To be fair, Sampson's recruiting updates are always tepid. That's not II's schtick. I'd say the truth lies somewhere in between? What do you think?

Took me a minute to get back here. Yea, I think that is accurate.

How great would it be to fill out the defensive class with Cowart, Brown, Hilliard, Coney and Gallimore?

So he has a special relationship with his coach's son, JoJo, who has Crohns Disease. He'll be going on his officials with him. Here's what he said:

“We are going to the first game at Florida and I know I will take him to the Florida State/Florida game,” Cowart said. “There’s also Stanford/Notre Dame. I know if there is one school that I really want to take him to see its Notre Dame. I was just there and I loved it. I know he would. I would love to take him on an official visit.”

Thanks for the link Koon.

Pretty awesome endorsement, even if we're not a serious player here. Which I'm not entirely sure we're not, But I assume we're not lol

Awesome link. Great job Keuhn.

Here is a kid that has the whole world going for him, whatever he chooses to do. He could be a "me first" kind of guy, but instead he shows truly unconditional love to someone in need, sacrifices all the self adulation and puts someone else in need first.

If Byron were a kid that was a borderline player (talent-wise), I would still want ND to give him a scholarship!

As a person who understands first-hand how much Crohn's disease sucks, I really feel for this kid. Cowart is a stand-up guy whose compassion is inspiring. Sort of reminds me of Greg Bryant, with regard to reaching out to young people. Would absolutely love to have this guy on the ND squad -- like Boggs said, even if he was a 3-star.

terrific story alright, for a kid too with no present father etc to understand what a difference a real role model can make at such an age is really impressive.

Did Cowart really slip this in when talking about Jojo?
He’s the star, not me. Our friendship will never end. I will keep him close to me. I always wanted to start a "Make A Wish Foundation". But I’m doing this because he’s the real MVP. Look at what that kid is fighting each and every day.

I love the story.

But, in terms of getting him to ND, could this actually hurt whatever chances there may be? If this kid has that much impact on his life, would he prefer to stay closer to home?

yeah was thinking the same, sounded like it will be difficult for him to up and leave especially if he's not from a family of means who can afford frequent transportation etc

IDK. Oregon is rumored to be one of his destinations. I can only see him being on tv as a positive thing if he leaves some place far away.

Definitely RKG. ND Accountant is right. Hard to imagine he would want to put that kind of distance between them.

It if ends up here great if not great. He is helping this young man and trying to help his life better. And is making a difference in his like. If everyone did that for just one person how much better off would Society be?

Maybe if he goes to ND and graduates, he can take care of Jojo by getting him to the great University that is ND when he is 18.

Awesome article! I will be rooting for this kid wherever he ends up.

Sampson posted something like him being the most locked in kid he has been around. Everything he does, he does with all his heart. I guess he stayed up till 2 AM during the 5 star challenge watching film on the OL

He said something to rivals at the 5 star challenge that all he wants to do is go to school, go to practice/workout, and go home. This kid is dialed in to be the best.

This kid is a real man, he gets it. Best of luck regardless of school choice.

Don't believe Oregon actually leads he just likes to say that. Oregon has been his "leader" for a while.

Last weekend, Byron Cowart was at Randy Edsall's Big Show in College Park, along with Florida prospects George Campbell WR, Ray Ray McCloud ATH, Ryan Davis WR, and Maryland commit Deltron Sands RB Aquinas. Two other prominent prospects in attendance - Isaiah Prince OLl and Kai Locksley QB. The Big Show must have made quite an impression. Cowart now has Maryland in his top Five.

Who is the quote from? It appears you quote often and don't cite the source, correct?

I went to the ND vs Maryland Shamrock Series game, which was 2/3's ND fans despite being 10 miles away from Maryland's campus and their 35k+ students. If he goes to Maryland I'd blow a fuse.

It's a good sign his mind is open to schools up North.

Shamrock Series games are technically ND home games, so we control most of the ticket sales
