I love the kid, but what has he shown so far to be a top ten pick?

I'm pretty sure he was referring to the fact that Mcshay is ALREADY noticing Jaylon, after only his freshman year....coupled with the FACTS that he has freakish talent with an amazing work ethic. Not a guarantee to be a top ten pick sure, but there's definitely potential !!

Not sure if serious? He has shown already he has the potential to be the best LB in the country if he stays for awhile. He was arguably the best freshman I the country last year. If your actually watching the games this kid is special. He can do things that no other LB can do. Cover WR and rush the passer is insane. I thoroughly recommend watching some tape again.

I have watched the games. I haven't seen him pass rush enough. I think he can, but the top ten is not where great linebackers go typically without pass rushing ability, which he wasn't featured doing last year. I have very high expectations for him, but let's not get carried away...yet.

Yeah because we should expect freshman to be AA's. C'mon dude he had a lot of tackles for loss which is what you look for from OLB, not just sacks. Obviously he not here yet but if you don't see the potential to be better than Anthony Bars then I'm not sure what your watching.

Potential is tricky. He has plenty of it, but without much more realization of it, I wouldn't call him a top ten pick yet.

He was only a freshman and he played real well, it is called development. He is freakishly fast for a linebacker and can cover similar to a corner. His upside is unbelievable. The only way he does not get better is if he is injured.

Best freshman I have seen at ND since I have been following closely say 2004, including Teo and Floyd. I think he is from here on out, always going to be the best athlete on the field. I would love to see him pass rush, I bet he would be an absolute nightmare for a big fat tackle to block, just sayin.

I think he'll be able to use his athleticism more under BVG's system. Seeing that we may never again have the D-line of 2012 and 2013 in terms of size and strength, the linebacking corp will have to step up to be more disruptive.

I think he SHOULD be able to rush a little better. Every time I saw him lining up for it last year it was WAAAAY to televised not to pick it up. Hopefully "Stache" will camouflage those blitzes a little better than "Hair".

I hope it's true. He'd be our own version of Myles Jack

We already have some phenomenal athletes at RB so I'm pretty sure it's an April Fool's joke.

Congrats to Jaylon on the 2nd team nod. Hope he proves he should have been 1st team with his play this year.

Yea, he'll be on the first team on the one that means something after the season. Although that one doesn't mean much either...especially since ZMart wasn't on it after last year or the year before even.

haha, I can't stop laughing.... it does look photo shopped... and on that note, the photoshop potential here is pretty extreme.

Look who #1 is, just terrible. Call Smith the best Sophomore LB in the nation.

No need to be butt-hurt. We have two breakout players, one offense and one defense!

Besides, DG was just coming to ND out of loyalty to Tee. He was as loyal a Wingman as there comes. Just not a RKG.

Can't hate on Greenberry's college decision at all. All he cared about was going to NFL ASAP and he'll be able to do that after this year. Easy playing time and a pass-happy offense.

Awesome to have two guys on that list though. Anything less than 2nd team AA and I'll be surprised with Jaylon.

I came across an interesting "old" article from the fall of 2012 when I was trying to scour the internet for something else.

After reading this article and reading back through the posts from early 2012 to right before his commitment, I am left to conclude two things.

1. Urban Meyer is a scumbag who intentionally oversigned his 2012 class and then was left to force out existing scholarship players to get down to the 82 scholarship limit. He basically tried to force Jaylon's brother to transfer (not real smart). Saying you might want to consider transferring to get more playing time is one thing, but to call out a player and say point blank "it's obvious you're not good enough to be here" is another.

2. Because Urban Meyer revealed his scumbaginess to his brother and Jaylon's family, I believe that pOSU was never a real threat from that point on. So in a way we have Urban Meyer to thank (at least partially) that Jaylon is at Notre Dame. If nothing else, he certainly made the decision easier.

Here's the article about Jaylon's brother Rod
Ohio State's Rod Smith making a great turnaround with Urban Meyer (OSU Notebook)

The door was open for Rod Smith to leave the Ohio State football team.

Sitting down with the sophomore running back shortly after the turn of the new year, OSU coach Urban Meyer couldn't have been more blunt.

"The conversation in January is 'You're probably not going to make it. It's probably best you move on and play somewhere you can play, because it's obvious you're not good enough to be here," Meyer said on Monday, recalling the conversation that day.

There wasn't much of a gray area, especially when Meyer admitted he pulled the transfer papers out of his desk and offered to sign them on the spot.

Smith turned down the offer.

If there is one person who is surprised where Smith is today -- No. 2 on the Ohio State depth chart -- it's probably Meyer.

Smith (6-foot-3, 228 pounds) ran for 24 yards on six carries and scored a touchdown last Saturday in a 29-15 win over UAB.

Instead of being a forgotten man on the depth chart -- or playing somewhere else -- Smith is in Ohio State's game plan, even with Jordan Hall healthy and Carlos Hyde expected to return this weekend after a two-game absence for a sprained MCL.

"He's in the plans for several more years," Meyer said. "He's a talented guy."

Meyer credits Smith's family for playing a large role in the player's turnaround. But the signs of life didn't appear until after Smith slogged his way through spring and summer exercises.

"Then something clicked the last few weeks," Meyer said. "He's on a mission now. He's a good guy. I love Rod Smith. I love guys that turn it around."
