Damn! Best of luck to him.

I made major mistakes when I was his age. I was able to overcome it. He is a good kid and I know he will be able to overcome also.

On a side note we have lost 3 kids this offseason I believe. So that leaves us at 81 scholarship players?

That clears up a lot, at least on ND's end. I remember in 12', ISD did a nice article on him and his mom. I am really rooting for this kid to get through this and rid himself of those demons. Nothing about him, from anything reported ever, was in a negative light and I hope this is nothing more than a bump in the road. Terrible incident and circumstances, but where he goes from here will be all the difference.

Best of luck to him. I hope he can call Miami, OH his home one day regardless of his charges.

Edit: I just deleted all of that cause I know someone will take it the wrong way.

Best of luck to him and we all know he's a good guy and all but this is what I don't understand:

If this was an Alabama or Miami FL (Thug U) player everyone would be saying the total opposite. Not one of you can say, after reading the police report, that you wouldn't think different about this.

All in all good luck to him I hope he gets his chance somewhere else. Really hoping he can find a home at Miami OH regardless of his charges.

I was thinking about this earlier today actually. From the reports, what he did was despicable, and no matter where he went to school does he get a pass. I think I feel so bad is like I said above, I followed his recruitment fairly closely and never in a million years would I have thought that He was capable of something like this. I guess it is just the way fans are and it is a part of the banter. I will say that a lot of it has to do with the multitude of incidents that seem to occur at certain schools and certain conferences that leaves a black eye and a distaste from rival fans. You will just never not have bias when it comes to this stuff.

I didn't take that in a negative way at all. I actually think it was a very fair point you made.

How people feel about it is up to them. This was/is really bad IMO. I don't think much about DUIs or pot charges for college kids (once again only how I feel, not my job to tell anyone else how to feel), but this kind of stuff troubles me. I'm not condemning WM, but any violence (or threats of violence) that go beyond your garden variety two drunk dudes mutually fighting is concerning to me.

Speaking of '12's class. Jesus H Jesus, the commits from that class are dropping like flies:

Shepard
Ferguson
Kiel
Neal
Mahone

As of now, only 12 of the 17 players remain. Not to mention the last minute flakes/misses (Ronald Darby, DGB, Anthony Standifer, Yuri Wright). That was just not our year was it (at least recruiting wise.)

Best of luck to the young man. I will say a prayer for him and hope he lands back on his feet. It is always easy for us to judge people and even easier for us to be critical of their actions. Sadly, his actions have came with serious consequences. Hopefully he will use this as a life lesson and a powerful testimony and help others along the way. Best of luck wherever you land Will Mahone. I know there will be several out here cheering you on in your endeavors.

I hear ya brotha. To me, and this is just my opinion, it is a testiment to how good of a coach Kelly is to have this kind of attrition in a single class and still fid a competitive team. I think that along with a few other high profile kids has really changed the game and approach this regime has taken in recruiting moving forward. Sure they will still chase the big fish, but the profile has changed and we are taking a lot more upside kids than before. The potential is there and it feels like things are on the up and up now. Kids like Jhonny Williams, Kolin Hill, Andrew Trumbetti, and Grant Blankenship are gonna be the face of this winning program in the years to come. These kids are potential 5 star kids that get ND. What's not to be excited about?!

Hoping the best for Mahone. Curious how this played out internally - if he was expelled, left of his own accord to deal with all this and whatever led up to it, or some middle ground between the two.

Taken on its face, I may be in the minority but I'm not of the opinion that this is a kick-you-out-of-the-university offense (as others have said, no one was hurt, there was no pattern/history and cops do tend to throw the book when they're the target. This struck me more as a response to some bad drugs or something). At least not before the case is adjudicated. Which leads me to believe either there'd been other episodes, or Mahone left on his own volition, which may or may not be a good thing for him in the long run.

Anyway, a shame. Hope he gets through this OK.

Mahone, 20 of White Beech Lane, pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault and aggravated menacing.

No felonies. He should be good to re-enroll (regardless of football), right?

Wow that is really good news for Will. I sincerely hope that he has done enough to earn a second chance with all of the people and institutions that had taken notice of the man he was trying to become and placed their faith in him. I believe in and have benefitted from second chances in my own life, hopefully he will do the hard work of showing everyone that this was a bad night in a good young man's life; and if a defining moment, a moment when he realized who he does and doesn't want to be. Who his mom raised him to be. Good luck Will.

I just heard that it could have been much worse because Mahone was not the only Irish player out that night in Youngstown. The other player does not drink and actually got away from him when he started acting erratic. All hell broke lose after he left.

Thankfully, the other player doesn't know Carlo's people

What I want to know, is what did Mahone take to make him go crazy? He was a model citizen according to everyone before this incident? This is like the guy who broke into the store with an axe then ate ice cream sandwiches and passed out. Weird.

Edit: I also have a hard time believing that Golden was only drunk. He had the munchies IMO...

I was told it was only alcohol. It was obviously made worse (emotionally) when he got into a fight with his girlfriend and then a physical altercation with her brother.... which spilled over into everyone in arms reach.

The first thing I thought too was it sounded like some form of illegal substance but the father of one of the players who is close with Mahone told me about the incident.

What happened to the good old days when people talked out their problems in private by a simple note or innocent interrogation

Thanks Crusader, good to know. I really hope he gets back to ND to finish his degree. If he can play football great but I hate to see a young man ruin his life on one really bad evening.
