A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts. There is a lot of hate there and it likely has to be grounded in some beliefs or thoughts he holds in. Sadly, he probably doesn't even remember the details of what he did.

I can empathize with some of the anger he displayed. After my dad passed away, before I learned to process how I felt, I used to go to some pretty dark and angry places when I drank. I would hold everything in and then blow up. I would get in fights and do hulk smash kind of stuff. I was perfectly nice and well-liked when sober, but about once a month, I was a total A-Hole. The good news for him is that it can be absolutely temporary, if he commits to making it that way and dealing with whatever is buried. I have a strong feeling that the Courts will serve as a catalyst for this change. It's too bad that he likely effed up a free education at ND prior to this.

You all are basing your opinions on police report hearsay. Unreal.

Not saying that this is getting a lot of media attention but waiting until the World Cup starts is smart. Won't get that many retweets etc. sort of like holding a press conference on a Friday afternoon(Ray Rice)

I thought what he did was absolutely classless and it's not needed anywhere in this world. So you get what you deserve here.

Hopefully he can move on from this and get some serious help. Wish you the best of luck on whatever you decide to do 32

Some serious help? Lol that's a bit much, isn't it? It's not like he bit the cops ear off then proceeded to use it to stimulant himself...

My advice, if you're the type of drunk who gets a little to reckless when intoxicated, you should perhaps not push the boundaries of your limits. Easy as pie.

Gulp! Is that what you guys do up there in Canada, eh?

The great north woods, and frontier justice, and all --

I still haven't heard why he was back in Ohio, weren't the players supposed to report over the weekend? Or was that just freshmen.

Ok, maybe it's a bit much but he did also threaten a police officers life multiple times

TP, IDK why you tweeted out the link to the South Bend Tribune.

If the actual story wasn't as bad as the speculation, I would understand.

But this is a rare case where the story and the quotes are awful, and probably worse than the speculation of 'assaulted an officer'. So personally, I'd prefer the fewest recruits/parents/fans/ND hater as possible see this, with the hopes that it goes relatively unnoticed to the rest of the CFB world with the World Cup being on and Lebron losing a championship.

Before anyone freaks out, I'm not a TP hater at all. But I don't think this should be tweeted by someone with a bazzillion followers considering the severity of the details.

To answer your question.

1. I tweeted it bc there are about 15 stories going on about what happened that involve other players, other situations, that couldnt be farther from the truth. Example: I received a text stating how bad of a situation that Mahone was bc he was in a fight with Matthias Farley at Brothers in South Bend.

2. I refrained from putting a story together because I have no desire to put out material such as this. I ran a story on Kinlaw, and will run stories in that nature. I would not have ran a story on the Tommy/Carlo incident. I want to keep ND Nation/my audience informed, but I am not going to contribute to negative things. If Mahone does get dismissed from the team, I will probably run a story stating facts and why.

3. I chose to tweet Hansons story bc he had facts, quotes, and the info that people wanted. Look at this thread/BadNews thread last night. Everyone was complaining/wanting info on what happened. Hanson told what happened. When the report became public, I said that the situation was worse than the charges. I think you see why. I only said that bc some people were stating that the cops over-reacted/ect.

4. ESPN/Deadspin/larger news sources are going to pick up on the story regardless of who or who doesnt tweet/run the story. In Mahone's case, like many stated he is not Everett Golson, and therefore it will not pick up steam and will be an afterthought.

5. If you think that a story like this has an impact on recruiting then you are over thinking recruiting by a large margin. There are multiple stories like this that go on across the country. Hell, Urban Meyer may have had a player get away with murder while in school. The actions of Mahone are not going to tarnish Notre Dame. Bad press, sure, but if a recruit/recruit family doesnt choose Notre Dame bc of this, then they probably wouldnt have worked out at ND. LSU had the Jeremy Hill situation last year, and they ended up with the #2 class on Rivals.

Easy to pass judgment on someone that acts like that, but I really feel worse for him after reading that story. No way he was in his right mind. Not going to speculate on the cause, but I actually think it would be better if he was under the influence of something serious, because that kind of a break without an acute trigger is definitely scarier and bodes worse for his long-term future.

I pray im wrong but I think rhode has a pretty good point. Looking at this young man's age. And Jimmymac's and others comments that he had previously been a high character guy. It sounds like perhaps a mental health/medical brake and those can lead to horrible "out of the blue situations."

Idk about spice making you go crazy but i do know that molly will make kids act like that.

Um what? MDMA mixed with meth or something, but if you're talking about pure MDMA (what molly is supposed to be) it just makes you love everything. What you're describing is pretty much out of the range of possible reactions to molly.

Almost positive they did, at least for the incoming freshman.

See, that is what I didn't get. Do the classes start a week later for non-freshmen? Or do classes start the same time for everyone? Did the freshmen just need to report a day or two early?

Upperclassman reported June 1. Frosh this weekend minus Luatua. He was home for the weekend.

Sorry to veer off topic, but I can't resist asking, why minus Luatua? Did I miss something with him?
