Lived there for many years. It's a wonderful city and is always very organized for large events. It'll be cold for the visitors, obviously, but it's a great choice.

How did that shithole stadium get to host in '92? Makes me wonder what owners were smoking back then.

I suppose the new stadium is nice and somewhat enticing, but who wants to go to MN in February?? I've heard good stuff about the twin cities over the years, but let's be honest here-- the place isn't really a destination locale...particularly in the middle of winter.

Party at dshans house though!

For the cost of that boondoggle/stadium, I would have expected 5 super bowls. Since the NFL got to meet with the governor and I didn't, they owe the people of Minnesota big time. This is a start.

I remember when Dallas got to host a few years ago, it was reported the deciding factor for Dallas over Indy was the extra seating (read: money) available.

I think the league could literally have the game take place in Tehran and it would sell out and be covered with vigor, but I do wonder what actually goes into the owners thinking for SB placement sometimes.

Next thing----Minneapolis is a great city year round, despite the reputation for being cold. I went down to Miami for the NC in 2012 and that city...not that great. Bring a coat, enjoy the lakes, the waterfalls, Uptown, Downtown, and Northeast. Enjoy the fact that we don't shut down because of weather. Take solace in the fact that we can actually keep flights on time during a blizzard. Appreciate that we aren't subject to hurricanes or earthquakes. We have good public transportation infrastructure for the Midwest (best outside Chicago and eastern corridor, in my opinion). We know how to keep the freaking power on. There are no cockroaches.

Our hockey's better than Canada's. Come see a Gophers game while you're here.

My dad and I went to the Super Bowl in Detroit after the '05 season. It was freezing cold and kind of terrible, pre-game. We spent a fair amount of time huddling in hotel lobbies to warm up because we were too cold to keep walking to the party down the street.

So this is great news for Minnesota ... not great for fans.

I have no idea if the new stadium will nice or enticing. I think the demolition of the sensibly priced Hump Dome is still taking place. I doubt that I'll ever set foot in the debacle/boondoggle/giveaway – I can't afford the cost of an annual seat license and per game ticket. I see "awarding" Minneapolis the Super Bowl as an effort to mollify/silence the local tax payers and attempt to shield the asshole politicians who shoved this bullshit stadium down many throats to line the pockets of Ziggy Wilf while attempting to burnish the image of sports club owners everywhere.

I may well not be here in 2018. If I am, you're welcome to pitch an igloo in my backyard. If you can afford the cost of a ticket and travel you can afford to buy me some quality Cognac.

BTW ... I get more effusive and more abusive the more I drink.

I would like a refund or rebate on my sales and property taxes from Wilf and/or the NFL/ABC/GoDaddy.com/etc.

Minneapolis>>>>>>>>>Detroit. Also, the winter here is technically colder but the humidity is much less, so it doesn't really feel that way. Our winter wonderland is populated by people who don't hibernate---there's a reason for that.

They've had two super bowls right?? Or just the one with Rypien and the Skins? Did Joe win his first in Minn, or was that in the Silver Dome?

Anyway, I have heard a few media types over the years talk about best SB cities and they often mention how good Minneapolis was... I always remember that, so they obviously do something right.

I often hear how awesome Minneapolis is. I think that it'll be fine barring any collapsing roofs.

That roof collapsed in December (and may or may not have been a con-speerasay). I don't think there'll be anything to worry about by SB time.

So much good beer in Northeast now...

-Yeah, that was the Silver Dome for the 49ers.

-That may very well be true about those reports; but those dudes usually base their opinions on the buffets and overall how much free stuff they are given or is comped...so I put zero stock in their opinion. Real people and fans? I give credence to their opinions though.

Dan Patrick has touched on it a few different times, as recent as a few days ago... he states intimacy and how close everything is, is a big aspect for him and he liked Minn. For whatever it's worth.

Outside of both being in the Midwest, the two cities have zero in common.

I was to Minneapolis in February twice on business ('08 & '12). IT WAS COLD!!!! We were fortunate to stay in a hotel that was linked directly to the walkways so we were able to get out to restaurants without much trouble, but there was no way you could walk outside at night for an extended period of time. Also while it is was a very nice city they also have a very aggressive homeless population who are not timid about approaching you.

As far as the economic benefit, it is not that really a great deal and might be a "net" loss for the city. The city is responsible for paying all of security costs (which is significant considering most is overtime) and the NFL insists that tickets and parking fees are exempt from sales tax. I know the argument is that the "economic" benefit out-way the cost but that certainly was not true for NJ this year; and since the NFL is a tax exempt entity it does not pay any income tax either. The "net" cost to NJ was I believe estimated to be close to $100M.

The skyway. It runs through most of downtown Minneapolis. If people don't want to go outside, they don't have to do so very much.

I like that cities outside the sunbelt get a shot at hosting the SB. I think Irsay's arrest hurt Indy this time around and the fact that MN will have a new stadium. As mentioned, it's a reward for placating the whiners.

No way MN can make it warm in the middle of January like Indy did! lol

That's right. Thanks. I new it wasn't walkway but I could not remember the name. It is pretty nice once you get your bearings. Our hotel was very close to the office and in the morning we never had to go outside.
