a representation of what Player X could get a year from now. It's more about what Player X is worth relative to the other available options.

NBA owners seem much more compelled to offer the max up to best players in that free agent class instead of looking at who they might be able to get for the same money next year or feel they are one piece away from a major run and are willing to sacrifice the long term for the next year or two. This is interesting when compared to the NFL, though the NBA is influenced more by individuals than the NFL.

Channing Frye to the Magic for 32 mil (four years). First Gordon and now Frye for that kind of money? I understand that floor-spreading big men are in demand but this is a lot of money for someone who's always had health concerns. It seems like the Magic are just throwing money at mid-level players to meet minimum salary levels.

Pat Riley just got McRoberts and Granger to commit to the Heat. Wonder if that is enough to convince Lebron and the gang to stay.

I would hope Lebron is smart enough to know the fat needs to be trimmed. A "big 2" with a deeper bench would be better than a "Big 3" with these two marginal players on the side and cannon fodder.

Yeah but look at Wade, he's really declined the past couple years. He took off a quarter of the season to lay an egg in the Finals! So Wade may not even be big enough to help.

I've always loved Wade but if I was Lebron and was choosing who to play with Bosh or Wade it wouldn't even be close. Bosh all day. The reason the Heat laid the egg they did was because Lebron and Bosh are deferring to Wade too much and he has very little left to give. The problem is Miami is Wade's city otherwise he's be hitting the road.

Wade is a strong 6th man at this point in his career. I could see him going to Chicago and playing that role well. As far as Bosh, he was so underutilized in Miami. I love Wade, but a Wade-less Miami would allow Bosh to play more of his game and give then a lot of room to add surrounding pieces.

Is there anyone on earth besides local Miami reporters that doesn't want to see Lebron move back to Cleveland?

Holy shit the popcorn gifs alone would be amazing.

I want Lebron back in Cleveland sooooooooooo bad. I like him but i don't like really anyone that the Heat signed in his time there, add that to the Miami factor and i couldn't make myself root for that team.

I honestly think LBJ to Cleveland would be best for him.

SIAP. Apparently Melo and Kobe were playing a pickup game at UCLA the other day.

IDK how it went down, but I'm guessing it was a game to 100 and Kobe won by 101 and had a quadruple double.

"Three-team trade will see Nets acquire Jarrett Jack and Sergey Karasev from Cleveland. Boston gets Thornton, Zeller and a first"

from Marc Stein's Twitter

I'm embarrassed that I don't know how to embed Tweets. Anyways, this means that the Cavs are very optimistic.

What exactly are the Celtics giving up on this trade? Are they just picking up loose pieces and a first round pick to make this three team trade work?

Nothing but a trade exemption and probably a second round pick. Great trade for them...

A lot of young players for Brad Stevens to work with.

I do like the Hayward to Hornets deal though. Seems like a great fit for their system and what they are trying to do.

You mean have him and his running mate from a terrible Jazz team take up half of their salary cap?

I like Hayward, always have. I'd cry every night for the next 4 years knowing I'm paying him almost $16 million a season though.

I think it's moves like this that help explain why Charlotte is a terrible team. Even in a historically bad run by the Eastern Conference, the Hornets are still only possibly a playoff team, with no hope of advancing anywhere even if they do qualify.

Broussard was just holding his phone checking texts during an ESPN telecast. What a fucking douche. He thinks he's so important.

I swear baseball and basketball both get more press in their respective off seasons than during either season... I am so freakin sick of Lebron talk on every station... can he just pick a freakin team already??

They had a salary exemption for the Pierce trade, so in theory they had like $10 million that they could use before the weekend. Honestly, I have no idea how the NBA salary cap works. It seems extremely confusing and I'm just not into the NBA enough to do any research on it haha. In theory, this was a win-win trade for them though as I believe they are essentially signing these guys for "free" due to the exemption and get a 1st rounder out of it.

Also, Boston Globe reported yesterday that Ainge is trying to just acquire as many assets as possible to trade for Love. That still seems to be the goal in Boston, so another 1st round pick (I think that's 9 over the next 4 years?) definitely does that. Signing Avery Bradley to an extension made no sense with Rondo and Smart and James Young and Green here, so some of Bradley/Smart/Rondo/Young/Green has to get traded one would think.

I'm hoping they can trade Young/Sullinger and 1-2 1st rounders for Love and at least give the team something to work with outside of Rondo.

In theory, they had been talking with Lance Stephenson. Bird and Ainge obviously go way back. Would love if they could sign him outright or maybe do a sign-and-trade with Indy. Trade Bradley and 1st rounder for Lance. Then sign Pierce....

Dreaming of a:

PG: Rondo
SG: Lance
SF: Green
PF: Love
C: Olynyk

Bench: Smart, Pierce

Cleveland fans finally beginning to really believe again that they can get Bron, IF he goes back to Miami, they will all jump off bridges....

This is where I am. I followed LBJ in high school and cheered him on w/ the Cavs. But when he signed w/ the Heat, he and others became instant prima donas that just flat out annoyed me. I hope he ends up back in Cleveland along w/ Miller and Allen as supporters. That team will be a serious threat in the East again, instantly.

CB just put Lebron to Cleveland at 85%. Wow.......Cav fans should throw HIM off a bridge instead of themselves if he resigns with Miami.

Broussard has terrible sources. But he just makes so many predictions that some have to be true.
