No way he isn't picked before the conclusion of round 2. Either Pittsburgh or New England will take him given a chance in round 2. Book it.

Todd McShay's mock draft #899 has him going to the Pats in the 1st round. It is going across the ticker at the bottom on ESPN.

Depends whether you came off a successful (most successful) season or not.

If he doesn't have the body for the punishment, come out and get any gravy.

If he could have stayed and been a first half of the first round pick next year and he has an average career, he will never make it up, right?

If he has an All-Pro rookie of the year kind of year, he is good in the first two, but if they lock him in a long term contract at a lower rate, he may never get to make it up. Too many players are post productive years two to four or five, and then are gone.

The trend to leave early will be huge going forward. With the new rookie pay scale everyone is rushing to get to their second contract and get paid before age is a negative.

Someone explain this rushing to their second contract thing? Are we talking rushing to get the next contract AFTER the rookie contract, or the one after their first free agency contract? I guess I don't really see the advantage if its rushing to get to their first free agency contract? Whats the difference between being 24 or 25 for that contract? The 15th pick in 2013 draft got a contract of around 9 million and the 33rd pick got a contract of 5 million. It would seem to me that staying and moving up 15 spots in the draft is almost like getting paid to play that last year in college anyways? You can always purchase a nice loss of value insurance policy to make sure it doesn't go the other way. Plus its no guarantee you're going to get a second contract anyways. Isn't the average NFL career like 4 years? Doesn't make alot of sense to me.

BK told him straight up that he got a 2nd round draft grade on Tuitt from the NFL scouts, proving to be dead on.

Honestly, I think Tuitt documenting his weight loss leading up the combine just looked bad. Can't get in shape for the season (or during the season), but you can do it leading up to the Combine? That's just going to make people think his weight will slip again once he gets his contract.

If Tuitt comes back and puts up 2012 numbers, he's a lock for the Top 10....

Jesus, if Niklas comes back and progresses just a little bit, he's a 1st rounder....

Two arguably more talented players (granted they had injury concerns) going after a guy who stayed in college five years and had much less fanfare prior to the combine and pre-draft should prove nothing is certain and everything should be evaluated individually.

Yes second contract. I understand you disagree, but it is regular conversation on the nfl network from guys like Pat Kirwan, Rich Gannon and Gil Brandt.

Second round is only locked up for 3 years. If they believe they will last and pan out they ideally then can get a 5-7 year deal with a major pay day once they played out the three year deal.

This is why teams want their qb in the first so they got them for 4 with a fifth year option. 20 plus teams excersized that option this year. This is a huge advantage for teams. All in all they could then tag that player two more years and keep them 7 years.

This will also lead to a dramatic drop in redshirts going fwd...

He is about to start a family and make hundreds of thousand dollars. He made the right move god bless Stephon and thank you for the three years.

Stay in school and get your degree. Realize your education and please your Momma with the education. While doing that, get back into shape, dominate 2014 and be a top 15 pick.
Instead, he left and will make "hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Well, that isn't millions and you lack your degree. I sincerely hope that he fufills his potential and hits South Bend in the summer to complete his undergraduate studies.

Good move, but potentially not the best move.
IMHO, of course.

"According to OverTheCap.com, the projected rookie contract for the Steelers' second-round pick is a signing bonus of approximately $1.8 million and a four-year contract worth just over $4.8 million.

To be sure, that's life changing money. But it's not even half of the money that the Steelers will pay first-rounder Ryan Shazier, who will get over $10 million."

"I just have to do a better job of educating our own players on the NFL and what it means to be a first-round draft pick versus a second or a third.*When an agent says, ‘Let’s play for your second contract,’ how ridiculous that is."
-Brian Kelly

"Even the second-round pick or third-round pick, your average signing bonus is $700,000. If you can go from being a third-round pick to a guy that's the 25th pick, you make $7 million. That's 10 times more."

I had children when I was young. So I understand the need and desire for supporting your family. It changes your way of thinking and approach to situations. Everything now affects more than just you, especially ones that will affect the long term. Congrats on the new job and getting your shot in the NFL.

Yeah because he was guaranteed to be a first rounder in 2015...

No one disputes that he's 1st round talent. He slipped to the 2nd round because: (1) he put on a lot of bad weight; (2) took a bunch of plays off in 2013; and (3) decided to come out early anyway. All three of those factors were easily within his power to change, so yeah, I think Tuitt clearly made a mistake in declaring when he did.

Feels weird agreeing with Nick Saban, but $700,000 is nowhere near the life-changing money that $7 million is. Obviously no guarantees, but Tuitt (and his impending kid? what?) probably would have been better off had he stayed, graduated, and likely gone higher next year. Still, he landed in a good spot. Hope he does well.
