Though I hate to see it. Waller is a good QB who we would be lucky to have this late in the QB cycle. Plus he is teammates with St. Brown.

I totally agree but it does seem like such a consolation prize right now. If we didn't have the best QB (for us) in the country committed for 6 months, I would be very excited for Waller but its going take me sometime to live off this hangover. Waller is a little bit more of a project and I think he knows that. Get him in the system for 2-3 years and he'll be darn good. He reminds me a lot of Malik in that he looks natural being an athlete he just needs to throw the ball a couple thousand more times and then he'll really start to turn heads.

We'd be lucky as hell to land Waller, all things considered. Real pissed that Barnett prevented us from making a run at Brady White.

Thats exactly who I thought of when all this crap went down.

We can still make a run at him. ND at least has a decent pitch that they remained very loyal to their recruit by not going after or talking to other recruits while Barnett was committed. Now that he is gone the gloves are off.

Maybe Rosen or Gibson (or another QB) can give us a second look if Barnett is off the board

I highly doubt but I like your optimism.

-FWIW Gibson has been doing WR drills and some camps. I think he's only a take for a school if they are planning on taking 2 QB's or Auburn who doesn't have to pass the ball.

Is there any mutual interest between Waller and the staff? Or are we just assuming the staff gives him a look?

I haven't seen anything published, but I have to assume the staff is scrambling for some sort of contingency plan here.

That is exactly what we need. The only thing that kinda sucked about having Barnett on board is that he probably wouldn't play until his redshirt sophomore season.

We're set at QB for the next 3-4 years whether we have Barnett or not

Academics shouldn't be an issue considering the Northwestern and Vandy offers.

To answer your question we are just assuming at this point. Profile fit school wise, from Servite. He's arguably the top DT QB still out there and we are arguably the best situation looking for a QB of that nature. OSU and Oregon dragged their feet. Oregon looks to be getting our guy. Bama has came into the picture recently but if we act fast we might be able to get in the game. Northwestern is a bit of a concern since they've been on him awhile but I think we could win that heads up.

Yeah, although him having a strong interest in Northwestern helps us, at least in terms of distance and how far he's willing to go.

ND needs to get 2 QBs to II. If they don't have time to do the film, just don't offer, but get in contact with a couple QBs and bring them in and get a feel.

You would've thought that while he was writing his column 6 hours ago about the decommitment that he could've given the info to Loy so he could've had his list ready.

Pretty sure it's all speculation at this point since we didn't have anything about this kid before today, but landing Waller would take a lot of the sting out of losing Barnett. Looks legit, and Servite is a solid school.

Technically he's rated higher than Barnett.

Not at all saying he's better. Blake's film is the best I've seen.
