that's why i said those who are in the bodybuilding community would "get it"

for reference: Bodybuilding is the use of progressive resistance exercise to control and develop one's musculature

his upper body is huge compared to his size of legs...it is just a joke!! it's like the picture of a hot girl and then saying wouldn't have sex w/ her because she has pointy elbows etc...here is reference to it.. Skipping Leg Day | Know Your Meme

I got your joke! My point was just that everyone's body is different, and there is no reason to assume he's skipping leg day. You were kidding, but I was just making sure the kid got his due!

Remember Jesse Williams? He had an disproportionately enormous upper body--he could reportedly bench nearly 600 lbs, but those "skinny" legs could still squat nearly 700 lbs. Legs don't always look as dramatic as upperbody.

Legs >>>> Arms in about any team sports.

True, but even the belittled biceps have their purpose. You better have them if you are trying to hold on to the football in a pile or wrapping someone up.

Ok I am not huge by any means, but he is doing Military presses on a Smith machine of 205lbs.. I am 5'8" 160 lbs and can do that at 195lbs 10 times.. So he definitely needs to get stronger. Those cable fly's he is doing is like 15, maybe 20lbs, that is not a lot of weight, and the Dumbell press is like 45 or 50 pound dumbells. He is young obviously, but hoping he can be putting 2-3 plates on that bar soon.

that was a 45plate w/ a 25plate...most of the time smith bar isn't 45lbs...so even if it was 185, but regardless you don't know if he had started on the smith, 2nd he could have easily been doing drop sets w/ the rev cable fly's which would easily make sense w/ the weight....but the KEY thing is he was doing this at a fast pace w/out much rest, i heard faintly in the background from either his father or the person videoing it

We may not have seen his full routine. If, for instance, he started with a big compound lift-- like 5 x 5 Squats-- then the weights he was using in the video during those various iso lifts wouldn't be anywhere near his actual max.

That said, I'm very skeptical of Smith machines. They encourage bad form and muscle imbalance, which leads to injury.

Completely agree.. It also has the momentum factor as well where you will see kids bounce it off and catch it rather than doing a slow rep with good form.

Ok, also, couldn't tell if that was a 35lb or 25lb plate, because that one mirrors the 35lb plates at my gym.

Also he is in the weight room which is the right step either way, can't wait till he hits Longo Beach.

Wait a second. You're 5'8", 160, and you military press 195? Are you like 20% shoulder?

I almost never use machines (definitely not when I do military) so I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes exactly, but that sounds absurd.

Everything is about how far under the machine your shoulder is, and how much work you have done before you use it.

Correct. You never know. A lot of guys vary their routines a lot to keep the muscles from acclimating. One day heavy weights, another day light weights, max reps, etc.. Used to do that all the time when I was a stud. lol

Haha I only do prison workout from the nipples up ha.. Kidding... No, I do a full workout including legs, which was part of the earlier thread. Chest max out at 250 5 times. I always laugh at the combine when some of these dudes at the combine who struggle on the 225 like more than 10 times or don't participate..

If you told me you weighed 190 this all would be more believable. 160 is small though. Must be damn near 0% body fat.

It's medicine, Bogs! And while there may be a few minor side-effects, just look at all of its positive effects:

snake-oil-poster1.jpg

Thus the dawn of the Food and Drug Administration.

(I heard the guy ran out of snakes before the supply diminished.)

Revenooers and ATF got involved much later. Just pre-Nascar.

Still like my home made.

Is Blake Barnett going to be there??

If Hoge misses a block and Barnett gets knocked on his ass.

Hoge to Barnett-- sorry man I missed that block, thanks for not returning my calls, enjoy your Nike gear at Oregon.

In all honesty he needs a professional trainer and he will be fine. Not a personal trainer. His legs aren't actually as underdeveloped as it seems. I'd be more concerned with posterior chain development anyway. The workout really needs some help though. I would never put one of the kids I train into a smith machine, let alone behind the neck presses in there. Just a small sampling though, would love to get a look at his complete programming.

Barnett is in Balitmore at the Rivals Challenge. At camp like the NFTC/TheOpening/any summer event...there is never 11-on-11 so QBs have no chance at getting hit.

Keep it classy my man.

I don't know much about personal training, but considering he works out with his dad, and the physique of said paternal trainer, I'd say he's in good hands.

Makes absolutely no sense but that's ok, you stated you don't know much about training. The appearance of the trainer means absolutely nothing when it comes to performance training. I'm a professional strength and conditioning coach so I'll stick to my opinion on the workout. Like PANDA said earlier, this is a bodybuilding centric routine that you could find in a magazine. Long on aesthetics, short on training economy. He's going to be fine when he gets a periodized plan. Kids got great potential.

ND commit Tristen Hoge looks like he's in great shape. He's one of the most likely players here to get an opening invite IMO.

I thought we were getting him banned from speaking to or about our guys:violent:

But for real that is really good to hear about him.
