'13 IL RB Ty Isaac (Michigan Transfer)

It would be hard to take him at RB with 3 years of eligibility left. Folston has 3, Bryant has 4 and probably won't use them all if he balls out. It would be adding another back to a crowded stable. But if the staff thinks it's a good use of a scholly, fine by me.

But by the time he can actually play Folston will have 2 and Bryant with 3 and with no RB in 2014 the depth chart isn't deep.

I would love to have Isaac at ND and my selling point to him would be that we want him to be more than just the traditional RB but more so as playmaker that would be moved all over the field to take advantage his size, speed and skills.

I see Ty Isaac as a college Reggie Bush and/or Percy Harvin type just in a much bigger and maybe more versatile package.

He's up to 6'4 240 so what I'm thinking is a Brandon Jacobs Antonio Gates hybrid type that would get touched as a RB, SE, FL, Slot, TE, H-Back and used as FB as well.

Isaac has great ball skills who's a natural pass catcher with elite hands and I think it's a waste of his talents to try to make him one thing or another. IMO he will flourish when a creative OC decides to utilize his unique skills and use them to be mismatch for the defense.

I would move him all over the place to mismatch on the fly.

My limited knowledge of Bk's version of the spread has no H-back or FB in Kelly's offense. I would be shocked if a 6'4" 240 lb person is fielded in a BK backfield. I want one so bad, but history is showing that there may never be a jumbo back under BK.

Wiltfong is hearing that Isaac was always back and forth on whether he was happy at SC, and the coaching changes also contributed to his decision to transfer. No mention of depth chart playing a part. Situation still developing.

Yeah, we used Daniel Smith as a lead blocker because Rees isn't athletic enough to freeze that last defender. If you have a semi-mobile QB then the defense has to respect the scramble enough to freeze for a split sec, which may be enough time for the play to get by a distant defender without blocking him, but with Rees the defenders could just pin their ears back and fill the holes no matter what. Going forward, hopefully that won't be an issue.

But still, if OU can use a guy like Millard, so can we.

We haven't had a rb that could beat the pulp out of a defense since Bettis....

The elite teams have backfields like this....so did Holtz!

I would give the kid as many carries as he could handle with our schedule we need fresh bodies every damn week!

I don't have much of a feeling about him but I would add this. Kelly has his basic offensive scheme and there are certain skills that fit best into that scheme.

That said, you're not always going to get the right mix of kids every year. While Isaac may be able to play multiple position, I would like to think Kelly has enough creativity that if he saw a tactical, hard to defend advantage with Ty that he would see what he could work out.

I mean with his size and athleticism, you could create some interesting match ups from "ground and pound" to "who's going to cover the big fast guy breaking over the middle? ".

Just seems to me that versatility is a 1% kind of athlete. Just guessing there. Hope it works out, if not, MUCK FICHIGAN!

Running Back is not a cherished position so much in the pros either. He should really think abut his long term best interest.

Side note, I looked up NW and ND's MBA programs yesterday and today. NW's costs between 89,000 and 115,000, and ND's is ~$90,000.
