Kid is amazing IMO. Long ago my choice for steal of the class, even though he's a 4 star. Rich mans Deion walker.
Right, and Amir. What I'm starting to realize is that even the coaches don't really know who their playmakers are going to be until the season starts and they start to see how things work at game speed.
Outgoing wide receiver T.J. Jones doesn't think Hunter's at 100 percent, but he's seen flashes of potential from the freshman in practice. Billed as an explosive playmaker out of high school in Prosper, Texas, a full-strength Hunter could be "one of the greats to come through here," Jones said.
"You see him make plays, you see him beat one-on-one matchups, you see him make contested catches," Jones added. "He's making plays and showing his ability and showing that next year he's a guy that they need to watch."
As the son of a Major League Baseball player, Irish sophomore wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. has always been around extremely gifted athletes. In case growing up for one of baseball’s most respected and universally liked players wasn’t motivation enough, Hunter spent his summers in clubhouses with dozens of other professional players. Always trying to meet that standard and is part of what made last year’s rehabilitation following a freak leg injury at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl such a difficult process.
“It’s definitely frustrating,” Hunter said. “Coming from high school you’re a star and you play and start. To have a season off and watch everybody else play is frustrating, but it also built up a drive in me to better my game so I can come out and contribute when I do get an opportunity to play.”
That opportunity has come. Hunter and seven other talented but inexperienced players comprised Notre Dame’s receiving corps this spring while the only proven difference-maker, DaVaris Daniels, served an academic exile from the university. When Hunter returned to the practice field last fall, he served as the scout team’s do-it-all receiver. His role was to help the first-team defense prepare for the likes of Arizona State’s Jaelen Strong or USC’s Marqise Lee. He credits the number of reps against standout cornerback KeiVarae Russell as an accelerant in his development.
This spring, he could finally focus on showcasing his talent rather than that of an opposing receiver.
“I came out and had to learn the offense and I had the whole spring and whole fall season to come out running our offense,” he said. “It’s probably the toughest part for me, trying to pick up how the offense works, recognizing different defenses like that. We really worked on press man, but I think it went pretty well.
“Yeah, there were definitely days when I had my ups and my downs.”
Hunter also received his first taste of senior quarterback Everett Golson after the signal caller missed last fall with his own academic suspension. He admits that he and the other receivers need summer workouts to improve their recognition and chemistry, but he likes what he sees from Golson, from whom “the ball comes in pretty hot.”
“You’ve just got to get used to [each other] and get on the same page as an offense: the receivers and quarterback,” he said. “Everybody has to be on the same page.”
2013 represented a rude awakening for Hunter. Not only were football and baseball taken from him after the leg fracture, but on top of that he endured the changes in South Bend, Ind., where he learned quickly that the weather was a far cry from Prosper, Texas. He said he didn’t watch Notre Dame play much while growing up, but did his own research once the program showed heavy interest and offered a scholarship. To learn more than what he already knew — that Notre Dame is a strong academic school — he watched ‘Rudy’ for visuals of campus.
Now, he’s healthy and acquainted to campus and the team’s playbook and hoping to make a name for an already familiar one.
I really can't wait for Hunter, Fuller and Kinlaw to play this year. I think they all could make a big impact this year.
I think our WR and DB corps is solid and deep and if anyone is not getting it we have several kids that should be itching to go.

FYI - he's kicked off of the team.
IMO, the WR pecking on the outside will be:
1) DD 2) CRob 3) Fuller 4) Brown.
I think Brown and Fuller will have very similar production, so it's not necessarily 3/4.
4-6 weeks with a groin injury
Hadn't noticed that posted anywhere. Apologies if reposted
He needs to get healthy and stay healthy or he's going to get lost in the shuffle.
