'15 CA QB Blake Barnett (Arizona State Transfer)

17-18 year olds can't always get a pass because of their age. Can't commend them for their maturity and intelligence one week and then give them a pass the next.

I agree.

And Blake will have to live with his actions.

I've already expressed what it means to be committed to a place like ND.

I come with the old man posts, all the time.

But I'm not his father.

When all is said and done, I'm a fan who worries more about the guys who wear the Blue and Gold.

Because that's all I am, a fan of Notre Dame, not Blake Barnett.

I purposely kept away from this thread until now.

With over a half-century of real life experience, I have learned a thing or two.

One is life comes down to moments like these. It is not the moments themselves, or others involved. It is what the individual choses to do :

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/NqXNDFtWkuo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

We have everything we need. We will get lots more. We have never needed one of these individuals that couldn't pick, or picked wrong the first time. And as others have pointed out, we have benefitted immensely from those that picked wrong the first time and corrected themselves by picking us the second time.

About some's it up for me. Classic. Should immediately be a post of the year contender

If Barnett commits to Oregon, I hope we play them in th NCG in '16 and that Cole Luke gets a pick 6 to seal the game. Icing on the cake would be seeing Jaylon Smith, playing in his final game at ND and who is a unanimous #1 draft pick, crush Barnett as he is escorting CL to the endzone. #onecandream

Hopefully Saban pisses all over Hopkins dreams and swipes Barnett away from Oregon. It's unlikely but a guy can dream. TTown, send your best bagman with the deepest pockets.

Bishop...

Catch a plane to Denver International. Once there, you will find a white BMW with a guy named Steve driving it. He has an Alabama tattoo on his right forearm. Go to Ft. Collins Savings and Loan and ask for Safety Deposit Box 15. Inside you will find four items. Two manilla envelopes, a personal message from Nick, and a Gus Malzahn business card. Grab the one envelope marked BB 2015 and the Nick message. Leave the other envelope marked Auburn Slush Fund and Gus' business card. Once in California, call me on my throw away cell phone and I will relay instructions for making contact with the subject. If stopped and questioned by authorities, tell them the contents of the envelope is for your sick mother's medical treatment in Mexico. Upon your return, I will call the NCAA Enforcement Committee anonymously and inform them of the remaining envelope and Gus' business card in the safety deposit box. Have a safe trip... and Roll Tide.

edit: mods... please delete. Should have been a PM to Bishop. Thanks.

0% chance, IMO, that the Tide get him. They will get another big, athletic, pro style 4-star QB. But not a 5-star difference maker.

Since Alabama is the one team in the nation that can win basically playing smash mouth football with a little play action, Saban will never let a QB just play. He simply doesn't have the stomach for it.

I agree. He is Oregon bound.

Per Tj responding to a post about accepting other kids decommitting to ND why wouldn't we feel the same about Barnett leaving for Oregon. Great stuff here and obviously makes me wonder how F'ing pissed BK is at this kid.

Regarding the bottom line, perhaps it isn't much different. I get that. Nature of the beast these days, sadly.

But you will appreciate, sjb, that the real difference lies in the how and when of the process, and it's dynamics, rather than the mere bottom line of what, or even why. Recruiting a QB today is VASTLY different than recruiting numbers at any other position, and that's for both the school and the kid/family. When you enter into a joint agreement, explicitly understood by both sides, not to continue recruiting as a QB commitment is made and accepted, there are all sorts of tangible consequences for both sides if that agreement is broken. Especially if broken in the manner and at a critical time such as this one.

There isn't a coach or staff or program in America that wouldn't agree with this concept of the inherent uniqueness of QB recruiting today, given how things work here. Saban was rightly pissed at Town, and BK is right to be pissed at Barnett and family. LBs or others -- it's simply next man in. QBs -- not nearly. And especially problematic, again, in the when (during a quiet period now, right ahead of our crucial camp/visit period) and, even moreso, in the how it went down.

It's time to move on, and we're doing so. But in this case, uniquely, it's a problem and not easy to overcome. Somehow, though, we will.

So why is ND no longer an option for blake? Anybody ever get to the bottom of that?

If it's a quiet period, how was BK able to contact Travis Waller today?

We got royally screwed with the timing of this.

Yeah TJ's comments summed it up pretty well. I'm sure there's a lot we don't know, and I don't want to be overly critical, but this was handled piss poorly by Blake and those around him. Changing your mind is one thing. Doing it right before the camp and after all the trust the staff put in him amplifies the impact to an insane extent. We need to get some momentum back and let karma handle the rest.

Loy said something the other day the resonated with me and I wouldn't be surprised if BK did take one last shot and then say hit the road. Basically the staff (BK) truly believes in their next man in philosophy. They believe in player development and that above all else. Obviously BK is pissed but I also don't think he thinks for a second this is going to change where ND is at regarding the college playoff over the next few years.

I'll always think of the Destination Dallas feature. Grace just broke his leg and BK says into the mic "Bob....Gracies just broke his leg, so he's out.....yeah so, next man in."

2) If I hear one more person talk about how ND is in good shape and that we shouldn't get upset about recruiting I might explode. Leave this site right now if you get upset about other people getting upset about recruiting. You are one of like 4 people on IE that react that way. Stop acting like this loss is not a big deal.

ND is in good shape, you shouldn't get upset about it. And don't tell me to leave this site. I pay to support this site. I'll leave it when I want to, or when I do something that so violates the terms of service that the management puts me out.

The truth is that none of us know how this is going to effect ND yet. Barnett may end up being another Dayne Crist. And Kelly may bag one of the top recruiting classes, next year. If those two things happen, then this really *is* no big deal. If you want to be outraged, fine. I would counsel you to conserve your outrage, though, until we see how this all plays out.

That is what I don't get either. Nothing about our program has changed very much since he decided to commit here and spoke glowing words for the first half of this year.

Is he ticked at going away from grass to fieldturf? Didn't like the stadium renovations that are planned?

I get decommitting for his age due to other recruiting measures, but to do it and completely close the door with nothing major occurring puzzles me. maybe he is failing his foreign laguage class and doesn't want to re-take it? It's always that requirement that kills us right?

Oh well...Spin the wheel....

Don't remember quoting you or anyone but if you want to be held accountable then so be it.

You want to be an optimist all the time, that's your right. It's stale bread though. You purposely ignore the reality of every single situation and get mad when others are frustrated. Keep it to yourself. When 100 people are pissed about something and you are one of like 4 guys that gets mad at everyone else, then that's on you. We aren't "nancys" or whatever you like to call us. It's emotional investment. I follow Notre Dame football with my heart and mind---sometimes the heart takes over.

I'll send you the 12 bucks right now if you think your varsity club status (which I also held for a couple years up until it recently expired) entitles you to ignore reality and call me or whoever else out because we get upset about a BAD THING happening to our program. The way you talk you make it sound like Barnett going elsewhere is a positive. That's just naive.

You want to post something positive to cope with a decommit, that's cool with me. If I want to post a bunch of curse words and get temporarily mad at the world because that's how I cope, then let me do that without calling me some name.

I thought the same thing and asked if ND played hardball and was told no.
