"The source refused to identify the actress in question, but most have pointed to Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) as a likely candidate,"

The "source" is that same girl (the one who played Rob's wife) I referenced in my original post who said this in an interview off hand. And again, she said this immediately after shooting the 3rd season, where Clarke gets naked. Plus she didn't even shoot a scene with Clarke.

I'm not saying it's wrong, its probably true. But people keep quoting this one story where this one actress (who doesn't even shoot with Clarke) made a comment that one actress wasn't going to get naked anymore. I'm just curious if there has been actual solid confirmation of this. Doesn't look like it.

i don't think directly from her, no. But as you said, based on empirical evidence, it is probably true. Then again, much like politicians, actors change their minds.

Been avoiding reading the books since the show started, but might have to give in and start reading them when this season ends. Just heard too many good reviews. Hate the idea of reading ahead of where the show is though....

Why is reading ahead of the show worse than watching ahead of the books?

So I assume most of you have HBO, but for those of you watching online or have friends you want to get hooked on the show. AT&T U verse has a free trial of HBO all weekend.

Anyone care to explain the last scene to me with Arya? PM would probably be best to avoid spoilers. Thanks

She's setting sail for middle earth where she hooks up with Rocco Baggins (Frodo's second cousin from another marriage he's more of a Took in all honesty). She starts slanging long bottom leaf and shit gets outta control really fast. Spoil alert...she pops ten caps in Sauron's necromancing ass for missing a payment.

It doesn't require spoilers.

Jaqen H'gar (the guy who can change faces and helped Arya escape Harrenhall) is a member of a very powerful guild of assassins known as the Faceless Men. He gave Arya that iron coin and told her that if she ever needed help she could hand it to anyone from Braavos and say the words "valar morghulis." Everyone knows that the Faceless Men are powerful, so the Braavosi ship captain would know to assist anyone with that coin and those words. Arya is sailing for Braavos though even she's not sure what she'll find when she gets there.

The "main" continent where most of the action has taken place is Westeros. Braavos is across the Narrow Sea in Essos. Daenerys is on Essos but she's in Meereen on Slavers' Bay, and Braavos is a Free City that's quite some distance away. It's the place where Stannis got a major loan from the Iron Bank. It has a statue of a huge dude called the Titan of Braavos visible in the opening credits.

For reference, the gray shows Arya's journey from the start of the show until now, while the black is Daenerys.

This site is pretty awesome. It tracks every main character's movements with "spoiler control" so you'll only see as much as you've watched/read.

Can someone tell me where the show is at compared to the books? I want to start reading the books but I don't want to go back and read every single one. Is it on the fourth book now?

Kind of. It's not that clean, and there are certain plot points that you won't understand without reading book 3 at least. Also, books 4 and 5 are generally regarded as (very good, though) the weakest of the five so you'd be robbing yourself of the best ones. I'd read the whole series from the beginning, as you have many months before season five starts. If you really want to start with book 4, acquaint yourself with the first three by visiting Tower of the Hand ~ An Encyclopedia of Ice and Fire. They have a good "spoiler control" feature where you can limit yourself to only seeing content from the first three books.

I agree. There are important events in book 4 that haven't happened yet in the show and important events in book 5 that have. There are also things that seem important in the books that have been left out of the show entirely (one in particular that I'm thinking of), and some of the things the show includes happen somewhat differently, so you would probably be confused as characters refer back to those events.

So I would just read them all. They go really fast. I binge-read all 5 books in a span of about 6 weeks. Although if your reading time is severely limited, wizard's Tower of the Hand suggestion is great. But be on the lookout for small differences between the books and the show. My concern about the Tower of the Hand route is that some of those might be glossed over, which might make reading the books a confusing experience. It would really be best to start from the first book.

A feast for crows took me nearly a year to read. I just couldn't force myself to read it it was so boring. Having made it to the end I would suggest anyone reading it to skip any brienne chapters in particular. They add nothing and are so boring and monotonous.

Ugh, I'm just not much of a reader and being in college still I don't see much time in my near future. I wanted to start from where the show ended because I wanted to see if reading ahead would be worth it and just as enjoyable while watching the show. I wanted to start this summer while I'm down here in MS.

Before I read anything in this thread: are we restricting content in this thread to just the show, and no book stuff?

Try to keep it towards the show only. People like myself like to come here and read what other people think about the show. No spoilers is what most, if not every, people/person goes by here I believe. There's a spoiler thread for all that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

But in all seriousness this is probably the most free time you'll ever have. I worked my way through college and I'm still amazed at how much more free time I had.

Right, no spoilers here. Show only.

Yeah, true, but public service announcement: please don't spend your free time in college reading crappy fantasy novels. Either go out and make memories, or invest in your future. If you must read something that's not for school, read something that might be, like Moby Dick or Ulysses or Das Kapital; you're not likely to do it later. But GRRM? I read the first five on the train on the way to work. I'll read the last two at night after I put my kids to bed. You can do that too.
