Let's not get our panties in a bunch. He gave plenty of signals early on that this would be one of those recruitment's that plays like a soap opera.

Sampson is saying that Clark doesn't believe he can be academically successful at ND.

Damn't. Davaris and Everett are just being used as ammunition at this point. Nice work Urban.

well if the kid isn't doing that hot at a private high school i don't think anyone needed to put a bug in his ear. (not saying it didn't happen)

I actually have to give him a lot of credit for saying that. So many times we see kids "drop ND" from consideration but never say why, even if it's widely known. At least this guy is admitting he's either too dumb or lazy.

Well he hasn't actually been quoted as saying this. Its more of the feeling around his recruitment and whispers at this point. At least to my knowledge I haven't seen Chris say this.

It might be more of, "I want to go to the NFL and I feel I need a place that is more football and less school. I feel that I need to spend as much time as possible working out and learning the play book and less time taking Math and studying." So he needs to go to UNC where they take vapor classes. That's probably why he committed there in the first place. So, he might not be dumb or lazy, just making priorities and being realistic.

This is how I feel and I don't blame him. I want him at ND, but if it's not for him it's not for him.

Rivals250 tight end Chris Clark visited Michigan and Ohio State last weekend and called the two his leaders afterwards. Although the Avon (Conn.) Avon Old Farms star claims it is incorrect, most people believe Notre Dame is the team to beat for Clark because of all the family connections he has there. Clark, a former North Carolina commit, called this past weekend's visits the best he's been on, but he needs his mother to visit Michigan and Ohio State to give her stamp of approval. Clark's mother is a big Notre Dame supporter and it will be tough for Brady Hoke or Urban Meyer to convince her to allow her son to go to either school. At this point, it looks like Clark will end up at Notre Dame.

I like and definitely respect this.

I see. That changes my opinion then.

Doubt it. Who's update is that? Farrell?

From everything that has filtered through on ISD and elsewhere, it's pretty clear that he doesn't have good academic standing and both parties are just kind of being honest with each other. If he wants to go to UNC and take fake classes or Michigan and get a worthless general studies degree then so be it.

Well said. I think that update is from Friedman at Rivals, it's not from II. Sampson posted the other day that he doesn't have an interest in getting an ND education. Very little shot here.

Me too.

My prediction is he is going to go to Michigan and love it, and then OSU and love it. He'll feel pressured to 'keep his word' and commit in April.

He should enjoy the process and not commit until after his senior season IMO. But it's his life of course, and I wish him luck whatever he chooses.

I wrote that in March. He committed to North Carolina shortly thereafter in April, before his visits, but it was obvious he was going to be into every visit he took and have them as his leaders. For such a seemingly unpredictable recruitment, it's actually been very predictable.

The sad thing is, when he doesn't choose ND (or doesn't qualify), people will say he we 'lost' him, when in reality, prettyuch every ND insider thinks he's a long shot.

Every hack that covers ND football for a newspaper does this. If ND offers someone, he's "a target." Never mind that there's a hierarchy amongst offered players at each position - sometimes ND gets the one the coaches want more, sometimes they get choice #2. Then, if an offered player signs elsewhere, ND "missed," regardless of his position in that hierarchy. It's dumbed down so people who don't follow recruiting that closely can kind of understand. Also, if it bleeds, it leads. ND signing a 3-star recruit with good potential and who can at least provide decent position depth is a lot less sexy than signing or missing on the high 4 or 5 star kid. It's all stupid.

ETA: And I doubt that's unique to ND, either.

Because we all know how important the Sparty offer is:

Phew, I'm glad we got that question answered.
